Biography

Dr. Ike Okosun is currently working as an Associate Professor for the School of Public Health at Georgia State University (GSU), Atlanta, USA. He received his doctorate from The University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health and has over 25 years of experience in public health. Dr. Okosun is a chronic disease epidemiologist who is an internationally recognized expert in the epidemiology of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. Dr. Okosun’s research in diabetes, hypertension, obesity and insulin resistance syndrome has provided an understanding of the epidemiology of these diseases. His work on the role of abdominal obesity in explaining racial/ethnic variations for cardiovascular diseases has furthered understanding of lipid biology.

Dr. Okosun is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health, The North American Association for the Study of Obesity and the Royal Institute of Public Health and Hygiene. He is a member of the American Academy of Health Behavior and serves on the nutrition consultation team for the CDC Community Guide to Preventive Services. He is also a member of many scientific organizations including, American Public Health Association, Society for Epidemiologic Research, North American Association for the study of Obesity, International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Blacks and the American College of Epidemiology. He published more than 80 articles in various national and international journals
