Analysis on Clinical Features and Risk Factors of Death in Yunnan with Acute Mushroom Poisoning
Mushroom poisoning has become a global public health problem. However, effective treatment of toadstool poisoning and risk factors evaluation are a trouble for clinicians. A total of 137 mushroom poisoning cases were reported, of which 70 (52%) were female. Mortality was 13.1% (18). A latency of ≥6 h was seen in 87 cases (63.50%), with a mortality of 89% (16). Direct bilirubin (DB) ≥34.2 μmol/L was seen in 16 patients, and 124 cases (90.0%) occurred from June to August (summer).
Establishing a Special Open Field Test Appliance for Tree Shrews Evaluates their Stressed Locomotor Behavior
It has a great significance to establish a high repetitive and special system to evaluate locomotion for tree shrew animal models,
especially neuropsychiatric models. Thus, we designed a special open field test appliance for tree shrews by using a polymer PMMA
board (plexiglass). The locomotion of naïve tree shrews was detected twice in it. By using Any-maze Software tracing the motion
trajectory, we found that the motion trajectory and the distance were very similar in both tests. It demonstrated that the appliance
designed for tree shrews had extremely high reliability and stability.
Veterinary Considerations for the Theoretical Resurrection of Extinct Species
The de-extinction of the dinosaur is a dubious possibility but its consideration brings forth some issues that are at least worthy of scientific discussion. In this review, we discuss two distinct issues that have implications for a de-extinct species such as a dinosaur: the ability, or lack thereof, to safely sedate a rare and potentially fractious animal capable of harming the veterinary staff tasked with its care; and, disease risks associated with a species that has been extinct for millions of years. To identify potential sedatives, comparative pharmacology will be needed to uncover the links between receptor pharmacology and the desired clinical outcomes of activating established alpha-2 adrenergic, opioid, and benzodiazepine receptors. Specific to disease control, it will be necessary to understand the unique susceptibility of the new species to current diseases as well as predicting their reservoir capacity for potential human and veterinary pandemic diseases. While the topics presented herein are not exhaustive, this review highlights some of the foremost research that should be conducted in order to serve the unique veterinary needs of a de-extinct species using the dinosaur as a paradigm. Addressing these issues should be considered if an intact dinosaur genome becomes available, regardless of the feasibility of dinosaur resurrection.
The Quality Changes of Frozen and Dried Tiny Shrimp (Macrobrachium nipponense) Meat during Six Months Storage
In this study, Macrobrachium nipponense tiny shrimp meats using two methods of drying and freezing along with metalized polyethylene pouches were kept for 6 months. Then their chemical properties (proximate composition, thiobarbituric acid (TBARS), peroxide value (PV), total volatile nitrogen (TVB-N) and free fatty acids (FFA)), microbial (total bacteria count) and sensory (odor, flavor, and color) analyses were evaluated.
Association between Insertion/Deletion Polymorphism of ApoB Gene with Dyslipidemia and Obesity Risk in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Several studies have suggested that Insertion/Deletion polymorphism of ApoB gene is associated with obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes and coronary heart disease (CHD).
Serum Haptoglobin Responses following Rumenotomy in the Sahel Goat
Fifteen Sahel goats were randomly allocated into three groups A, B and C to evaluate Serum Haptoglobin (Hp) profiles following rumenotomy as markers of surgical stress using Quantitative ELISA.
Healthy and Unhealthy Dietary Patterns are related to Lipid Parameters in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
The effects of a single food or nutrient on disease may be insufficient and poor, but the cumulative effect is detectable. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and lipid parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Evaluation of The Immunomodulatory In Vivo Activity of Laminaria Hyperborea Fucoidan Relative to Commercial (1,3/1,6)-Β-D-Glucans from Yeast and Mushrooms
A fucoidan with high ester sulfate content (38-40% by weight) has been isolated in a commercial scale process from Laminaria hyperborea harvested from the western coast of Norway. This is the first characterization of a fucoidan from this species of macroalgae. Ultra purified samples with negligible endotoxin levels were evaluated for cytokine expression in cultured human mononuclear cells.
