Effects of High-Intensity Circuit Training on Body Composition and Selected Cardiovascular Parameters in Overweight and Obese Children Aged 9-12

The problem of excess body weight is becoming an epidemic in the general population, especially among children aged to 12 years old. Efforts are being made to find a way to retreat the unfavorable changes related with obesity. This problem is escalating, and the direction of effective protective actions is not sufficiently recognized. The research presented in this study demonstrate the range of changes in overweight and obese children after an 8 weeks of circuit training program, with simultaneous parental education on modifying their children dietary habits

Italian Survey on Perception of Obesity and Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery: A Comparison between General Practitioners and Obese Patients

Obesity is a pandemic, chronic and relapsing disease with several treatment options. The aim of this work was to investigate the level of awareness that people with obesity (PwO) have of their own condition and the level of knowledge regarding possible treatments available. To compare and contrast collected data on PwO with data obtained from general practitioners (GPs)

Effect of 4-h Time Restricted Feeding on Body Weight, Leptin Concentration and Lipid Profile in Healthy Non-Obese Male Wistar Rats

Obesity greatly increases the risk of metabolic diseases and preventive approaches for obesity are often insufficient to effectively prevent the diseases. Altering feeding time strategy intervention decreases caloric intake without calorie counting and may be an effective therapy. Therefore, this study investigates the effect of 4-h time restricted feeding on body weight, leptin concentration and lipid profile in healthy non-obese male Wistar rats.

Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) in Healthy Obese Adults

It was a cross-sectional study including 434 apparently healthy subjects (194 males) divided into two groups: i) obese (BMI ≥ 30 Kg/m²) and ii) non-obese (BMI < 30 Kg/m²). Exclusion criteria were: current smokers, asthma, medicine intake interfering with FeNO levels, and abnormal lung function tests. The FeNO measurements were performed before spirometry. Student t test was performed to compare between the two groups. The Spearman correlation between BMI and FeNO levels was evaluated. The Piecewise linear regression with breakpoint was assessed to define the breakpoint of inflammation related to obesity.

Ketogenic Diet Versus a Standard Low-Calorie Diet to Treat Mildly Obese Patients in an Outpatient Clinic: An Observational Retrospective Study

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a Very Low-Calorie Ketogenic Diet (VLCKD) compared to a LowCalorie Diet (LCD) in the treatment of mildly obese patients. We aimed to highlight the difference in weight loss, compliance, physical activity levels and drop-out rates between the VLCKD group and the standard LCD one.

Metabolic Effects of an Inositol-Resveratrol Nutraceutical Combination in Non-Diabetic Overweight/Obese Subjects with Altered Glucose Tolerance

Insulin resistance (IR) is almost constistently associated with overweight or obesity in both diabetic and non-diabetic subjects. Nutraceutical compounds improving insulin resistance (IR) may be useful in prevention and treatment of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in metabolic diseases.

Selenium Supplementation in Obese Patients with Subclinical Hypothyroidism and Type 2 Diabetes

Selenium (Se) is a trace element present in many foods. Selenium-protein co-factor plays a critical anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory role in thyroid function, but quite recently its ability to prevent adipocyte hypertrophy and adipogenesis has also been evaluated. The aim of our study was to assess whether thyroid function, as well as, body mass index (BMI) and body composition might improve in Se-treated obese patients as compared to those getting placebo (P).

Stress-Induced Laboratory Eating Behavior in Obese and Normal-Weight Women

Inconsistent results of stress induced eating behavior in obesity have been reported. In order to describe the effect of stress on eating behavior in detail, we investigated microstructural aspects of food intake in a controlled laboratory experiment. Eating behavior of 43 obese women and 42 normal weight controls between 18 and 30 years was assessed twice (one time after participating in the Trier Social Stress Test and one time after a control session). A universal eating monitor was used to obtain cumulative intake curves with pudding as laboratory food. Compared to controls, obese showed inhibited eating behavior after stress. The results are interpreted and discussed with regard to restrained eating.

Case Report: Are We Prepared to Manage Acute Abdomen in the Super-Obese Patient?

A 55 year-old man with signs and symptoms of severe sepsis was admitted to the emergency department. He is severely obese with a BMI of 80 Kg/ m2 and a medical history of hypertension and arrhythmia. The abdominal pain was non-specific and the physical examination was impaired by obesity. Ultrasonography (US) was ineffective and no computed tomography (CT) scan was available for a patient of his weight. The acute abdomen presented an inflammatory etiology. The patient underwent laparoscopy and severe cholecystitis was diagnosed and treated. The patient recovered well, and remained for 36h in the intensive care unit and 5 days in the surgical ward.

Hemodynamic and Autonomic Reactivity to Mental and Physical Stress in Lean, Overweight and Obese Subjects

There could be progressive changes in hemodynamic and autonomic parameters causing cardiovascular damage from lean to morbid obesity. We aim to study resting and reactivity of hemodynamic and autonomic parameters to physical and mental stress in lean, overweight and obese subjects of the Oman Family Study (OFS).
