Incessant Supraventricular Tachycardia in a Newborn Treated with Combined Antiarrhythmic Drug Therapy

Supraventricular tachycardia is the most common type of tachyarrhythmia seen in childhood. First-line treatments (adenosine, esmolol-propranolol, digoxin, electrical cardioversion) usually suppress tachycardia, but rarely tachycardia is resistant and requiring Class IC and/or Class III agents, such as amiodarone, sotalol, propafenone, and flecainide.

Oxidative stress associated with bacterial infections, are recognized as being a key factor in the appearance and complications of many chronic pathologies. To help overcome these difficulties, herbal remedies are one of the alternatives for the development of traditionally improved drugs. The objective of this work is to evaluate the antiradical and antibacterial activities of the ethanolic extract of the bark of the trunk of Terminalia avicennioides. A Review: State of Plastic Pollution in Nigeria and Measure to Tackle Them

Marine organisms, scientists, governmental and non-governmental organizations face a significant challenge as a result of the ubiquitousness of plastic and microplastics in the aquatic environment, particularly in Nigeria where there is little or no policy put in place to address the issue of microplastic pollution. Nigeria ranks ninth globally in terms of its contribution to ocean plastic pollution and currently does not have a federal ban on the majority of single-use plastics and equipment. This paper aimed to present the status of plastic pollution in Nigeria and some policies to curb the menace. Data analysis reveals that Bayesa, Katsina, Lagos, and Oyo are the four states that generate the majority of the plastic waste in Nigeria. The number of industries, markets, and urbanization in a location affect the quantity of plastic waste that is produced there and is not dependent on the population. This paper makes some policy suggestions and recommendations such as the federal prohibition and taxation on the use of plastic, ocean clean-up, technological innovation that will support the recycling industry in Nigeria, and the need for additional plastic research. Nigeria can apply the most recent plastic waste management strategies in European and Asian nations as a model and adopt them to reduce marine plastic pollution.

Benefits and Health Risks Associated with Energy Booster Drinks: A Review Study

There are several energy drinks available in the market such as Red Bull, Sting, Rebound, Power Up! Triple X Energy Drink, and so on. After the Red Bull drink was introduced in the market in1990s, Energy drinks started to gain popularity and afterwards it became a common name especially among teenagers and young adults [1]. Most energy drinks are caffeinated nonindulgent beverages that are professed to give an additional increase in energy for day-by-day work, increase alertness, and improve athletic performance and mood. There are even certain shreds of evidence present to substantiate these claims, but the effects of these drinks on mental and physical health cannot be neglected. There are reports of adverse events such as insomnia, anxiety, cardiovascular events, seizures, tachycardia, type-2 diabetes, and even death are associated with the consumption of these drinks [2]. This review will focus on energy drinks, their ingredients, health risks associated with these drinks, and will also suggest some recommendations such as changes in marketing, providing education to children regarding adverse effects of these drinks, and further research should be carried out in this domain.

Close Packing of Elements of Transparent Metamaterials in UVC Diapason and its Influence on The Decontamination Efficiency

A new method for repacking optical metamaterials formed from fiber or spherical elements of various diameters is proposed for ultraviolet C (UVC) decontamination of infected liquids that flow between these elements. It is proposed the method of repacking of metamaterial formed from closed packing big fibers/spheres with other subsystems of thin fibers/ bubbles replaced in the free space between the first packing fibers/spheres.

Contact Angle Influence on Defects in Graphene Prepared by Segregation Method on Treated SiO2 /Si Substrates

SiO2/Si substrates were modified by physical and chemical treatments in order to improve adhesion and homogeneity of segregated graphene. The objective of this work was to decrease defects concentration in graphene crystallites in segregated graphene. It was done by chemical and physical treatment of the SiO2 substrate prior to deposition of catalytic nickel layer.

A Case with Vitreomacular Traction Developing Complications after Intravitreal Perfluoropropane Injection

A sixty-year-old woman with no remarkable systemic disease came to our clinic due to blurred vision of right eye for one month. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.2 in the right eye, while intraocular pressure, anterior segment, and optic disc of right eye were all normal. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was arranged, which showed VMT in right eye.

The Influence of Sodium on the Characterization of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Thin Films Prepared by Three-Stage Deposition Process

The objective of this work is to investigate the influence of sodium on the characteristics of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) thin films prepared by a three-stage deposition process with a MoNa back contact, in comparison to Mo/SLG. The XRD results show that all the CIGS thin films deposited onto Mo/SLG substrates have the (112) preferred orientation, rather than the (220/204) orientation of CIGS deposited onto Na-free substrates.

Complex Assessment of Combat Neurotrauma

This study explores the patterns of twelve male OIF-OEF combat veterans with the Tactual Performance Test (TPT) in cases of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and blast-related mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or with PTSD only. 6 were dual diagnosed with PTSD+mTBI and 6 with PTSD-o. Last deployment ranged from 10 to 3.5 years.
