Case Series of 141 Melanomas Diagnosed and Managed over 5 years by an Australian Dermatologist: with a Suggested Approach to Suspected Pigmented Lesions
Melanoma is one of the most fatal disorders dermatologists have to diagnose and treat. Despite its prevalence and seriousness, there has been no protocol with consensus suggesting systematic approach for diagnosis and treatment of pigmented lesions. A series of 141 melanomas diagnosed and managed over five years in an Australian dermatology clinicare presented. Also a systematic approach has been suggested for the management of suspicious pigmented lesions and melanomas. It is hoped that this paper provides a platform to open discussion for the development of the best systematic approach.
Non-Operative Management of Acute Appendicitis – Evidence versus Practice in Eastern Health, Victoria, Australia
There has been an increasing body of literature on conservative management of acute appendicitis recently. The aim of this study was to evaluate the current practice of non-operative management of acute appendicitis in Eastern Health, a Melbourne metropolitan health network.
Parental Midlife Body Shape Influences Offspring Self-Perception of Weight in a Cohort of Australian Adults
Self-perception and measures of body weight and central adiposity are key indicators of a population’s attitude and level of concern regarding obesity. Parental weight has been shown to be a strong determinant of adult offspring weight. This study initially investigates the association between self-perception, and measured body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC), and characterised this association by perception type (pessimist, optimist and realist).
A Laparoscopic Assisted Minilaparotomy Hysterectomy approach for Very Large Fibroid Uteri of more than 1000 grams – A Preliminary Study
Minilaparotomy has been used for tubal sterilization for decades. It became a new surgical idea described by some who performed minilaparotomy hysterectomy and achieved outcomes that were less invasive than those of traditional open laparotomy. Pelosi and Pelosi 2004 reported a minilaparotomy procedure in patients in whom vaginal hysterectomy was considered contraindicated. Their procedure offered a safe alternative with minimal access and good outcome.
Benefits and Constraints of Vitrification Technologies for Cryopreservation of Bovine In Vitro Fertilized Embryos
Cryopreservation is the use of ultra-low temperatures to preserve whole living cells and tissues in order to retain their structural
integrity and maintain their physiological viability. It enables long term storage of cells in order to circumvent the need for continuous in vitro culture. When cryopreserving bovine embryos there are two means of cryopreservation: slow programmable freezing and vitrification. While controlled-rate and slow freezing can be applied widely to in vivo derived-embryos, this methodology remains less successful for embryos produced in vitro.
