Examine Vaping Behavior, Perception and Experience of E-cigarette Smokers in Bangladesh: A Cross Sectional Study During Covid 19
In the past few years, E-cigarettes (or vaping) are getting the popularity among the youth in Bangladesh. This is critical as it
may lead to an increase in the number of smokers in future. The study aimed to identify the trend of E-cigarette smoking,
habitual pattern of E-cigarette smokers, and their perception and experiences of health hazards. A cross-sectional mixed
methods study was conducted from April to November 2020 in Dhaka and Chittagong cities. A total of 370 E-cigarette
smoker aged 18 and above years, were surveyed face-to-face using a semi-structured questionnaire
7,8-Dihydroxyflavone Affects Cellular Behavior of PC12 Cells
The BDNF/TrkB signaling is a robust regulatory feature of neuronal cells that promotes survival, differentiation, and proliferation in a variety of cell types and animal models for neurodegenerative diseases. The activation of TrkB by BDNF in clinical trials is accompanied by remarkable side effects and appears to be challenging due to BDNF's adverse molecular profile
Being in the Grip of Bulimia: New Evidence on how Bulimia Relates to Addictive Behavior
Using longitudinal data that tracks bulimic behavior among young girls (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study), we examine (1) whether the persistence in bulimia nervosa (BN) can be attributed to slow learning about the deleterious health effects of BN or if it reflects tolerance formed from an addiction; and 2) whether bulimic behavior is consistent with addiction criteria as stated in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV. To address the endogeneity of past behavior, we use instrumental variables, and show that past BN positively and significantly impacts current BN after controlling for individual heterogeneity. When accounting for BN ”stock,” the parameter estimates of past behavior are not negative, which casts doubt on the importance of learning. Making the case for treating BN as an addiction has important policy implications. First, it suggests that the timing of educational policy and treatment is crucial: preventive educational programs aimed at instructing girls about the deleterious health effects of BN, as well as treatment interventions, will be most effective if provided in the early stages. Second, it would put those exhibiting BN on more equal footing (from a treatment reimbursement perspective) with individuals with drug or alcohol addictions.
Improving Existing Waste Management Practices: Comparing the Effectiveness of Recycling Systems Between a Private International School and a Public School
Despite Taiwan’s title as one of the most efficient recycling systems, individual recycling habits contribute to these efficient recycling systems. Despite Taiwan’s successful strategy of demolishing waste through incineration, improper recycling at a grassroots level, such as students’ municipal solid waste recycling habits, result in recycling contamination, and improper
waste recycling could lead to the release of toxic fumes into the atmosphere. This study compares the recycling practices and recycle bin setups of a public school and a private international school to determine important factors that could contribute to decreasing waste recycled improperly. The results show that immediate feedback if a student recycled improperly
as well as clear recycling signs were essential factors to decrease recycling mistakes.
Evaluation of a Theory-Based Behavior Change Intervention to Increase HIV Self-Testing Uptake and Linkage to HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment Among Hard-to-Reach Populations in Northern Tanzania
Introduction: Tanzania aims for 95% of persons living with HIV (PLHIV) to know their serostatus by 2023.
Methods: An uncontrolled before-after study design was conducted between March 2018 (pre-intervention phase) and July 2018 (post-intervention phase). A total of 183 participants (males=89; females=94) were recruited for this study. Data were collected at baseline and at the one-month and three-month follow-ups using a pre-and post-test semi-structured questionnaire. Descriptive data are presented using measures of central tendency and their respective measures of dispersion. No comparative statistical analysis was performed.
Solitary Adrenal Metastasis: A Case Report of Aberrant Behavior of Prostate Cancer
A Caucasian male with prostate cancer under androgen deprivation therapy after radiotherapy for
a locally advanced lesion. Positron emission tomography/Computed Tomography revealed an adrenal lesion. The mass
was removed, and histopathological examination showed adenocarcinoma of prostatic origin. Prostate-specific antigen
decreased dramatically after adrenalectomy
Numerical Analysis on the Electromechanical Behaviors and Piezotronic Effects Controlled by the Applied of Initial Stress
Based on the linear three-dimensional elastic theory, shear horizontal (SH) wave propagation along the normal direction to the piezoelectric semiconductor plate (PSC) was obtained in the presence of initial horizontal and vertical stresses. The purpose behind obtaining the numerical solutions was to evaluate the effect of stress on dimensionless frequency and phase velocity.
Exploring the Behavioral Drivers of Antibiotic Prescription in Food Animal’s Practitioners
Irrational use of antimicrobials in food animals is reported as a primary cause of antibiotic resistance (AMR) at the animal human interface with detrimental public health implications. Veterinarians are the main player for antimicrobial usage in food producing animals (FPAs). Therefore, this study was aimed to explore the key determinants of antibiotic prescription behavior among FPAs practitioners and its public health implications. For the purpose, a pre-tested questionnaire was presented to FPAs veterinarians.
Case Report: Severe Sequelae of Sleep Disorders
We report 2 cases of severe injuries in patients with sleep disorders. The first patient sustained multiple orthopedic traumas as sequelae of REM sleep behavior disorders (RBD). The second patient sustained a severe TBI as a result of restless
legs syndrome (RLS). To our knowledge, there are only 2 reported cases of severe orthopedic traumas (cervical spine
fractures) as a result of RBD and no reported cases of severe TBI from RLS.
ABHD6 Inhibition Rescues a Sex-Dependent Deficit in Motor Coordination in The HdhQ200/200 Mouse Model of Huntington’s Disease
Huntington’s Disease is associated with motor behavior deficits that are lessened by few therapeutic options. This preliminary study tested if pharmacological inhibition of α/β-hydrolase domain containing 6 (ABHD6), a multifunctional enzyme expressed in the striatum, rescues behavioral deficits in HdhQ200/200 mice.
Construct Validity and Reliability of a Knowledge, Attitude, Perception, and Behaviors on Dietary Practices Questionnaire for School-Age Children in Panama
The study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of a Spanish questionnaire to assess nutrition-related knowledge,
attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors (KAPB) for use among school-aged children aged (6 - 10 years) in Panama.
Establishing a Special Open Field Test Appliance for Tree Shrews Evaluates their Stressed Locomotor Behavior
It has a great significance to establish a high repetitive and special system to evaluate locomotion for tree shrew animal models,
especially neuropsychiatric models. Thus, we designed a special open field test appliance for tree shrews by using a polymer PMMA
board (plexiglass). The locomotion of naïve tree shrews was detected twice in it. By using Any-maze Software tracing the motion
trajectory, we found that the motion trajectory and the distance were very similar in both tests. It demonstrated that the appliance
designed for tree shrews had extremely high reliability and stability.
Obesity as Behavioral Risk Factors of Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases in Young Gabonese Population
Obesity increases of prevalence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in young active populations worldwide. We sought to investigate
the status of young men (n=200) and women (n=200) aged from 18 to 39 years old, living at Libreville, by examining their lifestyles and
eating habits, and measuring their anthropometric parameters, including, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), percentages of total
muscles, lean mass, body and visceral fats, as well as metabolic age and metabolism at rest.
Behavior and Genetics: Confounding Effects on Adolescent BMI
Despite persistently high rates of obesity among American children and adults, the complex interplay between behavior, genetics and weight outcomes is not well understood.
Comparison of Serum and Hair Testosterone Concentrations in Free-Roaming Stallions
In many species, male social rank has been found to correlate with testosterone concentration ([TEST]), with more dominant males
having higher circulating [TEST].
