Explorations of the Combined Effects of Surface Energy, Initial Stress and Nonlocality on the Dynamic Behaviour of Carbon Nanotubes Conveying Fluid Resting on Elastic Foundations in a Thermo-Magnetic Environment

The vibrations of carbon nanotubes under the influences of various internal and external forces have been subjects of interests for some years. These researches have not really considered the effects of surface energy and initial stress which are very important from both material and mechanical aspects of views. Therefore, the current study presents the simultaneous impacts of surface energy, initial stress and nonlocality and other various parameters on the nonlinear vibration of carbon nanotube hot fluid-conveying resting on elastic foundations in a magnetic environment. The derived equations governing the behaviours are solved using Galerkin’s decomposition-Adomian decomposition method is adopted to explore the concurrent impacts of surface elasticity, initial stress, residual surface tension and nonlocality on the nonlinear vibration of singlewalled carbon conveying nanotube resting on linear and nonlinear elastic foundation and operating in a thermo-magnetic environment

ED Patients with Shock have only Few Clinical Characteristics Related to Etiology

The aim of this study is to describe clinical variables and comorbidities in patients with shock, at arrival to the emergency department, and evaluate the diagnostic validity for different shock etiologies. This was a retrospective cohort study with tertiary analysis of data previously published in two other studies. The study population was all patients with shock, arriving to the emergency department at Odense University Hospital between 2000 and 2011. Shock was defined as systolic blood pressure ≤100mmHg and one or more organ failures. Patients were grouped according to discharge diagnoses and this method was manually validated through patient records. The diagnostic value of 26 clinical variables and 10 comorbidities were described and tested.

Bioequivalence between two Prolonged Release Tablets of Desvenlafaxine Succinate in Healthy Subjects under Fasting and Fed Conditions

Bioavailability in different formulations of desvenlafaxine100 mg prolonged-release tablets was compared in two bioequivalence studies, one under fasting conditions and the other after a standard breakfast. Both studies were a single dose, randomized, open-label, two-period crossover, with Brazilian male and female healthy subjects. Blood samples were taken during 48 h and plasmatic concentrations were determined using a validated UPLC-MS/MS method.

“Only Cigarette Butt is Left, DNA Fingerprinting Traps the Theft”

The examination of saliva traces left on cigarette butts as evidences are complicated due to the availability of biological material in trace amounts and its rapid degradation due to extreme effects of environmental factors. This study is aimed to assess the DNA purity and quantify the amount of DNA preserved in saliva found on cigarette butts subjected to various temperatures and humidity. Isolation of cell material from biological traces on forensic evidence is often a serious challenge to solving forensic cases.

Clinical and Pathological Changes in the Offspring of Rats with Torsio Uteri

We investigated the histopathological changes observed in the brains, organs, and apoptotic changes in the brain of young rats born from rats with torsio uteri that survive. We divided 10 Sprague-Dawley rats with a gestational age of 18-19 days into two groups. The rats in group 1 (i.e., the control group; n=5) were given anesthesia only; the rats in group 2 (study group; n=5) underwent a 360-degree clockwise torsion in their uterus, and the torsion was corrected after 6 hours. The births of the offspring were followed, and 7 female and male offspring 1 month of age were selected in each group. The vaginal openings of the young female offspring were checked to determine the time to reach puberty. The 1-month-old male offspring and the mature young female rats were then decapitated. Tissue samples, including visceral organs, genital organs, and brains, were evaluated by histapathologically; we also investigated apoptosis via the TUNEL method. Although no abortion was observed in any of the pregnant rats in the control group, two abortions were observed in the study group after torsion/detorsion.

Methylmalonic Acidemia and Megaloblastic Anemia due to Congenital Intrinsic Factor Deficiency

Causes of vitamin B12 deficiency in children include decreased intake, abnormal absorption, and inborn errors of B12 transport and metabolism. Rare causes of abnormal cobalamin absorption include Imerslund-Grasbeck syndrome (IGS) and intrinsic factor deficiency (IFD). IGS and IFD are caused by defects in the genes CUBN, AMN, and GIF. We describe a 2 year old male who presented with severe megaloblastic anemia and methylmalonic acidemia. He was found to have a GIF heterozygous mutation c.79+1G>A associated with congenital gastric intrinsic factor deficiency and a novel variant c.960C>A in trans position.

Odontometric analysis of sexual dimorphism in permanent maxillary and mandibular molars

In the field of human osteology, sex estimation is an important step in developing a biological profile. There are a number of methods that can be used to estimate the sex of human remains, varying from visual assessments to metric analysis of sexually dimorphic traits. Teeth are one of the most durable physical elements in the human body and thus can be very successfully used for this purpose. The present study investigates the utility of cervical measurements for sex estimation through discriminant analysis. The permanent molar teeth of 75 skeletons (28 females and 52 males) from the Hasanlu site in north-western Iran were studied. Cervical mesiodistal and buccolingual measurements were taken from both maxillary and mandibular first and second molars. Discriminant analysis was used to evaluate the accuracy of each diameter in assessing sex. The results showed that males had statistically larger teeth than females for maxillary and mandibular molars and cervical mesiodistal and buccolingual measurements (P < 0.05). The range of classification rate was from 78.4% to 87.1% for the original and 78.4% to 85.5% for cross-validated data. The most dimorphic teeth were the maxillary and mandibular second molars, providing 87.1% and 86.1% correct classification rate respectively. The data generated from the present study suggested that cervical mesiodistal and buccolingual measurements of molar teeth can be useful and reliable for sex estimation in Iranian archaeological populations.

Unusual Presentation of Flexor Tendon Sheath Massive Ganglion

We report a unusual case of a flexor tendon sheath ganglion in a 78 years old, right hand dominant female presented with right little finger large multiloculated swelling involving the whole volar aspect of the little finger leaving the patient with fears of malignancy, swollen finger with limited mobility and distal tip numbness.
