Evaluation of Infectious and Malignant Complications in Elderly Renal Transplant Recipients Receiving Alemtuzumab Compared to Basiliximab
The choice of induction immunosuppression can affect several outcomes after kidney transplant (KTx). We aimed to evaluate infectious and malignant complications between alemtuzumab and basiliximab in elderly KTx recipients. Patients ≥ 65 years old who received alemtuzumab or basiliximab induction for their primary KTx from 2006 – 2018 were included.
Pilonidal Sinus, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Negative Pressure dressing will be Appropriate
Chronic pilonidal sinus disease, an acquired benign affliction too many across the globe but in the very few follows through to malignant transformation. We report an unusual case of a large squamous cell carcinoma arising from a chronic pilonidal sinus, its successful surgical excision and detailed documentation of wound healing with the assistance of a negative pressure wound therapy dressing. For large sacrococcygeal wounds we evidence that secondary intention healing via NPWT is a valid initial alternative to reconstructive surgery with a good cosmetic outcome and the option for early ambulation.
Differentiated Approach and Steps in the Obstructive Jaundice Patients Treatment
The course of obstructive jaundice (OJ) is frequently complicated by manifestations of cholangitis of different degree of expression and by progression of hepatocellular failure.
Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans of Abdominal Wall: A Case Report
Dermatofibrosacroma protuberans of abdominal wall is very rare. Surgery is treatment
Recurrent Mucinous Ovarian Neoplasms: Rationale and Results of a New Treatment Plan in Four Patients
Recurrence of a mucinous ovarian neoplasm after resection is unusual but this does happen. If possible, a repeat surgical
removal of recurrent disease is the treatment of choice. The results of a repeat intervention are poor. A review of our results of treatment of recurrent mucinous ovarian neoplasms was performed.
Degree of Malignancy of T-Cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia Related to Autofluorescence in an EL4-Based Model
T cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (T-ALL) is an aggressive hematologic malignancy in terms of its pathology and populations. It is important to understand the phenomenon of autofluorescence in living cells because normal and cancer cells can be distinguished by this feature. However, the autofluorescence link to T-ALL is poorly understood.
Double Stroke and Double Malignancy: A Case Report
Stroke associated with malignancy is rapidly increasing. Lesion types mainly resemble cardio embolic multiple ischemic lesions. We present a rare stroke patient with both ischemic and hemorrhagic lesions simultaneously. The etiology of stroke was found to be due to lung cancer and essential thrombocytosis. Differential diagnosis in this case can help for further investigation of strokes with malignancy.
Liquid Biopsy in Advanced Gastric Malignancy and Molecular Targeted Therapy; a Case Report and Update Pertaining Anti HER2-Neu Therapy
Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is responsible for the pathogenesis and poor outcomes of several types of cancers, including advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer. Molecular-targeted drugs on the other hand, such as trastuzumab, prolong overall survival and progression-free survival in HER2-positive gastric cancer. The purpose of the case report is to evaluate the impact of delivering trastuzumab in advanced gastric cancer with concomitant HER2 mutation and amplification.
Gastroesophageal Cancer: Prognostic Factors and Treatment Results
The study presents the remote results of surgical treatment of 329 patients with cancer of gastroesophageal localization. Three 3-year survival rate is 37.1%, the 5-year survival rate is 26.2%. Prognosis after the surgery depends primarily on the extent of the tumour spread.
Age Adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index: Predictor of 90-Day Mortality after Radical Cystectomy
To evaluate the impact of age adjusted Charlson’s comorbidity index (ACCI) in predicting 90-day mortality in patients undergoing radical cystectomy for Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (MIBC) in a low volume center.
Recurrent Benign Granular Cell Tumor of Breast with Malignancy – Does it Exist?
A granular cell tumor of the breast parenchyma is a rare tumor accounting for 5-6% of all granular cell carcinoma and are mostly benign in nature.
Hepatic Dysfunction as Presenting Manifestation of Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Hepatic dysfunction is rarely the presenting feature of malignancy, however it is important to recognize early on as the quick institution of chemotherapy could potentially reverse the liver disease.
Sudden Death Due to Sarcoma: An Unusual Case and Literature Review
Sudden death has varied causes, and autopsy is usually required to determine cause of death. Sarcoma involvement is very infrequent, and detailed pathological evaluation is needed for correct diagnosis.
Historical Concepts of Ovarian Dermoid Cysts
A study of the history of the dermoid cyst of the ovary suggests that the old masters were only conversant with large tumors. The relatively smaller dermoid cyst with its typical greasy matter and hairs only came into recognition during the second half of the 19th century. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to document how the medical masters of yester years became acquainted with this distinct disease.
Sacrococcygeal Teratoma in a Developing Community
An epidemiologic data pool was formed from cases of SCT submitted as surgical specimens to a Reference Pathology Laboratory serving the Igbo Ethnic Group in South-Eastern Nigeria.
