Long Exposure to CdS-Dextrin Nanoparticles Induces an Immunomodulatory and Anti-Inflammatory Effect in Rats

Male Wistar rats were treated daily and intraperitoneally with CdS-Dextrin nanoparticles (100 μg/kg) during 30, 60, and 90 days. The effect of subacute and chronic administration of CdS-Dextrin nanoparticles on CD4/CD8 subpopulations of thymocytes, spleen-derived T cells, and peripheral blood CD4/CD8/CD3 T cells were analyzed by flow cytometer using a Rat T Lymphocyte Cocktail. An indirect ELISA kit analyzed cytokine Th1/Th2 levels. A DNA content and cell cycle analysis was carried out in bone marrow cells by flow cytometry. We also analyzed the presence of CdS-Dextrin nanoparticles in the thymus and spleen.

Lymphoma Complicating IBD Immunomodulator Therapy: A Reminder to be Vigilant

Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) not responding to steroid treatment should be considered for immunomodulator therapy. The risk of lymphoma in IBD patients treated with immunomodulators is a well-documented but rare complication and remains a subject of controversy. Here, we present two patients treated successfully in outpatient clinics on thiopurine immunomodulators who were admitted within weeks of each other with a diagnosis of lymphoma.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Different Tissues: Immune Status and Activity

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been found in almost all tissues and due to their regenerative properties represent promising tools in cell-based therapy. Role of MSCs in tissue repair is strongly governed by their interplay with immune cells and regulating factors.

Evaluation of The Immunomodulatory In Vivo Activity of Laminaria Hyperborea Fucoidan Relative to Commercial (1,3/1,6)-Β-D-Glucans from Yeast and Mushrooms

A fucoidan with high ester sulfate content (38-40% by weight) has been isolated in a commercial scale process from Laminaria hyperborea harvested from the western coast of Norway. This is the first characterization of a fucoidan from this species of macroalgae. Ultra purified samples with negligible endotoxin levels were evaluated for cytokine expression in cultured human mononuclear cells.

Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Arthritic Efficacy and Safety of Purified Shilajit in Moderately Arthritic Dogs

The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of purified Shilajit in moderately arthritic dogs. Ten client-owned dogs in a randomized double-blinded study received either a placebo or Shilajit (500 mg) twice daily for a period of five months. Dogs were evaluated each month for physical condition (body weight, body temperature, heart rate, and respiration rate) and pain associated with arthritis (overall pain, pain from limb manipulation, and pain after physical exertion).
