Interleukins Indicators Impacting the Outcomes of Ischemic Stroke
A prospective clinical cohort study covers 108 IS patients. 93 (86,1%) patients were released from the hospital with
improvements, but 15 (13,9%) patients did not survive. The study was carried out in the most acute (1st day of hospitalization) and acute (7 days
of hospitalization) phases of the IS. The level of interleukins in blood serum was defined by enzyme immunoassay method.
Clinical Features and Management of Eosinophilic Asthma
Asthma is a common chronic airway disease affecting about 334 million people worldwide, and an estimated 7 million children
globally. Approximately 10% of patients with asthma have severe refractory disease, which is uncontrolled despite using high doses
of inhaled corticosteroids and other modifiers. Among these patients are patients with eosinophilic asthma. Eosinophilic asthma is a
phenotype of asthma that is usually very severe and persistent, with frequent exacerbations. It is characterized by the presence of high
levels of eosinophils, and CD+4 Th2 cells in the lungs and airways. Eosinophils play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and severity
of asthma. Most patients with eosinophilic asthma respond to the classic stepwise guided treatment. However, 50% of patients with
eosinophilic asthma are refractory to corticosteroids and long-acting β2-agonists. Currently, there are targeted personalized biologics
for these patients. These biotherapeutics include IgE, interleukin and interleukin receptor monoclonal antibodies,they have added
advantageous steroid-sparing effects.
Evaluating the Effect of Oprelvekin on Cardiac Repolarization in Subjects with Chemotherapy-Induced Thrombocytopenia: An Observational Chart Review of a Phase 2 Clinical Trial in Laredo, Texas
This study tested for the cardiac effects of Oprelvekin, recombinant human interleukin-11, a thrombopoietic growth factor, in patients afflicted with chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (platelet count<50,000 cells/ul). Chart-reviews of patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria of: 18-75 yrs of age, non-myeloid malignancy, with adequate hematologic, hepatic and renal parameters and normal electrocardiograms that were enrolled in this phase 2 trial were analyzed. Patients of child-bearing potential agreed to be on a reliable form of birth control for the duration of the study. Results on 4 patients suggest that Oprelvekin does not cause atrial nor ventricular arrhythmia, a rare severe cardiac side effect, in treating patients with chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia.

Evaluation of The Immunomodulatory In Vivo Activity of Laminaria Hyperborea Fucoidan Relative to Commercial (1,3/1,6)-Β-D-Glucans from Yeast and Mushrooms
A fucoidan with high ester sulfate content (38-40% by weight) has been isolated in a commercial scale process from Laminaria hyperborea harvested from the western coast of Norway. This is the first characterization of a fucoidan from this species of macroalgae. Ultra purified samples with negligible endotoxin levels were evaluated for cytokine expression in cultured human mononuclear cells.
