Case Report: Pyoderma Gangrenosum in IBD Treated with Tofacitinib
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare ulcerating skin disease often presenting as an extra intestinal manifestation of IBD and is
difficult to manage. Treatment options for pyoderma gangrenosum include steroids, calcineurin inhibitors and anti TNF
agents. Here in, we report a case of recurrent Pyoderma gangrenosum with Ulcerative Colitis that was successfully managed
with Tofacintib, a JAK inhibitor
Falsely Low HbA1c Unmasking a Latent HbE Defec
The current case report illustrates role of vigilant laboratory services that helped in unmasking asymptomatic HbE variant in a middle aged known diabetic woman who came as an outdoor patient and on subsequent HbA1c testing was found to have lower value -2.9 %. It triggered extensive workup after looking for common causes and an electrophoresis of
Hemoglobin revealed HbE variant.
Malignant Scalp Tumors: Retrospective Analysis of 1000 Patients.
Background: Limited data on large cohort of patients with malignant tumors of the scalp are available in the literature. The
aim of this study was to review a large cohort of patients with malignant scalp tumors to determine epidemilogy, tumor
characteristics of this region and treatment.
Materials and Method: A retrospective review of patients with malignant scalp tumors diagnosed histopathologically
between 2005 and 2021 was performed. Demographic features and tumor characteristics were analyzed.
Results: A total of 1080 patients (M: F 3,5:1) were treated and followed up for a mean period of 42 months (12-120
months). Age at diagnosis ranged from 12 to 98 years. Most malignant scalp tumors (95,1%) occurred in those 50 years
or older and in bald patients (87%). Basal cell carcinomas (59,2%), squamous cell carcinomas (32,2%) and melanomas
were the most common histologic types. Incidence was highest on the frontal of temporal region (66,1%). Recurrence was
frequently in squamous and basal cell carcinomas but uncommon in melanoma.
Conclusions: Tumors of the scalp accounted about 8,01 % of all skin cancers. Tend to be basal and squamous cell carcinomas, many of which occur in the temporal and frontal region of bald men. The outlook for patients with scalp tumor is
positive, although we suggest excision margins of at least 3-4 mm and continued clinical vigilance is warranted given their
higher recurrence rates.
Erythematous, Hyperkeratotic Papule on the Left Distal Dorsal Aspect of the Middle Finger
Dermatofibroma (DF) is a common benign fibrosing lesion that can be found on any surface of the body, most often in the lower extremities. Dermatofibroma that arises on the digits, as in our present case, may be confused with other clinical entities or even malignant tumors, leading to unnecessarily aggressive treatment. To ensure proper diagnosis and
treatment, dermatofibroma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of digital papules.
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis in Twin Sisters after Ibuprofen Administration. New Insights in Pathogenesis and Literature Review
Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are closely-related, severe, acute life-threatening, drug-induced skin and mucosal disorders with a high mortality rate or long-term damages. These medical conditions are considered a delayed, typeIV hypersensitivity reaction and can be triggered by drugs, infections and malignancies.
Latent Fingerprint on Human Skin: A Silent Diagnosis
Fingerprints are one of the most valuable evidence due to their uniqueness.
Clinical Study on the Efficacy of Vipadikahara Grita Taila on the Treatment of Vipadika Skin Disease
Ayurveda has discussed all skin diseases under the name of Kushtha, and in other words it can be known as “Ayurveda Dermatology”. Eighteen types of these skin diseases are mainly divided into seven types of Maha Kushtha and eleven types of Kshudra Kushtha. Vipadika skin disease is diagnosed with the help of critical and analytical study of the literature in original Sanskrit texts and later clinical trial was carried out. In the present study, efficacy of Vipadikahara grita taila was assessed against Vipadika skin disease.
Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Secondary to Dermatopathic Lymphadenitis
Dermatopathic lymphadenitis (DL) is considered a benign disease, the symptoms of which can be relieved with only anti–histamine. It can be confused with lymphoma. Here, we report a case of DL, which resulted in hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). After adequate treatment, remission was obtained at first; however, recurrence with liver failure occurred six months later, which quickly resulted in death. This particular case has not been reported elsewhere. It reminds us that even benign dermatological problems can
cause life–threatening syndromes, such as, in this case, HLH. The risk needs to be taken seriously in patients presenting with fever, skin problems, and lymphadenopathy.
Impact of Inverted Interrupted Skin Suturing Versus Continous Suturing in Episiotomy on Postpartum Pain in Primigravida
Episiotomy is an incision that is made in perineum at the end of part of second stage of delivery. There are Long term sequels of episiotomy repair. A considerable number of ladies complains from perineal pain and up to twenty percent have long term complications e.g., dyspareunia [1]. The best method for repairing episiotomy is the method that isnot time consuming and lesser materials and causes lesser pain in the immediate and long term periods.
An Infant with Liver, Kidney, Skin and Musculoskeletal Abnormalities
A 21 day-old boy infant was admitted to pediatric intensive care unit with hypotonia, jaundice and abdominal distention. He was born at 37th week of gestation from first cousin Saudi parents via cesarian section with a birth weight of 2200 g. Physical examination revealed the weight, the length was and the head circumference were <3rd percentile. Dysmorphic features included flattened nasal bridge, high arched palate, lax skin and micrognathia. There were generalized hypotonia, hepatomegaly, abdominal distention
and multiple contractures such as radial deviation of the wrist joint (Figure 1).
Dual Fall, One Before and other after A High Voltage Electric Injury-Case Report
Electric injury by high voltage current is an event that has a very high rate of morbidity as well as mortality. Arcing is unique to high voltage electric injury where current is transferred between two points not in contact.
Serum Haptoglobin Responses following Rumenotomy in the Sahel Goat
Fifteen Sahel goats were randomly allocated into three groups A, B and C to evaluate Serum Haptoglobin (Hp) profiles following rumenotomy as markers of surgical stress using Quantitative ELISA.
An Effective Treatment Regimen for Warts in Cattle
The study was aimed to evaluate the potency and for advocation of a homeopathic drug regimen against warts. Sixty six cattle of variable age presented with warts on skin, eyelids, ears, muzzle, udder and external genitals.
Nonparametric estimation of cumulative cause specific reversed hazard rates under masked causes of failure
In the analysis of competing risks data, it is common that the exact cause of failure for certain study subjects is missing. This problem
of missing failure type may be due to inadequacy in the diagnostic mechanism or reluctance to report the exact cause of failure.
Parenteral Nutrition in the Newborn: Associated Disorders and Nutritional Aspects
Severe prematurity at birth is an indicator of additional attention for the multidisciplinary team, since the newborn in this condition did not have the opportunity to develop organic systems under ideal conditions (intrauterine). Several factors may induce premature birth, malformation of organs or metabolic disruptions, however, additional attention has been given to inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) and deficiency/excess of key nutrients.
Characteristic Human Scent Compounds Trapped on Natural and Synthetic Fabrics as analyzed by SPME-GC/MS
The collection of human odor volatiles is of interest to forensic applications as a path to investigate canine scent discriminations in
legal investigations. A study using a selected array of previously identified human odor compounds has been conducted to determine
the retention and release capabilities of five (5) natural and synthetic fabric types, cotton (mercerized fabric and gauze matrix),
polyester, rayon and wool.
