The Sensory Attributes Potentiating Effect of Mid-Infrared Rays on Moringa Leaf
Moringa leaf (Moringa oleifera) is referred to as the “natural nutrition of the tropics”, and in the Philippines, as “mothers’
best friend”. It possesses many health benefits and is also used in disease prevention and therapy. The enhancement of
moringa’s natural potency is a scientific challenge that has yet to be thought of. We found enhanced inherent characteristics
in the moringa leaf by irradiating using our recently invented 2-6µm mid-infrared ray generating atomizer (MIRGA). The
achieved benefits were a more desirable taste and aroma, and an enhanced shelf life, thus increasing the potential transportation distance, quality, and palatability. This scientific achievement was supported by suitable instrumentations and sensory
evaluation
Case Report: Pyoderma Gangrenosum in IBD Treated with Tofacitinib
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare ulcerating skin disease often presenting as an extra intestinal manifestation of IBD and is
difficult to manage. Treatment options for pyoderma gangrenosum include steroids, calcineurin inhibitors and anti TNF
agents. Here in, we report a case of recurrent Pyoderma gangrenosum with Ulcerative Colitis that was successfully managed
with Tofacintib, a JAK inhibitor
Studying the Infrared Spectroscopy and Structural Properties of Compounds Fluoride that Blotched by in
In doped calcium fluoride transparent conducting powder were prepared by solid-state reaction method. Structural properties of the samples were investigated as a function of various In-doping levels (x=0.00-0.01-0.02-0.03). The results of x-ray diffraction have shown that the samples are polycrystalline structure in cubic phase and show presence (111), (220), (311), (400) planes in pure CaF2 sample and the preferred orientation is (220) for pure CaF2 and we have peaks correspond (101), (112), (200), (202) for In for all samples and the preferred orientation is (112) for In for all samples. The average of crystallite size is within the range [2.976-0.845nm] for all samples. The relative intensities, distance between crystalline planes (d), crystallite size (D) and lattice parameters (a) were determined. Measuring the infrared spectrum of pure Calcium fluoride, it is found that there are six vibratory frequencies, namely: (3444.52 - 1517.59 - 1138.40 - 876.40 - 639.93 - 436.29) cm- 1 and six vibratory frequencies for indium doped calcium fluoride at 3wt%. (3441.94 - 1516.77 - 1138.44 - 876.55 - 642.09 -436.44) cm- 1 The study showed that the absorbance values, the absorption coefficient, the refractive index and the optical length were in the indium doped sample by 3wt% greater than that of the pure Calcium fluoride compound and are respectively: α=14.163 cm-1 n=1.767.
A Rare Case of Vaginal Endometrioma
Endometriosis is a estrogen-dependent disorder commonly found in pelvis or rare instances anywhere in the body. It is benign and has a chronic course. Complaints of pain, tender mass, cyclical association with menstrual cycle are almost pathognomonic. We present a rare presentation of endometriosis as vaginal wall cyst in a 32 year old female and without any clinical history of endometriosis either in past or present. The isolated presentation of endometriosis as a cyst in vagina is a rare presentation. The case is glaring example of occurrence of endometriosis at unusual extra uterine location. It is essential for gynecologists to keep endometriosis as differential diagnosis when encountering similar cysts in vaginal region.
A rare case of levofloxacin-induced fatal hypoglycemia in a non-diabetic patient with the review of literature
Levofloxacin, a broad-spectrum, third-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic, is rarely reported to cause life-threatening adverse effects, such as severe hypoglycemia resulting in coma. We report a rare case of hypoglycemia in an elderly non- diabetic patient induced by levofloxacin. A 61-year-old male patient was admitted with severe hypoglycemia. His past medical history revealed treatment with levofloxacin for pneumonia.
Gangliocytic Paraganglioma of the Appendix; A Rare Case Report and Review
Gangliocytic paraganglioma (GP) (nonchromaffin paraganglioma, paraganglioma) is a morphologically distinct tumor
most commonly occurring in the second part of the duodenum in the proximity of ampulla of Vater. We herein, present
a case report of appendiceal mass in a 16-year-old male who presented with recurrent right iliac fossa pain and steno sing
cecal tumor on CT abdomen. He underwent right hemicolectomy and histopathological examination of appendix showed
infiltration of appendiceal wall with gangliocytic paraganglioma. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of
gangliocytic paraganglioma of appendix in our area.
