Comparison of Hemodialysis Patients and Healthy Individuals Attitudes towards Organ Donation: A Descriptive Study

The research is comparative descriptive type. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 167 people, including 82 hemodialysis patients and 85 healthy individuals who applied to the Family Health Center. The data of the study were obtained using the questionnaire and organ donation attitude scale. SPSS 25 was used in the analysis of the data.

Urinary tract infection is defined as the presence of microorganism in the urine that cannot be accounted by contamination. First line treatments for UTI are antibiotics. Rapid Peak Alignment for MALDI-TOF Lipid Analysis

The ability to measure structural and functional alterations in cellular and tissue lipids with small footprint, accessible instrumentation has sparked interest in their role in disease pathology. However, various lipidomic analytical tools tend to be cumbersome and time-consuming. A rapid, accurate, and straight forward peak alignment software routine would greatly facilitate the analysis of large datasets, such as those produced by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). Herein, we describe a novel Rapid Peak Alignment Method (RPAM) which allows untargeted analysis of lipids expressed in brain white matter following chronic ethanol exposure in an established experimental model. The RPAM outputs data comparable to manual peak alignments but the processing time requires only 90 minutes instead of 8-10 hours. This method is readily adapted to a broad range of models, tissue types, and human diseases.

Hemoglobin SC Disease with COVID-19 Presenting with Multiple Infarcts and Acute Splenic Sequestration Crises

Hb SC disease is a type of hemoglobinopathy that can be viewed as a hybrid of hemoglobin S and C. In this disorder there is co-inheritance of one Hbs gene and one HbC gene resulting in a milder phenotype than sickle cell anemia (SCA). Whereas SCA clinical features have been extensively studied, very few studies have been dedicated specifically to HbSC disease as most cases are reported to be silent or of mild severity. As the pandemic continues to evolve with the novel Sars-CoV-2 virus we have learned it can lead to thrombotic complications which could be fatal if not detected early. Of those requiring admission to the intensive care unit, most carry multiple comorbidities (hypertension, diabetes mellitus etc.) leading to worse clinical outcomes. Here, we present a case of a young adult patient with silent hemoglobin SC disease who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 leading to multiple infarcts, splenic sequestration and respiratory failure. The concurrence of a hemoglobinopathy and COVID-19 should warrant heightened clinical suspicion for unusual outcomes. Hence, providers must remain vigilant while treating any patient with any hemoglobinopathy in the setting of COVID-19.

Exploring the Behavioral Drivers of Antibiotic Prescription in Food Animal’s Practitioners

Irrational use of antimicrobials in food animals is reported as a primary cause of antibiotic resistance (AMR) at the animal human interface with detrimental public health implications. Veterinarians are the main player for antimicrobial usage in food producing animals (FPAs). Therefore, this study was aimed to explore the key determinants of antibiotic prescription behavior among FPAs practitioners and its public health implications. Multiphysics Coupled Modeling of Coal Seam Fracture Stimulation Under Highly Pressurized Gas Impact Loading

3D gas-solid coupled symmetrical numerical model was developed on the basis of multiphysics finite element platform to study coal seam fracture stimulation under the high pressure gas impact loading generated by the highly pressurized multi-discharge carbon dioxide gas fracturing technique to improve pre gas drainage efficiency. The purposes of this study are to understand the natural and operational factors contribute to coal seam fracture stimulation and improvement of coal seam gas drainage efficiency and the interaction of these parameters.

Case Report: Severe Sequelae of Sleep Disorders

We report 2 cases of severe injuries in patients with sleep disorders. The first patient sustained multiple orthopedic traumas as sequelae of REM sleep behavior disorders (RBD). The second patient sustained a severe TBI as a result of restless legs syndrome (RLS). To our knowledge, there are only 2 reported cases of severe orthopedic traumas (cervical spine fractures) as a result of RBD and no reported cases of severe TBI from RLS.

Effect of 4-h Time Restricted Feeding on Body Weight, Leptin Concentration and Lipid Profile in Healthy Non-Obese Male Wistar Rats

Obesity greatly increases the risk of metabolic diseases and preventive approaches for obesity are often insufficient to effectively prevent the diseases. Altering feeding time strategy intervention decreases caloric intake without calorie counting and may be an effective therapy. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of 4-h time restricted feeding on body weight, leptin concentration and lipid profile in healthy non-obese male Wistar rats.
