New Forensic Protocol in the Era of SARS-CoV-2
During the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic in Italy, even though many people died due to virus-induced complications, there was a warm advice from the government against performing body autopsies, instigating their incineration. It was a reckless decision, leaving clinicians and scientists empty handed when it comes to studying infection-induced tissue changes and subsequent organ failures, making it more difficulties in finding a better clinical solution for combating the virus.
Pathology of Non-Fatal Asphyxia and the Risk of Fatal Outcome in the Context of Intimate Partner Violence
The victims of intimate partner violence are subjected to emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse. The physical abuse often includes episodes of mechanical asphyxia and its most frequent mechanisms: throttling and strangulation. Non-fatal asphyxia situations have signs, symptoms and short-term or long-term consequences whose severity varies according to the intensity, duration and number of episodes.
Pathology of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: A Multifactorial Disorder. Review of the Literature
A glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, which is vital to good vision and if not detected early eventually
leads to irreversible blindness. Primary open-angle glaucoma the most common type of glaucoma which occurs due to an imbalance
of the eye liquid drainage and production. Although, Primary open-angle glaucoma’s optic neuropathic nature which features retinal
ganglionic cell loss representing the most prevalent form of glaucoma, its exact a etiology and pathogenesis are unknown.
Role of Serology and Histopathology in Diagnostic of Human Cystic Echinococcosis
Hydatid disease is an important emerging neglected disease worldwide, with significant geographic variation in seroprevalance. The disease is commonly diagnosed on basis of clinical suspicion, imaging and serology. This study was conducted to evaluate our experience with serology in diagnosing hydatid disease in terms of identifying the numbers of patients testing positive for antibodies against Echinococcus, and to study their clinical profile.
Effect of Methanolic Leaf Extract of Lannea Schimperi on Some Organs Histopathology in Experimentally Induced Coccidiosis in Broiler Chickens
The most pathogenic species of Eimeria that infect chickens is Eimeria tenella. It is a major cause of coccidiosis, a self-limiting infectious disease of the digestive tract of chickens. In view of the resistance to the conventional anticoccidial drugs used in poultry, herbal extracts are often considered as safe alternatives. The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of methanolic leaf extract of Lannea schimperi on histopathological changes in the intestines, liver and kidneys of chicken infected with Eimeria tenella. Seven groups of 4 broilers chickens were used for the experiment.
Induce Hyperlipidemia in Rats Using High Fat Diet Investigating Blood Lipid and Histopathology
The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of induced hyperlipidemia in SD rats fed with high fat diet (HFD) for 7 weeks on blood lipid profile and possible pathological changes in liver, stomach, intestine, heart, spleen, lung and kidney. There were significant differences in most rats which induced hyperlipidemia throughout the experimental period with the blood lipid levels and histopathology.
The Impact of Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy in Lewy Body Dementia: A Neuropathological Study with Magnetic Resonance Imaging Correlations
Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is frequently associated to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) but can also occur in Lewy body dementia (LBD). The present post-mortem study compares the incidence and the topographic distribution of small cerebrovascular lesions in LBD brains without and with severe CAA (LBD-CAA).
Trends in Thyroid Malignancies in Accra Ghana: A Retrospective Histopathological Review in the Department of Pathology (1994-2013), Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital
Malignancies of the thyroid gland are common in certain parts of the world. In Ghana there are no available data on the trends and gender characteristics of thyroid malignancies (TMs). The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the trends and gender characteristics of TMs in the Department of Pathology.
Prevention and Treatment of Esophageal Cancer in China: Achievements and Challenges-Prevention is the Key
Background: The study investigated esophageal cancer etiology and pathology, along with problems associated with surgical treatments. Keywords: Esophageal cancer; Mortality; Etiology; Pathology; Treatment; 5-year survivalIntroduction
Methods: Data from the National Cancer Prevention and Control Office and the National Cancer Registry Center (2012) were assessed for information regarding malignant tumor incidence. These data were also used to conduct a mortality analysis and investigate death records pertaining to esophageal cancer patients. We extracted crude and age-specific mortality data and proportional mortality ratios as well as standard mortality data for Chinese and world populations. Esophageal cancer mortality was compared with death statistical data and literature related to esophageal cancer was collected from the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database and the Chinese Journal Network.
Group Psychotherapy with Ethnoracially Diverse OEF/OIF/OND Veterans Presenting with Comorbid Psychopathology: A Transdiagnostic Clinical Forensic Paradigm
The comorbid psychopathology that is well-established in ethnoracially diverse OEF/OIF/OND veterans also often coincides with other problems (e.g., legal and social). To mitigate the clinical side of these types of difficulties, the Veteran Administration Health Care Systems offers a wide range of mental health services. This article draws on an evidenced-based literature review to explore factors that are relative to delivering group psychotherapy in light of the entwined clinical and forensic matters sometimes confronting diverse veterans.
Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor: Case Report
Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor (AOT) is a benign tumor, most common in the maxilla, characterized by slow, progressive, painless growth of firm consistency, the size of which usually does not reach large proportions.
Gastroesophageal Cancer: Prognostic Factors and Treatment Results
The study presents the remote results of surgical treatment of 329 patients with cancer of gastroesophageal localization. Three 3-year survival rate is 37.1%, the 5-year survival rate is 26.2%. Prognosis after the surgery depends primarily on the extent of the tumour spread.
Association between Delay in Surgical Treatment and Perforation in Acute Appendicitis
Acute appendicitis is a prevalent emergency surgical pathology and without prompt intervention may lead to gangrene, perforation and death. Increased mortality and morbidity will increase the hospital stay and the costs. We aimed to see the association between surgical treatment and perforation.
Hirschsprung’s Disease in Adult Treated by Coloprotectomy and Colo-Anal Anastomosis
Hirschsprung’s disease is a rare pathology Most cases become manifest during the neonatal period, but in rare instances, the disease is initially diagnosed in adult patients.
An Early Description of Carcinosarcoma in 1883