Hierarchical Analysis of The Factors Associated with the Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables: Cohort of Universities of Minas Gerais, Brazil (Cume Project)
The objective of this study was to assess which factors, at hierarchical levels, are associated with adequate consumption of fruits and vegetables (FV) in undergraduate and graduate students. This is a cross-sectional analysis of the baseline of the Cohort of Universities of Minas Gerais (CUME Project), with alumni from Universities of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in the years 2016 and 2018. The outcome variable was adequate consumption of FV (≥400 g/day). The exposure variables were divided into: block 1, socioeconomic (marital status, education, professional status, individual and family income); block 2, behavioral (physical activity, alcohol consumption, tobacco use, and consumption of legumes, natural juices, ultra-processed foods, soft drinks and industrialized juices, and fast foods); block 3, individual (gender, age, skin color, self-perception of health and presence of obesity, systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and depression). To verify the associations, hierarchical multiple logistic regression was used. The sample consisted of 4,124 individuals with a median age of 34 years and Interquartile Range (IQ) of 12 years, 68.1% women, with a high frequency (62.2%) of adequate consumption of FV. This adequate consumption of FV was associated with being a woman (OR=1.41; 95%CI 1.21-1.64; p<0.001), advancing in age and being physically active (OR=2.10; 95%CI 1.78-2.47; p<0.001), having regular consumption of natural fruit juice (OR=2.00; 95%CI 1.70-2.34, p<0.001), or consumption of ultra-processed foods (OR=0.96; 95%CI 0.95-0.97; p<0.001). In conclusion, individual and behavioral factors are associated with adequate consumption of FV in highly educated individuals.
An Unusual Lesion on The Palate: A Rare Case Report
Minor salivary glands are present in most parts of the mouth. They are the important components whose secretion directly bathe the tissues of the oral cavity. Smoking is the most commonly seen deleterious habit among men which directly affects minor salivary glands in the palate. Smoking also causes stomatitis nicotina in the oral cavity.
A Rare Case of Albrights Hereditary Osteodystrophy presenting as Recurrent Hypocalcemic Tetany
An internist with an eagle’s eye can diagnose many hidden diseases through careful examination. One such hereditary
metabolic disorder is Albright’s Hereditary Osteodystrophy (AHO). Characteristic presentations in an individual affected
by AHO were short stature, obesity, mild mental retardation and brachydactyly especially of 4th and 5th digits, which
are the phenotypic features of genetic mutation. Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) is characterized by inability of the
body to respond appropriately to parathormone, mainly characterized by hypocalcaemia, increased serum parathormone
concentration, insensitivity to the biological activity of parathormone and hyperphosphatemia. AHO when seen in
association with resistance to parathormone (PTH), it is called PHP. Here is a case report of 22-year-old female patient
with AHO with distinctive physical characteristics who presented to us with recurrent hypocalcaemic tetan
Candida, a Rare Cause of Duodenal Perforation
Candida infections of the gastrointestinal tract are rare and perforation caused by Candida infections is extremely rare. Herein, we present a case of duodenal perforation where laboratory culture revealed the growth of a fungus, Candida and the absence of H. pylori from a 51-year-old female who presented with an upper abdominal pain while performing her religious obligation in the month of Ramadan. The results suggest emergency exploratory laparotomy and the perforation discovered was repaired through omental patching. An antifungal agent, Fluconazole, was administered.
Liquorice-Induced Pseudohyperaldosteronism with Severe Hypokalaemia in a Young Patient Living with HIV: A Rare Case Presentation and Literature Review
HIV-1 infection treatment has greatly improved with the availability of combined antiretroviral therapy (cART). Unlike Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, Tenofovir Alafenamide has a more favourable renal profile, even if proximal tubulopathy and electrolyte disturbances have been reported. As earlier as 4000 years ago, liquorice root was used for some medical treatments. Excessive liquorice intake is described to cause a state of mineralocorticoid excess. However, liquorice-induced hypokalaemia usually occurs with mild clinical manifestations and a severe presentation is rare.
Incidence of Dental Anomalies in Cleft Lip and Palate Cases among Libyan Population
To evaluate the prevalence of dental anomalies in the individuals with cleft lip and palate as well as to assess the incidence of differences among unilateral cleft lip and palate and bilateral cleft lip and palate subjects in terms of dental anomalies and sexual dimorphism.
Pilonidal Sinus, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Negative Pressure dressing will be Appropriate
Chronic pilonidal sinus disease, an acquired benign affliction too many across the globe but in the very few follows through to malignant transformation. We report an unusual case of a large squamous cell carcinoma arising from a chronic pilonidal sinus, its successful surgical excision and detailed documentation of wound healing with the assistance of a negative pressure wound therapy dressing. For large sacrococcygeal wounds we evidence that secondary intention healing via NPWT is a valid initial alternative to reconstructive surgery with a good cosmetic outcome and the option for early ambulation.
