CPAP Effect in Patients with Hypertension: The Secret of Gods
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a respiratory sleep disorder characterized by episodes of occlusion of the upper respiratory tract, resulting in intermittent chronic hypoxia and sleep fragmentation. Clinical studies have described an association between OSAS and arterial hypertension (SAH), with CPAP being the treatment of choice. The use of CPAP in the treatment of OSAS makes it possible to avoid blocking the passage of air to the lungs. The primary underlying mechanism of hypertension in individuals with OSAS is the activation of the sympathetic nervous system triggered by episodes of apnea. Currently, there are no studies that correlate the use of CPAP and the decrease in the use of antihypertensive agents in patients with OSAS.
Exploring the Hematological Disorders among Normotensive, Prehypertensive and Hypertensive in an Adult Population
To explore the disorders in the hematological index among normotensive, prehypertensive and hypertensive patients and help detect the predictive and preventive factors of hypertension-related complications. A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted from January to December 2018 on a total of 3000 study participants classified as hypertensive (HTN, blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg), prehypertensive (PHTN, blood pressure =120-139/80-89 mmHg), and normotensive (NTN, blood pressure <120/80 mmHg) with 1000 participants in each group. Cross tabulation and Chi-square tests were used for categorical variables. The Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U-test
were used to compare the difference between groups.
Catheter Based Renal Sympathetic Denervation by Segmental Endoluminal Laser Radiation in a Pig Model: Anatomical and Histopathological Results
For renal sympathetic laser denervation (RSLD) we have tested endoluminal, segmental, laser catheter radiation of renal arteries by
using continuous wave 1064nm Nd:YAG laser light. A total of 74 laser impacts at 15 to 20W/15-80 s (4.5 to 30 J/mm²) were applied
in the left (n=34) and the right (n=40) renal artery in 6 anesthetized healthy pigs by using the open irrigated laser catheter RytmoLas®
(CE 0481), introduced via the femoral artery and manipulated under X-ray control towards the renal arteries by means of a steerable
AGILIS sheath.
Comparison of Complications between Gender during Spinal Anesthesia
The side effects of spinal anesthesia have been the focus of many researchers. These complications can affect patients’ satisfaction following surgery and duration of hospitalization. Therefore, factors that lead to increased risk of side effects must be identified, one of these factors is gender. This study evaluated the relationship between gender and adverse effects after spinal anesthesia.
The development and validation of the Factors Affecting Adherence Scale in Greece
Despite hypertension is a major cardiovascular risk factor; only a few patients are adherent to therapy. Therefore, it is essential the acknowledgment of factors affecting adherence. The development and validation of a scale assessing factors affecting patients’ adherence to the therapeutic regimen.
Labetalol in Comparison to Methyl Dopa in Treatment of Gestational Hypertension, A Randomized Trial
To evaluate the value and safety of labetalol in comparison to Alfa methyldopa in treatment of pregnant women with pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). 264 patients with PIH were randomly distributed to take either methyldopa (group 1) labetalol (group 2). or Intake of medications with respect to Age, gravidity, Blood Pressure measurement, albumin in urine measurement Levels, Side Effects, dose of the drug, increasing duration of pregnancy, mode of delivery, Perinatal safety and APGAR scores were studied. The statistical level of significance was taken at P<0.05.
Dual- Energy CT (DECT) Pulmonary Angiography in Acute Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PTE): Causes, Semiology and Potential Diagnostic Pitfalls
ObjectivesThe dual-energy computed tomographic (DECT) technique allows the differentiation of materials with large atomic numbers such as iodine. The basic principle of dual-energy CT is material decomposition based on attenuation differences at different energy levels. The parameters for iodine extraction are a minimum value of – 960 HU, and a maximum of –600 HU. Lung parenchyma with normal perfusion in this attenuation range is presented in orange, and an area of decreased perfusion is visualized as an iodine defect area.
The Prevalence of Obesity among Subjects with Chronic Kidney Disease – Cross Sectional Study of Sri Lanka Population
The burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is growing rapidly around the world, particularly in Asia. Over the last two decades Sri Lanka has experienced an epidemic of CKD, especially in the “Mahaweli” river basin in North Central region of the island that was not attributable to conventional risk factors - hence widely termed “CKD-unknown”.
Septic Shock Secondary to Salmonella Enterica Ssp. Arizonae in an Immunocompetent Albanian Male
Salmonella-associated diarrhea is a common cause of community-acquired gastroenteritis. Some species of salmonella are associated with invasive diseases like meningitis, endocarditis and septicemia.
Hepatic Dysfunction as Presenting Manifestation of Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Hepatic dysfunction is rarely the presenting feature of malignancy, however it is important to recognize early on as the quick institution of chemotherapy could potentially reverse the liver disease.
Early Postnatal Stunting Increases Risk of Hypertension among Young Rural Adults from India- Pune Rural Cohort
As stunting in early postnatal life is prudent in developing countries, investigating its long term effect on adult blood pressure is necessary.
Food Energy Cost of Overweight and Obesity: A Model to Estimate the Amount of Food Expended for Excess Body Weight in a Community
Over-consumption of food energy entails body fat accumulation, overweight, obesity and increased risks of diseases. It is also indirectly associated with poor body condition followed by forced rest periods and limitations of activities and tasks. At community or global level, excess body weight could indirectly influence the environment by advancing food demand and the pressure on food production resources.
A Case Report of Atrial Myxoma presenting with Cardioembolic Stroke and treated with Intravenous Thrombolytic Therapy
Cardiac myxomas are a potential source of emboli to the brain and elsewhere in the vascular tree. Myxomas are the most common benign primary cardiac tumor in adults. The commonest location of cardiac myxomas is in the left atrium followed by the right atrium and the remainder develops in the ventricles and rarely in the heart valves.
Hepatic Angiosarcoma, going but not gone. Lessons from a single centre experience
Hepatic angiosarcoma is a rare tumour that is often difficult to diagnose. Historically, most cases of hepatic angiosarcoma were seen in the setting of industrial epidemics caused by exposure of workers to toxins such as vinyl chloride. Cases associated with recognised exposure to carcinogens have fortunately been extremely rare for the last three or more decades.
Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Arthritic Efficacy and Safety of Purified Shilajit in Moderately Arthritic Dogs
The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of purified Shilajit in moderately arthritic dogs. Ten client-owned dogs in a randomized double-blinded study received either a placebo or Shilajit (500 mg) twice daily for a period of five months. Dogs were evaluated each month for physical condition (body weight, body temperature, heart rate, and respiration rate) and pain associated with arthritis (overall pain, pain from limb manipulation, and pain after physical exertion).
