Bismuth Mass Fraction Determination in Thin Films by an ICP-AES Validated Method and Uncertainty Estimation
This paper covers the validation and measurement uncertainty evaluation of an ICP-AES method for bismuth mass fraction determination in bismuth sulfide thin films. Plasma view at radial mode and the wavelength were monitored for bismuth at 223.061 nm. Following AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) Norm NFT 90-210 (2009), a regression equation was calculated using single element bismuth standard solution prepared in the same matrix as samples. The linear range was between 0.2 and 2.0 mg L−1. Limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were calculated as 0.03 and 0.12 mg L−1, respectively. Recovery percentages were ranging between 91 and 109 %. Accuracy was found to be adequate. Estimated expanded uncertainty according to both GUM and EURACHEM guides was 3.1 %.
Isolated Temporal Bone’s Paget Disease: A Case Report
Paget’s bone disease (PBD) is a benign tumor of osteoclasts. We report a case of an isolated temporal bone’s Paget disease with unusual evolution to a rapidly functional degradation of vestibulocochlear system. A 60 years old female was
admitted for an isolated, left sided mastoid tumefaction without any inflammatory signs. Initial temporal bone computed tomography (CT) showed a left cotton wool appearance without any ossicles lesion or vestibulocochlear extension.
Anatomo pathological tests confirmed the diagnosis. The outcome was marked by the occurrence of vestibulocochlear
symptoms. Treatment had consisted on subtotal surgery in combination with oral bisphosphonate with improvement of
her clinical conditions. The post operative’s follow-up was simple without any abnormalities. PBD of temporal bone is a
benign disorder. Imaging is considered the most useful diagnosis modality for revealing the disorder that will be confirmed by histological tests. The treatment is based on medical approaches and surgery has few indications.
Modeling of InGaAsBi/InGaAs/InP Multi-Quantum Wells Short-Wave Infrared Detectors
We report the theoretical investigation of type-I InGaAsBi/InGaAs superlattice short-wave infrared detector nearly lattice matched to InP substrate such as the quaternary InGaAsBi/InGaAs layer is the absorption region. The used bismuth composition is about 5.5%, the Bi incorporation induced a cut-off wavelength red-shift from 1.6 µm to 3µm at room temperature (RT), and showing a band gap reduction about 362meV.
Artisanal Cannabis in Young and Adults Patients with Treatment Resistant Epilepsy: Prospective, Observational, Open-Label Study in Argentina
Background: A third of patients with epilepsy have a drug-resistant form. We aimed to observed whether addition of artisanal cannabis to existing anti-epileptic treatment would be safe, and efficacious in young and adults with drug-resistant epilepsy.
Methods: Patients (aged 12-51 years) with severe, intractable epilepsy, who were receiving stable doses of antiepileptic drugs before study entry, were enrolled in an expanded-access programme at our epilepsy centre.
Drugs of Abuse and Addiction - Overview and Current Status
Today, both nonprescription and prescription drugs used by people for disease treatment, illicit or reward purposes have diverse effects on health permanently or long-lastingly. The effects may even continue and lead to the death or disabilities in child when a person is no longer use the substance. Substances that cause addiction trigger intense feeling of euphoria then lead to loss of control of self-behavior and perception.
Gross and Histopathological Alterations in Experimental Trypanosoma Evansi Infection in Donkeys and the Effect of Isometamidium Chloride Treatment
Trypanosoma evansi (T. evansi) infection causes wasting and fatal animal trypanosomosis. This study was aimed at determining the gross and histopathological alterations in donkeys experimentally infected with T. evansi and the effect of isometamidium chloride treatment. Apparently healthy donkeys (N=18) of mixed sexes were randomly assigned to 3 groups; A1 (Infected-untreated), A2 (Infected, isometamidium-treated) and B (Uninfected, control) of six animals each. Each animal in infected groups had about 2.0x106 T. evansi injected through the jugular vein. Parasitaemia levels were evaluated using HCT and Mice Inoculation Test (support test). Gross and histopathological examinations were also conducted post-infection and post-treatment.
Cannabis abuse and self-mutilation
Self-mutilating patient is an unusual psychiatric patient in the emergency department. An underlying cause for this psychiatric condition should be known for rehabilitation after saving the life of the patient. Drug abuse is very common and important cause should be searched for in these cases.
Isoproterenol Increases BIS and Arousal during Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation
Isoproterenol is frequently used to test therapeutic effectiveness post- catheter ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation. Preliminary data suggests that administration of isoproterenol increases the Bispectral index (BIS), implicating the CNS stimulatory effects of isoproterenol.
Liquid Biopsy in Advanced Gastric Malignancy and Molecular Targeted Therapy; a Case Report and Update Pertaining Anti HER2-Neu Therapy
Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is responsible for the pathogenesis and poor outcomes of several types of cancers, including advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer. Molecular-targeted drugs on the other hand, such as trastuzumab, prolong overall survival and progression-free survival in HER2-positive gastric cancer. The purpose of the case report is to evaluate the impact of delivering trastuzumab in advanced gastric cancer with concomitant HER2 mutation and amplification.
Prone Airway Management in Patients with Pressure Ulcers
Pressure ulcers are a critical but manageable complication commonly seen in bed-bound patients. Utilizing the Wound Bed Preparation (WBP) model, it is often necessary to perform surgical debridement in prone position for patients with stage III or IV sacral pressure ulcers to avoid infection and further complications.
Living a Dual Life: Multiplicity of Sexual Risks among Men who have Sex with Men ‘and’ Women in Bhutan
Among bisexual MSM also called “men-on-the-down-low”, sexuality driven risks stimulate spectrum of vulnerabilities for both genders.
Acrometastasis from a Pancreatic Primary Adenocarcinoma: A First Report in the Literature
A seventy five year male presented with acute onset right foot pain and swelling. Plain imaging revealed a lytic area in the medial and middle cuneiform bones of the right foot. Background history of resected pancreatic cancer and current presentation were consistent early diffuse disease recurrence of a pancreatic primary tumour. The presenting feature in this case was of symptomatic acrometastases, that is, metastases to the feet.
Esophageal Cancer and Bisphosphonates
At the beginning of 2009, Dianne Wysowski of the US Food and Drug Administration summarized 23 reports of esophageal1 cancer following alendronate use. Wysowski also noted that there had been 31 cases following alendronate use in Europe and Japan and ten cases in which other bisphosphonates had been reported as concomitant or suspect treatment.
Flexural Strength of Provisional Crown and Fixed Partial Denture Resins both with and without Reinforced Fiber
Fabrication of provisional restorations is an important procedure in fixed prosthodontics. Provisional restorations must satisfy the requirements of pulpal protection, positional stability, occlusal function, ability to be cleansed; margin accuracy, wear resistance, strength, and esthetics.
NMR Assignment of N-(1-adamantyl)-1-pentyl-1H-indazole-3-carboxamide Seized as Herbal Incense for the First Time in Italy
The synthetic cannabinoid, N-(1-adamantyl)-1-pentyl-1H-indazole-3-carboxamide, known also as AKB48 and/or APINACA, has been detected for the first time in herbal incense seized in Italy. Its structural characterization has been performed through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis. In order to favor an easier and faster identification of AKB48 in future investigations, NMR assignments in deuterated methanol and chloroform is also reported.
