Management of Needle Breakage Following Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block: Case Report

A needle breakage is a rare complication of an inferior alveolar nerve block, but it should represent an awkward experience both for the patient and the dentist. A broken needle in the pterygo mandibular region would be hard to remove and it may also have important medico-legal considerations. This is the case report of a 32-years old man, referred by his own dentist to the Maxillo-Facial department, after the needle broke during the routine administration of an inferior alveolar nerve block for a dental procedure. In this paper, authors present the successful removal of the fractured needle from the right pterygomandibular region under general anesthesia administration.

Clinical and Paraclinical Profile of Patients in First Nephrology Consultation at the Aristide Le Dantec University Hospital Center (ALD-UHC) About 542 Cases

Late recourse to nephrology consultation remains a topical issue which concerns both developed and developing countries such that a majority of the patients are seen to be at an advanced stage of chronic kidney diseases. The aim of this study is to assess the clinical and paraclinical profile of patients referred for primary nephrological consultation.

Successful Treatment of Acquired Amegakaryocytic Thrombocytopenia (AAT) with Cyclosporine and Eltrombopag: A Case Report

Acquired amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia is an unusual hematological disorder characterized by severe thrombocytopenia in association with a marked decrease, or the absence, of megakaryocytes in bone marrow. Its pathogenesis is not well understood and its clinical course is variable. Several treatments have been used, producing different responses. We present a case that was successfully treated with a calcineurin inhibitor combined with a thrombopoiesis-stimulating agent.

Is Metal Leakage from Aluminum Foil without Adverse Effects? A Study on Ants as Models

Aluminum is a metal largely present in many products used by humans (in vaccines, cosmetics, baby milk and packages for food among others). Such a presence is nowadays debated. Using ants as models, we showed that the presence of aluminum foil in their sugar water has effectively several adverse effects. It increased the ants’ general activity, sugar water consumption, sinuosity of locomotion, and decreased their meat consumption, audacity, tactile perception, cognition, ability in escaping from an enclosure, and their ability in acquiring conditioning, affecting thus their short and middle term memory.

Comparison of Weight Gain, Milk Production, and Milk Composition of Iranian Mamasani Goat and its Cross with Saanen

Crossbreeding can be a breeding strategy to facilitate genetic improvement in native goat production. For this purpose, the performance of weight gain, milk production and milk composition of native Mamasani goat with Mamasani goat × Saanen (F1) as crossed goat breed during 2012 to 2014 years were compared. According to the results, effect of genetic groups on birth weight (BW) was not significant but Weaning weight (WW) was significant (P <0.05). The average birth weight and weaning weight for native Mamasani and crossed F1 goats were 2.85 ± 0.23; 2.98 ± 0.19 and 9.52 ± 0.28; 11.61 ± 0.28 respectivel

Derivation of Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS)-like Cells from Microminipig Somatic Cells by Sendai Viral Transduction of 4 HumanG, OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC

Research on the stem cell biology of the minipig is rapidly developing. Although research on mouse and human stem cells currently predominates over that in other species, data from these species have provided a good foundation for current and future porcine stem cell research. In addition, the increasing popularity of alternate-species models in the study of human diseases and disease mechanisms has spurred porcine stem cell research. As a source of pluripotent embryonic stem cells, the pig presents several challenges as compared with mice and humans.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia Mimicking as Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia

Down syndrome or constitutional trisomy 21 was linked to leukemia for the first time in a case report published in 1930 since then, down syndrome has been recognized as one of the most important leukemia – predisposing syndromes and patients with down syndrome and leukemia have unique clinical features and significant differences in treatment response toxicity profiles compared to patients without down syndrome.

Semiological Profile of Documented Apical Periodontitis: Case of the Clinic of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics (ODE) of the Department of Dentistry of Dakar

The prevalence of teeth carriers of periodontitis apical is universally high. Only the decontamination of the root canal system through cleaning, it’s shaping and its waterproof filling can ensure the eradication of infection at the level of the peri apex. The purpose of this prospective study was to establish the semiological profile of different types of periodontitis apical. The different characteristics used are subjective signs reported by the patient about the pain but also the clinical and radiographic features of each tooth with apical periodontitis.
