Histomorphological Features of Sarcoidosis - 4 Year Study in a Tertiary Care Center, South Kerala
Pathologists are frequently involved in the diagnosis of sarcoidosis on conventional biopsies and cytology specimens. Histology generally does not pose difficult tasks in the correct clinical and imaging scenario, but atypical forms of sarcoidosis exist, and in these cases, the diagnosis may become difficult. The final diagnosis always requires the careful integration of the histology with the clinical, laboratory, and radiologic findings. The differential diagnoses of sarcoidosis includes granulomatous infections, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, pneumoconiosis, autoimmune diseases, drug reactions, chronic aspiration, and even diffuse fibrosing diseases. In this study, we discuss the histomorphological aspects of Sarcoidosis, along with radiological, biochemical and clinical aspects. The most important finding is the presence of non caseating granulomas by histology which needs to be interpreted in the light of appropriate clinico-radiological and laboratory findings. This study emphasises the role of the pathologist and discusses the differential diagnosis.
The Effect of the Morphology Optimization of Precursor with Different Nickel Content on the Performance of Lithium-Ion Battery Cathode Materials
Increasing the nickel content in the layered LiNixCoyMnzO2 (x + y + z = 1), the most promising cathode materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs), has been a dominant strategy to increase their energy density. In this study, we report the control on the primary particle morphology of precursors with different nickel contents, e.g. Ni0.5Co0.2Mn0.3(OH)2 Ni0.6Co0.2Mn0.2(OH)2 and Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2 by adjusting the preparation process. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images demonstrate that by decreasing the pH value and increasing the ammonia concentration, the order of precursors with different nickel contents increases, resulting in gradually directional and orderly stack or interlaced arrangement in the primary particles. With the increase of nickel content, the precursor changes from nano-sheet stacking like plug-in
stereoscopic spheres to nano-needle interweaving like wool balls, all of which tend to grow in the direction of [001].
Genomic Asymmetry for Morphology in Allopolyploids within and Out of Brassica
The genomic asymmetry in the nonrandom retention and expression of controlling genes for some traits from one parental diploid is obvious in some natural and synthetic allopolyploids, and has the evolutionary implications. Here we review the genomic asymmetry for the morphological performance in three cultivated Brassica allotetraploids and some intergeneric allopolyploids within Brassicaceae species. For the phenotypic biases of Brassica allotetraploids, Brassica oleracea (genomes CC) is dominant over B. nigra (BB) and B. rapa (AA) in B. carinata (CCBB) and B. napus (CCAA), respectively, and B. nigra is dominant over B. rapa in B. juncea (BBAA), showing the C>B>A dominance hierarchy.
Setting Threshold Value for Peripheral Blood Morphology Slide Review of Leucocytes and Lymphocytes at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Evaluation of peripheral blood morphology is an important screening tool for many diseases.
On the Formation and On the Surface of Inorganic Lead, Barium and Antimony Based Gunshot Residues: Thermodynamic Approach
In their first full report on the analysis of GSR by SEM-EDS, Wolten and colleagues stated that the great majority of the gunshot residue
particles (GSR), between 70 to 100%, have a characteristic morphology thus providing a detection criterion holding significance equal to
that provided by the elemental composition. In fact, the particles must have a spherical or spheroidal shape and their surface should appear
amorphous, devoid of any crystalline characteristic.
Comparison of Two Freezing Extenders and their Influence on Sperm Quality of Tunisian Arab stallions
The objective of the study was to evaluate semen quality of Tunisian Arab stallions frozen with 2 methods using 2 freezing basedextenders: the INRA 96® or the INRA Freeze®.
Characterization of the Resin Luting Materials: Percentage, Morphology and Mechanical Properties
The purpose of this study was: 1) to determine the percentage of fillers by weight of the investigated materials by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), to examine their fillers morphology using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), 2) and to evaluate the mechanical properties of these materials.
Study on Hair Morphology to Distinguish the Dominant Races in Malaysia for Forensic Investigation
Hair evidence is one of the most common types of evidence encountered in criminal investigations. The present preliminary study is aimed to investigate the racial discrimination through hair morphology viz. inner cuticle margin, cuticle thickness and medulla pattern among Malay, Chinese and Indian in Malaysia.
Liposphere: A Versatile Controlled Release Carrier for Hydrophobic Drugs
Researchers have been inventing new drugs since time immemorial. Of late it is established that the development of new drugs alone is not sufficient to ensure progress in drug therapy. The missing link is a potential strategy. It involves the apt selection of drug carrier systems.
The Effects of the Film Thickness and Roughness in the Anodization Process of Very Thin Aluminum Films
The anodization of aluminum foils having micrometer thickness is a common process and results in hexagonally self-ordered alumina membranes. However, anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes fabricated from nanometer-thin films present new challenges to the anodization process, since aluminum films adheres poorly on supporting substrates and the smoothness of the film is highly related to the kind of substrate.
