Biography

Dr. Bassam R. Ali is the professor of Molecular and Genetic Medicine and the leader of the Genetics and Development Research Priority Group at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University. He obtained his PhD degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge where he was the recipient of Said Foundation scholarship and the UK ORS Award. Subsequently, he worked at University College London and Imperial College London before joining the UAE University as an associate professor in August 2006. He published over 70 original articles in international refereed journals and participated in numerous scientific meetings. 

 

Research Interests

Dr. Bassam R. Ali research is mainly focused on Elucidation of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying human genetic diseases, The identification of disease genes and mutations responsible for rare recessive disorders in Arab populations, The Pharmacogenomics of drug metabolizing enzymes among Emiratis and, The regulation of cellular trafficking in eukaryotic cells.
