BIOGRAPHY:
Matej Trapecar graduated in occupational safety at the University of Ljubljana in 1995. In 1996, he was employed on a regular basis by the Criminal Service Administration of the Ljubljana Police Administration, Criminalistic Technique Department – dactyloscopy group. He carried out laboratory research and comparisons of fingerprints as well as field criminalistic and technical inspections of criminal offence locations.
In the academic year 2000/2001 he entered post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Maribor, programme »Traffic«, where he dealt with biometry and implementation of its methods in traffic systems. In 2002, he submitted his M.Sc. thesis titled »Traffic Accidents – the Applicability of Modern Biometric Methods in Police Procedures of Participants' Identification« to the Senate of the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Traffic at the University of Ljubljana.
He also successfully completed his D.Sc. in 2010. In doctoral thesis he studied usefullness of the biometric data for identity check of persons in traffic accident analysis and improvement of traffic safety, especially about fingerprints, human skin and biometric identification. In 2012, he became an Assistant Professor at the University of Maribor.
Since 2001 he has been employed at the National Forensic Laboratory, Dactyloscopy Department. He deals with forensic and criminalistic/technical research of fingerprints. He gives professional and expert opinions in the area of dactyloscopy for the needs of the Police and courts. He participates in the preparation of manuals in the area of dactyloscopy for criminalistic technicians and police officers and is also a lecturer in training of criminalistic technicians of Police Administrations.
