Bubonic Plague Outbreak Investigation in the Endemic District of Tsiroanomandidy - Madagascar, October 2014

Plague remains a major public health problem in Madagascar. Faced with reports of plague cases and deaths in Tsiroanomandidy district, we performed an investigation in October 2014.Our aim was to describe the plague outbreak and to improve the national plague control strategies. We used the National plague control program case definition. We identified cases from outpatient registers and collected socio-demographic and clinical information. Plague circulation was determined through a retrospective environmental survey of rodents and vectors.

Serial dilutions were performed with six disinfectants and two antiseptics to study the MIC-dilution (maximal dilution of disinfectant or antiseptic that inhibits each microorganism) and that dilution was contrasted with the antibiograms of each of the 159 bacteria recently isolated from ICU patients.

Epidemiological Characteristics of Infections Associated with Culture Isolated Fusobacterium Nucleatum: A Retrospective Analysis

The pathogenic potential of Fusobacterium nucleatum and its significance in infections has gained new interest. This retrospective study assessed the epidemiology of patients with infections and culture isolated F. nucleatum at two county hospitals in Houston, Texas. Clinical, epidemiological and microbiological data were obtained from the electronic medical record for both Ben Taub General Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital from January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2011.
