A Case of Frosted-Branch Angiitis Associated with Poststreptococcal Uveitis Syndrome

The case was a 7-year-old girl who had complained of bilateral blurry vision for 1 week. Five weeks earlier, she suffered from a flu-like episode with fever, sore throat, and skin rash, and received an irregular dose of oral amoxicillin for 4 days after a diagnosis of scarlet fever. Our clinical examination revealed bilateral panuveitis with frosted-branch angiitis.

Homology Modelled Structure of Glutaredoxin 2 from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

Different types of Glutaredoxins (GRXs) that play a major role in cellular anti-oxidative reactions have been studied for their structure and function from various organisms. Glutathione (GSH), an anti-oxidant with several medical benefits, binds to GRXs. This work has structurally characterized GRX2 from C. reinhardtii (CrGRX2) using biophysical, molecular modelling, and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) techniques. CrGRX2 adopts the classical GRX-Trx fold consisting of five β-strands surrounded by four α-helices that bind to GSH with moderate strength through a cysteine residue. The residues involved in the interaction closely match with those observed for E. coli and human counterparts, indicating that the cellular GSH-GRXs antioxidant system is highly conserved.

Erythematous, Hyperkeratotic Papule on the Left Distal Dorsal Aspect of the Middle Finger

Dermatofibroma (DF) is a common benign fibrosing lesion that can be found on any surface of the body, most often in the lower extremities. Dermatofibroma that arises on the digits, as in our present case, may be confused with other clinical entities or even malignant tumors, leading to unnecessarily aggressive treatment. To ensure proper diagnosis and treatment, dermatofibroma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of digital papules.

Potential Molecular Players Against to SARS-CoV-2: A Glyco-Perspective

COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 and is associated with the increasing number of cases and deaths and has been declared a pandemic by WHO. The treatment strategy focused on preventing the S protein from binding and penetrating the ACE-2 receptor. In addition, S protein-related molecules such as peptides, blockers, and inhibitors that inhibit S protein cleavage are considered candidate therapeutics.

Evaluation of Paraspinal Muscle Properties in Adolescents with Mild Idiopatic Scoliosis Using Surface EMG Power Spectral Analysis

Previous studies reported that the paraspinal muscles of adolescents with severe idiopathic scoliosis scheduled for surgery contain higher proportion of type Ⅰ fibers on the convex side. However, the muscle properties are unknown in mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the differences among the convex, concave and control sides of the paraspinal muscles in patients with mild AIS and healthy individuals and to help in the treatment of mild AIS patients.

Enterovirus meningitis is one of the commonest viruses causing meningitis in children which is underdiagnosed. The epidemiology of EV infections is not well studied in the Middle East and Arab Gulf Region. No Study was conducted in Oman to explore more about viral meningitis. Review Article: Managing Spinal Cord Injury on Anesthesiologists’ Perspective

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is trauma to the area of the vertebrae resulting in spinal cord lesions resulting in neurological disorders, depending on the location of the spinal nerve damage and the injured nerve tissue. The symptoms of SCI can range from pain and paralysis to incontinence. SCI due to trauma is estimated to occur in 30-40 per million population per year, and about 8,000- 10,000 sufferers each year; generally, occurs in adolescents and young adults. Although the annual incidence of events is relatively low, the cost of care and rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries is very high, at around US $ 53,000 / patient.

Bioequivalence between Two Capsules of Pirfenidonein Healthy Subjects under Fed Condition

Pirfenidone capsules are indicated for the treatment of patients with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The Bioavailability of two formulations containing pirfenidone 267 mg hard gelatin capsules was compared in a bioequivalence study under fed conditions. The study was single dose, randomized, open label, two-period crossover, with Brazilian healthy subjects, males and nonpregnant females.

Recent Developments in Human Odor Detection Technologies

Human odor detection technologies have drawn attention due to the wide possibility of potential applications they open up in areas such as biometrics, criminal investigation and forensics, search for survivors under rubble, and security checkpoint screening. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) has been the most successful and powerful analytical approach developed to date for human odor analysis, and hundreds of human odorants have been identified using this tool.

Characteristic Human Scent Compounds Trapped on Natural and Synthetic Fabrics as analyzed by SPME-GC/MS

The collection of human odor volatiles is of interest to forensic applications as a path to investigate canine scent discriminations in legal investigations. A study using a selected array of previously identified human odor compounds has been conducted to determine the retention and release capabilities of five (5) natural and synthetic fabric types, cotton (mercerized fabric and gauze matrix), polyester, rayon and wool.

Anodic Oxidation of Titanium in Sulphuric Acid and Phosphoric Acid Electrolytes

Anodisation of pure titanium has been carried out in sulphuric and in phosphoric acid solutions at potentials ranging from 50 to 150V. The SEM and AFM morphological analysis indicates that, within this potential range, oxidation in sulphuric acid solution produces better developed mesoporous oxide layers.

Preparation of Large Area Anodic Alumina Membranes and their Application to Thin Film Fuel Cell

The design of an electrochemical reactor for the preparation of self-supported comparatively thin (up to 10 μm) and large area (up to 50 cm2) anodic alumina membranes is described allowing growth of porous alumina at high applied potential (up to 150 V) without burning.
