Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Rainfall and Rainy Days over the Goa State

Planning for water resources development in a basin or over a region requires careful assessment of the available water resources and reasonable needs of the basin/region in foreseeable future for various purposes such as drinking water, irrigation, hydro-power, navigation, etc. There are several ongoing river water disputes between different states of India, especially in the peninsular region due to decrease in rainfall during the past 15 years or so. The sharing of water of the Mondovi River is a cause of dispute between the Governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa states. An attempt has therefore, been made to study the characteristics of rainfall distribution over the Goa state using daily and monthly rainfall data. The study mostly comprises of spatial distribution of rainfall, seasonal and annual rainfall trend, relationship between rainfall and rainy days, mean daily rainfall intensity (MDI) and yearly variation of rainfall as well. The results of this study would form basis for various studies in administrating fresh water sources, projecting the investments to prevent the urban areas from the flood and proper planning of the agricultural activities in the State.

Development and Optimization of an LC-MS/MS Method for Dosage Form of Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2 ) in Human Plasma

Accurate measurement of ergocalciferol in biological samples has become easier using high-end mass spectra. Currently, various LCMS/MS methods have been developed to quantify ergocalciferol. Use of LC-MS/MS has accomplished to develop an accurate method that could quantify ergocalciferol in a large number of samples where it should be analyzed in the blood immediately after dosage. The objective of this study is to optimize chromatographic conditions and evaluate the LC-MS/MS method for accurate quantification of the dosage form of ergocalciferol in human plasma. Extraction and separation of ergocalciferol in human plasma was achieved using methanol liquid-liquid extraction and by a reverse phase C8 column, respectively

Increased High Mobility Group Protein A2/SMAD3 Relates to Ovarian Cancer Progression

The high mortality associated with ovarian cancer is generally related to the development of drug-resistant disease. HMGA2 protein, a member of the high-mobility group AT-hook (HMGA) family of non-histone chromatin binding factors, is overexpressed in high-grade serous ovarian and tubal carcinomas, though little is known about its contribution to disease progression and drug resistance. We sought to assess whether compositional changes in HMGA2 production were associated with ovarian cancer progression.

Study on Efficiency of Protein Extractants Employed for Human Origin Determination of Blood

Human origin determination is an important aspect of blood grouping analysis in forensic science laboratories. In the present study, protein extractants like gel buffer, ammonia and saline employed for origin determination were evaluated and compared qualitatively and quantitatively for their role in the extraction of proteins from dried blood stained materials of human origin at regular time intervals.
