Introduction: Studies from several countries have shown that there is a lack of knowledge related to child protection among dentists and their teams. So far, there are no data available about the situation in Germany. Aim of this study is to describe the perception of the role of German dentists in terms of child abuse and neglect. Material and Methods: A questionnaire previously used by other studies regarding the role of dentists in child protection was adapted to German terminology and provided online. The internet address has been shown in different German dentists’ association journals addressing dentists only. The participation was voluntary. Results: A total of 251 (79.68%) dentists completed the questionnaire with valid data, 62.5% reported to have had a sus- picion of child abuse or neglect. Of these, 21,7% had reported their suspicion to the social services. Dentists specialized in pediatric dentistry reported their suspicion more often. Most frequently reported barriers towards contacting social services were uncertainty about diagnosis, fear of violence towards the child and the lack of knowledge in terms of referral procedures. Most of the participants expressed a need for further education. Conclusion: Dentists in Germany are not able to fill their role in child protection matters sufficiently and show a need for undergraduate and continuing postgraduate training.

There is a proliferation of particulate matter in the atmosphere within and around the cities because of increased industrial activities. It is thus hypothesized that increase in human activities lead to increase in pollutants concentration inside (n=80 houses sampled) and outside residential areas. Thus, to investigate the air quality at different residential areas within indoor and outdoor environment air samples were collected using Particle Counter (Model: HHPC MET), and Gas Monitor (Aeroqual series 500) to determine particulate matters (i.e., PM10, and PM2,5), volatile organic carbon (VOC) and total solid particle (TSP).

Melanoma is one of the most fatal disorders dermatologists have to diagnose and treat. Despite its prevalence and seriousness, there has been no protocol with consensus suggesting systematic approach for diagnosis and treatment of pigmented lesions. A series of 141 melanomas diagnosed and managed over five years in an Australian dermatology clinicare presented. Also a systematic approach has been suggested for the management of suspicious pigmented lesions and melanomas. It is hoped that this paper provides a platform to open discussion for the development of the best systematic approach.

From Jan –2004 to Dec-2004, five patients were referred to the surgical department with a diagnosis of endocarditis refractory to medical therapy. Patients were all male, age ranging 16 years to 28 years with a mean of 22 years. All of the five patients had native valve endocarditis of the tricuspid valve with a history of drug addiction in common. Their presentations included, sepsis, failure and recurrent pulmonary embolism. Three of them had bacterial, while two had fungal infection which was proven after blood cultures. After resuscitation, stabilization and preoperative workup, tricuspid valvectomy was performed on these patients because of the destructive and irreparable nature of the native valve. Fortunately, all had uneventful recovery after surgery. Pre-operatively these patients were treated with antibiotics and antifungals, and continued thereafter for almost 4 to 6 weeks in the post-operative period. Postoperatively there was significant tricuspid regurgitation in a subset of patients who had a follow-up. The Left Ventricular (LV) function remained normal to moderate with a moderate pulmonary artery pressure. These patients were discharged on antibiotics and anti-failure medications as per the GDMT.

Neonatal management of severe quadricuspid truncal valve insufficiency is very challenging with high risk of postoperative mortality. Aortic valve reconstruction is the unique rescue and should be consider and previously planned in case of truncal valvuloplasty failure. Many extracardiac malformations can be associated with truncus arteriosus, therefore a cardiac and chest computed tomography scan must be performed before the elective surgical repair.

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a serious infectious disease that carries a high mortality rate. We report the case of 74-year-old female who is a chronic hemodialysis patient, and was presented with tricuspid valve endocarditis (TVIE) with central venous catheter, due to an Enterobacter Cloacae, which is a non-HACEK Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) and has been reported to be an extremely rare pathogen of IE. The patient was treated with imipenem and teicoplanin for a four-week period, with negative Blood culture and normal C reactive protein (CRP) levels at the end. The aim of our study is to understand the pathophysiology of the IE in chronic renal failure (CRF) especially at the tricuspid valve (TV), and to determine the clinical, biological characteristics and therapeutic modalities.

Over the course of several years, three members of a Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) group showed periodical bouts of pruritus and dermatological lesions. The affected animals were a 25-year-old cow and her 5 and 7-year-old offspring, all housed in a mixed indoor/outdoor facility. The signs were first noted in 2005 and escalated over time until 2012, when a final diagnosis of the problem was attempted. Diagnostic tests included blood analysis and skin biopsies, swab microbiological cultures from the wheals, intradermal tests and response to treatment with corticosteroids. Clinical picture and histopathological findings, as well as response to methylprednisolone, were considered compatible with an allergic dermatitis.

Clavicle fractures are common injuries in young adults and children, and diagnosis can often be made based on history and physical exam. Treatment decisions vary according to the fracture’s location and multiple classification schemes have been devised to describe fracture patterns. The Allman model is the most widely used, which Dr. Neer subsequently revised to further delineate distal clavicle patterns. This article will illustrate the anatomy of the clavicle, its attachments and clinically relevant injury patterns. It is imperative to accurately classify these injuries as clinical outcomes and management options vary according to their morphology.
