Mathematical Analysis on the Design of Heliostat Field

The optimal design of heliostat field in solar power generation device is studied Heliostat field generates high temperature by focusing the sunlight reflected from the mirror surface, thus pushing the turbine to generate electricity. In order to improve the efficiency of power generation, this paper optimizes the parameters of heliostat field, establishes a singleobjective optimization model, and uses mixed strategy whale optimization algorithm to solve it. Through geometric optical analysis and ray tracing model, the optical efficiency of heliostat field and the annual average output thermal power per mirror area are calculated. Finally, through the discussion and analysis of the model, the optimization design method is evaluated.

Being in the Grip of Bulimia: New Evidence on how Bulimia Relates to Addictive Behavior

Using longitudinal data that tracks bulimic behavior among young girls (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study), we examine (1) whether the persistence in bulimia nervosa (BN) can be attributed to slow learning about the deleterious health effects of BN or if it reflects tolerance formed from an addiction; and 2) whether bulimic behavior is consistent with addiction criteria as stated in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV. To address the endogeneity of past behavior, we use instrumental variables, and show that past BN positively and significantly impacts current BN after controlling for individual heterogeneity. When accounting for BN ”stock,” the parameter estimates of past behavior are not negative, which casts doubt on the importance of learning. Making the case for treating BN as an addiction has important policy implications. First, it suggests that the timing of educational policy and treatment is crucial: preventive educational programs aimed at instructing girls about the deleterious health effects of BN, as well as treatment interventions, will be most effective if provided in the early stages. Second, it would put those exhibiting BN on more equal footing (from a treatment reimbursement perspective) with individuals with drug or alcohol addictions.

The Effect of the Morphology Optimization of Precursor with Different Nickel Content on the Performance of Lithium-Ion Battery Cathode Materials

Increasing the nickel content in the layered LiNixCoyMnzO2 (x + y + z = 1), the most promising cathode materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs), has been a dominant strategy to increase their energy density. In this study, we report the control on the primary particle morphology of precursors with different nickel contents, e.g. Ni0.5Co0.2Mn0.3(OH)2 Ni0.6Co0.2Mn0.2(OH)2 and Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2 by adjusting the preparation process. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images demonstrate that by decreasing the pH value and increasing the ammonia concentration, the order of precursors with different nickel contents increases, resulting in gradually directional and orderly stack or interlaced arrangement in the primary particles. With the increase of nickel content, the precursor changes from nano-sheet stacking like plug-in stereoscopic spheres to nano-needle interweaving like wool balls, all of which tend to grow in the direction of [001].

Medial Meniscus Dislocation: One Case Report and Literature Review

We present rare case of medial meniscus dislocation, in a 25 years old female patient who was admitted in emergency department. With painful locked left knee. Arthroscopy was done next day showing isolated dislocation of medial meniscus with the absence of any medial meniscus tear. Only reduction of the medial meniscus was done. Postoprative MRI confirmed the diagnosis and showed no tears in the medial meniscus. Physiotherapy and clinical follow up were done with good results and no recurrence for 4 months postoperative.

Eco Safe Assimilation of Plastic Wastes by Microbes and Biodegradable Alternatives: A Review

Lack of degradability and the closing of landfill sites as well as growing water and land pollution problems have led to concern about plastics. In the past few decades, the use of plastics has enormously increased, mostly used for food packaging. Ironically, the most preferred property of plastics – durability – exerts also the major environmental threat. With the excessive use of plastics and increasing pressure being placed on capacities available for plastic waste disposal, the need for biodegradable plastics and biodegradation of plastic wastes has assumed increasing importance in the last few years.

Optimizing Outcomes with Multifocal Intraocular Lenses

Current present-day cataract surgery evolves from a visual restoration to a refractive approach. Greater independence from glasses and improvement of the quality of life were provided after surgery with the appearance of multifocal intraocular lenses (MF-IOLs). Since its creation in the 1980s, MFIOLs has undergone various technical improvements, including trifocal implants and implants with extended depth of vision. Excellent results were achieved thorough preoperative check, including the visual needs of the patients and the inherent eye anatomy. This analysis offers a broad overview of the various types of Mf-IOLs and rules for optimizing results through full preoperative screening and treatment postoperatively complications.

