Formulation and Evaluation of Clindamycin Peel-Off Gel Face Mask against Acne Vulgaris

The main aim of this project is to formulate and evaluate Clindamycin peel-off gel face mask against Acne vulgaris. Peel off gel mask of Clindamycin phosphate was formulated using different excipients like Triethanolamine, Carbopol, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Glycerine, Xanthan gum, and Benzyl alcohol. Formulation of different composition of polymer was formulated and their pH, extrudability, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity, washability and other parameters like drug content, permeability and drug release were evaluated. The result showed that the concentration of PVA and Carbopol which are the main polymers used in the formulations had effect on the drug content, drug release, permeability, spreadability and other parameters. The peel off mask prepared by using different concentration of these two polymers showed satisfactory result in all the evaluated parameters.

A Rare Case of Albrights Hereditary Osteodystrophy presenting as Recurrent Hypocalcemic Tetany

An internist with an eagle’s eye can diagnose many hidden diseases through careful examination. One such hereditary metabolic disorder is Albright’s Hereditary Osteodystrophy (AHO). Characteristic presentations in an individual affected by AHO were short stature, obesity, mild mental retardation and brachydactyly especially of 4th and 5th digits, which are the phenotypic features of genetic mutation. Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP) is characterized by inability of the body to respond appropriately to parathormone, mainly characterized by hypocalcaemia, increased serum parathormone concentration, insensitivity to the biological activity of parathormone and hyperphosphatemia. Optimization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa for Chlorpyrifos Degradation using Response Surface Methodology

Preparation and Performance Analysis of High Temperature Resistant and High Strength Alcohol Soluble Phosphate/Phenolic Hybrid Adhesive

A kind of alcohol-soluble phosphate adhesive was prepared by using phosphate solution as raw material. A hybrid high temperature and high strength adhesive was prepared by adding phenolic resin. The wetting condition of water-soluble and alcohol-soluble phosphate adhesive on the surface of hydrophobic material, the composition and mechanical properties of the adhesive were analyzed by means of liquid drop shape analyzer (DSA), X-ray diffraction instrument and universal tensile force machine. The results show that the alcohol-soluble phosphate adhesive has good wetting effect on hydrophobic materials and has excellent high temperature resistance and mechanical properties.

Novel Multi-Functional Dental Cement for Enamel Remineralization and AntiCariogenic Bacteria Activity

This experimental study evaluated the release of fluoride and several minerals related to remineralization from novel functional cement, apatite ionomer cement (AIC), and its anti-bacterial properties compared with glass ionomer cement (GIC) and surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer filler containing composite resin (giomer). Conventional GIC (Fuji III, GC Co., Tokyo, Japan) was used as the control and fundamental materials. In the AIC powder, 28% wt of GIC powder was replaced with spherical-shaped hydroxyapatite powder. The giomer, BeautiSealant (Shofu Co., Kyoto, Japan), was used as a positive control. Each specimen was immersed in deionized water and analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (for Al, Si, P, Ca and Sr) and a fluoride-selective electrode. Antibacterial activity against Streptococccus mutans was evaluated using the adenosine-5’-triphosphate luminescence method. Concentrations of released ions from AIC specimens were significantly higher than those from GIC and giomer specimens. Regarding antibacterial activity, luminescence intensity of the AIC group was significantly lower than that of the control and giomer groups. It was concluded that AIC could be a most suitable material for pit and fissure sealant for enamel remineralization and anti-cariogenic and -bacterial activity.

Biological Availability of Phosphorus in Raw and Acidulated Sinda and Chilembwe Rock Phosphates in Broiler Chickens

A 14 day broiler chickens feeding trial was conducted to determine bio-availability and relative biological values (RBV) of phosphorus in raw and acidulated local rock phosphates (RPs) as potential replacements for imported and more expensive di-calcium phosphate (DCP). Treatments included Raw, Sulphuric acid and Phosphoric acid acidulated Sinda and Chilembwe RPs. Bio-availability was assessed based on feed intake, body weight gains, feed conversion ratios, phosphorus retention and mineralization of tibia bones and blood serum. RBVs were calculated on the same parameters using DCP as a reference standard. Phosphorus contents in local RPs were significantly (P ≥ 0.05) lower than in DCP, but acidulating RPs with Phosphoric acid significantly increased phosphorus, but reduced calcium contents. Other minerals were comparable with what was in DCP. Acidulating RPs significantly (P ≥ 0.05) increased body weight gains and feed conversion ratios, but not feed intake. Phosphorus retentions, weights and ash contents of tibia bones were significantly (P ≥ 0.05) lower in chickens fed diets based on raw than that of those fed diets based on acidulated RPs and DCP; an indication that acidulating the RPs improved phosphorus bio-availability in broiler chickens. There were however; no statistical differences (P ≥ 0.05) among treatments in calcium and phosphorus contents in both tibia bones and blood serum.

Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by an extreme sensitivity to UV rays from sunlight, a high incidence of skin cancer and occasional neurological symptoms. XP, primarily defined as a DNA repair syndrome, has been found associated with defects in the Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER) pathway, and more recently by transcriptional deregulation. XP results from mutations in eight genes (XPA to XPG and XPV) coding for proteins involved in NER.

Liquid Biopsy in Advanced Gastric Malignancy and Molecular Targeted Therapy; a Case Report and Update Pertaining Anti HER2-Neu Therapy

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is responsible for the pathogenesis and poor outcomes of several types of cancers, including advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer. Molecular-targeted drugs on the other hand, such as trastuzumab, prolong overall survival and progression-free survival in HER2-positive gastric cancer. The purpose of the case report is to evaluate the impact of delivering trastuzumab in advanced gastric cancer with concomitant HER2 mutation and amplification.
