Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease that affects patients’ lung function and thus exercise tolerance. Elderly patients have shown to have more severe and long-term symptoms after contracting COVID-19. Limited evidence has been published on the effectiveness of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programme for elderly patients recovered from COVID-19. Therefore, the aim of this study was to launch and evaluate the effectiveness of a communitybased cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programme.

Kidney Injury in Ordinary Adult Cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019

Kidney injury has been observed broadly in severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, but the impairment of renal function in ordinary cases has rarely reported. We conducted this study to explore whether patients in ordinary condition suffered from kidney injury during the course of COVID-19 and to find out a proper indicator for detecting kidney injury in COVID-19 patients.

The New Coronavirus (COVID-19) Declared as a Global Pandemic

The lately declared-coronavirus (COVID-19) is being the main threat worldwide due to its high incidence, morbidity and global economic impacts. It is easy to spread from person to person, through infected surfaces, and the absence of vaccine make the situation more difficult to handle. This review aims to alert the pandemic evolution taken by the actual outbreak of the COVID-19, and therefore calls the highest institutions of the global health namely the World Health Organization (WHO) to reinforce the measures taken in the fight against this new virus by working tightly with each affected region and the emergency in elaborating a new vaccine.

Canavan Disease (Aspartoacylase Deficiency): Report of the First Case in Basque Country and a Novel Mutation in Europe

Canavan disease, a genetic and metabolic neurodegenerative disorder, occurs at early ages, causing visual, neurological alterations, and fatal consequences. There is no curative treatment, although lithium citrate is being investigated. This is the first case reported in the Basque region of Spain and it introduces a novel mutation to Europe.

The Blue Water Navy and the Question of Exposure to Agent Orange

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs has consistently denied the estimated 90,000 Vietnam veterans who served on ships off the coast of Vietnam that they were exposed to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War, and thus do not qualify for health care and compensation as provided for under the terms of the Agent Orange Act of 1991. Extensive scientific evidence and historical records concluded that it was highly unlikely that Blue Water Navy personnel were ever exposed to Agent Orange while serving off the coast of Vietnam.

Switching Darunavir/Ritonavir to Darunavir/Cobicistat in Clinical Practice Experience with 150 patients through 48 weeks

Darunavir (DRV) boosted with ritonavir (RTV) is currently among the preferred antiretroviral agents. Cobicistat (COBI), a new cytochrome P450 inhibitor is replacing RTV as pharmacoenhancer. Coformulated DRV/COBI has been approved based on bioequivalence data; however, results on efficacy and safety in clinical practice are scarce. COBI inhibits creatinine tubular secretion, thus raising concerns about its renal safety.

Dual- Energy CT (DECT) Pulmonary Angiography in Acute Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PTE): Causes, Semiology and Potential Diagnostic Pitfalls

ObjectivesThe dual-energy computed tomographic (DECT) technique allows the differentiation of materials with large atomic numbers such as iodine. The basic principle of dual-energy CT is material decomposition based on attenuation differences at different energy levels. The parameters for iodine extraction are a minimum value of – 960 HU, and a maximum of –600 HU. Lung parenchyma with normal perfusion in this attenuation range is presented in orange, and an area of decreased perfusion is visualized as an iodine defect area.

Tolerating Extreme Hyperkalemia in a Non-Compliant Dialysis Patient

Dialysis patients are known to tolerate high potassium due to the chronic hyperkalemia that is inherent in their disease. Despite this, most reports of extremely high potassium (>9 mmol/L) are in the setting of cardiac arrest. We describe the case of a 57-year-old Caucasian male with past medical history significant for end stage renal disease known to be non-adherent to a low potassium diet as well as missed dialysis appointments.

Meningoencephalitis due to Enteroviral Infection – An Often Overlooked Etiology

Enteroviruses are responsible for causing several recent well-publicized outbreaks in the United States, including gastrointestinal and upper respiratory infections. Enteroviruses are also capable of infecting the central nervous system, leading to manifestations of meningitis and encephalitis. Because enteroviruses are often overlooked as the etiology of CNS infections, we explore data from national surveillance, typical presentation and diagnostic information, as well as patterns of infection and transmission in an effort to remind practitioners to be mindful of this frequent cause of infection and its propensity to be spread from person to person.

The Flesh Fly Sarcophaga (Liopygia) crassipalpis Macquart 1839 as an Invader of a Corpse in Calabria (Southern Italy)

We present an indoor forensic case that occurred in spring 2013 in Cosenza (southern Italy). The entomological evidence collected at the scene consisted of Calliphoridae (Calliphora vicina, Lucilia sericata), Sarcophagidae (Sarcophaga crassipalpis), Fanniidae (Fannia scalaris) and Muscidae (Hydrotaea ignava).
