Case Report: Pyoderma Gangrenosum in IBD Treated with Tofacitinib
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare ulcerating skin disease often presenting as an extra intestinal manifestation of IBD and is
difficult to manage. Treatment options for pyoderma gangrenosum include steroids, calcineurin inhibitors and anti TNF
agents. Here in, we report a case of recurrent Pyoderma gangrenosum with Ulcerative Colitis that was successfully managed
with Tofacintib, a JAK inhibitor
Standardization of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines (IL-1 & TNF-α) and Haematological Biomarker as an Early Assessment of Health Status in Adult Healthy Pigs
The study was aimed to standardize pro-inflammatory cytokines and haematological biomarker level in visually adult healthy swine as an early health check-up scanner. In the present study, total six (6) crossbreed pigs (Yorkshire × Swedish Landrace) with similar age group (3 years) and unisex (male) with average body wt (140 kg) were selected for sampling.
Selected Compounds Modulate Various Inflammatory Biomarkers in Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Macrophages of PPAR-α Knockout Mice
Inflammation has been implicated in cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We have recently screened several
compounds that modulate inflammatory biomarkers (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and nitric oxide) in response to a variety of stimuli. Our
hypothesis is that compounds with those anti-inflammatory properties will be useful for treatment of diabetes, cardiovascular disease,
and other diseases based on inflammation.
Human Neutrophils in Patients with Positive Serology for Chagas Disease
Polymorphonuclear (PMN) neutrophil leukocytes are cells of innate immunity recognized in a peripheral blood smear because of their particular multilobed nucleus. Ring shaped nucleous are typical in rats and mice, being described in some pathologies in humans as well as in healthy subjects.
Profile of Cytokines (IL-1β, TNF- α and IL-10) in Eyelid Tumors
Tissue cytokine levels (IL-1β, TNF-α and IL-10) have been utilized for screening, diagnosis, prognostication and treatment of tumors. The current study, therefore, purports to measure the levels of common cancer associated cytokines in histopathologically confirmed tissue samples of eyelid tumors.
Canakinumab in the Treatment of Erosive Hand Osteoarthritis: A Case Series
Erosive hand Osteoarthritis (EOA) is a common and debilitating form of hand OA for which there are no proven or efficacious therapies. Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) plays a prominent role in OA joint inflammation. Canakinumab is a selective IL-1β inhibitor.
Immunosenescence in Humans: Changes to the Aged T Lymphocyte Population in Response to Persistent Cytomegalovirus Infection
Immunosenescence describes the decrease in immune function with advancing age, a phenomenon that is associated with changes in the B and T lymphocyte populations. CD8+ T cells display the most dramatic phenotypical and functional changes within the T cell compartment whereby the cohorts of effector and memory T cells expand while the total population and diversity of naive T cells both decline.
Do Expression Profiles of Cytokines VEGF, TNF- α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8 Correlate with Gallbladder Cancer?
Gallbladder carcinoma is a multifactorial disease with a complex interplay at molecular levels. Here we look at the expression of specific cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8 and VEGF) in GBC patients to develop them as biomarkers of gallbladder cancer.
Beta (1-3)(1-6)-D-glucan with strong effects on immune status in chicken: potential importance for efficiency of commercial farming
In face of the challenge of the emergent new diseases and the current efforts of the governments to ban growth-promoting antibiotics and to improve conditions and overall health of the farmed animals, new opportunities are created for natural, highly effective, cost affordable immunomodulators.
Nutritional Aspects in Heart Failure
Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome, of a progressive character, that has a limited prognostic factor and manifested by various extracardiac aspects. It represents a serious and growing public health problem worldwide, both for its high prevalence and the severity of its clinical manifestations, being the final common pathway of most diseases. Undernutrition is often associated with HF, especially in the later stages of the disease, and may chronically reach cardiac cachexia, a severe manifestation related to poor clinical prognosis.
Pharmacy Compounding Quality Control and Pharmaceutical Development Strategies for Seventeen alpha Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate in Prevention of Preterm Delivery
Seventeen alpha hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17-OHPC) is the only FDA-approved drug labeled for prevention of preterm delivery. This drug is also available as a compounded product from licensed compounding pharmacies. This article reviews the FDA approval history and pharmacy compounding quality control data of 17-OHPC, as well as briefly discusses possible future pharmaceutical development strategies for 17-OHPC.
New Adipocytokines
They are cytokines secreted by adipose tissue considered to be immunomodulating agents, however they can be more accurately put into the larger, growing list of adipose-derived hormones.