Consistent Confidence Limits, P Values, and Power of the Non-Conservative, Size – α Modified Fisher exact Test

The classical Fisher exact test [1], which is unconditionally the uniformly most powerful unbiased (UMPU) test, requires randomization at the critical value(s) to be of size α. Obviously, one needs a non-randomized version of this. Rejecting the null only if the test-statistic’s outcome is more extreme than the critical values, reduces the actual size considerably. The modified Fisher exact test introduced in [2] additionally rejects the null when the test attains the critical value c(t) and the randomization probability γ(t) (that depend on the total number of successes T) exceeds a threshold γ0, which is determined such that, for all values of the nuisance parameter, the size of the unconditional modified test is smaller, but as close as possible to α. This greatly improves the size and power of the test as compared to, for example, the conservative nonrandomized Fisher exact test, while controlling the Type 1 error rate.

On Optimization of Manufacturing of Field-Effect Heterotransistors Framework Current Comparator to Increase their Density

In this paper we introduce an analytical approach to analyze mass and heat transport in heterostructures during manufacturing of integrated circuits with account nonlinearity of processes. The approach gives a possibility to analyze mass and heat transport in multilayer structures without crosslinking of solutions on interfaces between layers. The approach also gives a possibility to take into account spatial and temporal variation of parameters of considered processes. Based on this approach we analyzed manufacturing a current comparator to increase density of elements.

Recent Developments in Human Odor Detection Technologies

Human odor detection technologies have drawn attention due to the wide possibility of potential applications they open up in areas such as biometrics, criminal investigation and forensics, search for survivors under rubble, and security checkpoint screening. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) has been the most successful and powerful analytical approach developed to date for human odor analysis, and hundreds of human odorants have been identified using this tool.

Electronic-nose Applications in Forensic Science and for Analysis of Volatile Biomarkers in the Human Breath

The application of electronic-nose (E-nose) technologies in forensic science is a recent new development following a long history of progress in the development of diverse applications in the related biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. Data from forensic analyses must satisfy the needs and requirements of both the scientific and legal communities. The type of data collected from electronic-nose devices provides a means of identifying specific types of information about the chemical nature of evidentiary objects and samples under investigation using aroma signature profiles of complex gaseous mixtures containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from manufactured products and parts of the human body. E-nose analyses also provide useful qualitative information about the physicochemical characteristics and metabolic conditions of human subjects without the need for time-consuming analyses to identify all chemical components in human-derived volatile mixtures.

Characteristic Human Scent Compounds Trapped on Natural and Synthetic Fabrics as analyzed by SPME-GC/MS

The collection of human odor volatiles is of interest to forensic applications as a path to investigate canine scent discriminations in legal investigations. Fabrication of Vertical Cu2ZnSnS4 Nanowire Arrays by Two-Step Electroplating Method into Anodic Aluminum Oxide Template

Vertical Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanowire arrays have been synthesized via two-step electroplating method into anodized aluminum oxide template. For deposition of CZTS nanowires, anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) was used as the growth mask for the growth of the nanowires. AAO templates with hole sizes of 70 nm in diameter were used in the experiments.

Synthesis of BaTiO3 Nanowires via Anodic Aluminum Oxide Template Method Assisted by Vacuum-and-Drop Loading

In this paper, we report on the synthesis of BaTiO3 nanowires via the anodic aluminum oxide template method. To fill in the precursors of BaTiO3 into anodic aluminum oxide templates, the vacuum and drop loading method developed in our previous study was used. Ba(CH3COO)2 (barium acetate) and C12H28O4Ti (tetraisopropyl orthotitanate) were used as Ba and Ti sources, respectively. Anodic aluminum oxide membranes with the through-hole diameter of ~200 nm were used as the template for BaTiO3 nanowires.
