Assessment of Bacteriological Quality of Raw Bulk Milk of Camel, Cow and Goat from Local Markets in Yabello District, Borana Zone, Oromia Regional State
The study was conducted from September 2020 to June 2021 to assess the bacteriological quality of raw bulk milk from urban and rural local market sites in Borana pastoral area of Oromia Regional State, Southern Ethiopia. A total of 78 milk samples were collected and analyzed for bacterial load using standard plate count and coliform count techniques and isolation of pathogenic bacteria was conducted. The total mean aerobic bacterial counts of raw bulk milk samples of camel, cow and goat were 8.51 log cfu/ml, 8.73 log cfu/ml and 8.54 log cfu/ml respectively. Regarding the location of milk market sites, the mean total aerobic bacterial count was 8.72 log cfu/ml and 8.49 log cfu/ml in urban and rural milk market sites respectively. The total mean coliform counts of raw bulk milk samples of camel, cow and goat were 6.51log cfu/ml, 6.55 log cfu/ml and 6.47 log cfu/ml respectively. Regarding the location of milk market sites the total mean coliform counts was 6.63 log cfu/ml and 6.40log cfu/ml from urban and rural milk market sites respectively. Comparing the mean differences of the total mean aerobic and coliform bacterial counts, there was no significant mean differences (p>0.05) among the animal milk samples. However, there was significant mean differences (p<0.05) among the milk market sites. Different bacterial species were isolated from camel, cow and goat raw milk sample from the urban and rural milk market sites. The major bacterial isolates were Staphylococcus (both pathogenic and non-pathogenic), Escherichia coli and Bacillus species. Generally, the unhygienic milk handling resulted in poor milk quality in the pastoral area. Therefore, there is a need of training for persons at the various milk market sites on strict hygienic measures to improve the bacteriological safety of cow milk.

Present study was planned in order understand the surveillance, browsing behavior and nutritive value of camel browse vegetations.
Review of literatures indicated that camel is mostly found at arid and semi-arid areas of the world where average rain fall becomes less
than 350 mm per year. The estimated population in the world is 19 million, among which 17 million are supposed to be one-humped
dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius) and 2 million two-humped Bactrian camels (Camelus bactrianus).
Cognitive Enhancers Derived from Edible Crops
The concept of an effective cognitive boosting nootropic supplement is gaining traction with consumers, neuroscientists and regulators
alike and it is therefore unsurprising that scientifically validated Nootropics are highly prized. New research demonstrates edible crops
could be useful sources to mine for new nootropics; plant extracts enriched with an array of cognitive enhancing metabolites. There is merit
in investigating these plant species. Metadata has identifies consuming specific fruit and vegetables positively affects cognitive function;
therefore these same edible crop plants present as opportunities for developing nootropic formulations. This hypothesis is supported
by positive data obtained through clinical testing [e.g. extracts of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), herbs from the Genus Salvia, cocoa
(Theobroma), tea (Camellia sinensisor) and coffee (Coffea Arabica). This review will discuss clinically tested cognitive enhancers derived
from edible crop species and discuss their use alongside other classes of nootropics.
Retrospective Analysis of 185 Occurrences of Clinical Neurological Signs in 181 South American Camelids
Medical records of each occurrence of neurologic signs in 181 South American Camelids admitted on 185 occasions (90 alpacas and 95 llamas) were evaluated. Age ranged from 0 days to 20 years, but 70.5% of cases were ≥ 1 year old. Specific clinical diagnosis was achieved by cerebrospinal fluid analysis (CSF), radiographs, computed tomography, laboratory testing, or necropsy in 74% of cases. 54% of cases survived; 46% of cases died or were euthanized. The most common diagnosis (31%) was parasitic myelopathy/encephalopathy (PME). CSF eosinophilia ≥10% was found in 85% of parasitic spinal migrations but only in 55% of intracranial migrations, and 73% had increased protein in CSF. There was a seasonal bias for PME with 79% of cases occurring between October and March. Survival of PME cases was 77% for spinal migration but only 7% when intracranial migration occurred. The most common diagnoses, excluding PME, were infectious disease (15%) and trauma (12%). Most trauma cases involved the cervical spine of which 50% survived.
