Immunodepletion of Multiple High-Abundant Proteins from Bovine Fluids

Immunodepletion of high-abundant proteins (HAPs) aids in the identification and analysis of low-abundant proteins (LAPs) in complex samples. Currently, immunodepletion methods for bovine samples are very limited whereas greater availability exists for human and murine animal samples. In this study, we report the simultaneous depletion of HAPs from bovine samples using an immunoaffinity depletion cartridge (the multiple affinity removal system, MARS) designed to target six human HAPs, while such a depletion kit for bovine samples is not available.

Assessment of Blood Concentration of Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) in Healthy Calves and Stocker Calves Effected with Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex

Bovine respiratory disease complex remains one of the most economically important diseases of stocker cattle. Reports of myocardial injury associated with BRDC have been limited to necropsy findings. An animal-side diagnostic test for cardiac troponin I (cTnI) has been validated for use in cattle. The objective of this study was to determine the association of blood concentration of cTnI and pneumonia in stocker cattle. A proof-of-concept study was conducted using 16 calves (7 healthy; 9 BRDC).

Influence of Maternal Nutritional Factors on Ovarian Folliculogenesis in Cattle

Assisted reproductive technologies, such as artificial insemination and embryo transfer, have produced significant outcomes in cattle. These technologies are useful not only for improving fertility but also for increasing the rate of genetic change in beef and dairy livestock. Today, embryo transfer in cattle is both practical and commercially viable. Benefits and Constraints of Vitrification Technologies for Cryopreservation of Bovine In Vitro Fertilized Embryos

Cryopreservation is the use of ultra-low temperatures to preserve whole living cells and tissues in order to retain their structural integrity and maintain their physiological viability. It enables long term storage of cells in order to circumvent the need for continuous in vitro culture. When cryopreserving bovine embryos there are two means of cryopreservation: slow programmable freezing and vitrification. While controlled-rate and slow freezing can be applied widely to in vivo derived-embryos, this methodology remains less successful for embryos produced in vitro.

Targeted Approach for Prostate Cancer Treatment: Synthesis and Characterization of Docetaxel-Loaded Perfluorocarbon Nanodroplets

The purpose of this study is to synthesize and characterize nanodroplets, loaded with docetaxel for treatment of prostate cancer under MR-guided focused ultrasound. Water insoluble docetaxel encapsulated in nanodroplets is expected to be delivered into tumors with greater efficiency while minimizing drug related systemic toxicities when used in combination with focused ultrasound. The sequence of our studies toward development and characterization of docetaxel-loaded nanodroplets is as follows. First, we developed methods for synthesis of ultrasound-responsive, docetaxel-loaded nanodroplets (Doc-nd) by a solid dispersion technique. Secondly, we characterized Doc-nd by its morphology and size distributions using a dynamic light scattering (DLS) method.
