The Psychopath as an Irrational Agent: A Canadian Criminal Law Perspective by Kevin Moustapha
The purpose of this study is to look at the capacity of psychopaths to act in a rational manner within the meaning of section 16 of the
Canadian Criminal Code. We therefore focus on certain neuroscientific studies in order to see whether they can inform us about the
disorders that psychopaths suffer from, and whether those disorders could have an impact on their ability to act rationally. If they do, then
psychopathy could be an ailment that triggers the section 16 defence of not criminally responsible owing to a mental disorder and also the
implications of the Supreme Court of Canada decision in Bouchard-Lebrun.
The Existence of International Criminal Justice and Liability
International Criminal Justice is seen with the bi-focal lens of liability under municipal laws, enforced by the local courts and international laws enforced by international tribunals. Another limb to this is the application of Customary International Laws to crimes within national jurisdictions as certain crimes are seen as universal deeming such submergible under municipal laws. Implementation of treaties become relevant in this regard due to the important roles of consenting nations in abiding by the principles of law designed to tackle crimes internationally and the exigent need to keep the peace within the local jurisdictions.
Gross and Histopathological Alterations in Experimental Trypanosoma Evansi Infection in Donkeys and the Effect of Isometamidium Chloride Treatment
Trypanosoma evansi (T. evansi) infection causes wasting and fatal animal trypanosomosis. This study was aimed at determining the gross and histopathological alterations in donkeys experimentally infected with T. evansi and the effect of isometamidium chloride treatment. Apparently healthy donkeys (N=18) of mixed sexes were randomly assigned to 3 groups; A1 (Infected-untreated), A2 (Infected, isometamidium-treated) and B (Uninfected, control) of six animals each. Each animal in infected groups had about 2.0x106 T. evansi injected through the jugular vein. Parasitaemia levels were evaluated using HCT and Mice Inoculation Test (support test). Gross and histopathological examinations were also conducted post-infection and post-treatment.
