Dr. Mingkuan Sun, Ph.D, is a Professor of Neurotoxicology at the School of Public Health, Nanjing Medical University, where he leads innovative research exploring the molecular, cellular, and neural circuit mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders (such as autism spectrum disorder) and neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's disease). His work specifically focuses on how environmental factors (heavy metals, EDCs, persistent pollutants) interact with genetic factors to increase disease risk. Dr. Sun has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles in prominent journals (e.g., Environmental Pollution, Environment International, Translational Neurodegeneration, Acta Neuropathologica) and has made significant contributions to understanding environmental neurotoxicity and neuropathology. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Sun actively contributes to the scientific community as a peer reviewer for multiple international journals and holds membership in several professional societies, including the Society for Neuroscience and the Chinese Neuroscience Society.

The development of polymeric implants for continuous systemic and local delivery of drugs, a technology which has fetched several patents. He is developing novel combinatorial approaches for the treatment of lung and ovarian cancer by testing natural agents and standard chemo drugs using drug-sensitive and drug-resistant cancer cells.

He is also investigating ecology and genetic diversity of Aspergillus section Flavi especially aflatoxin-producing species from soil and other natural habitats. Demonstrated for the first time a phenylpropanoid compound named "Dillapiol" isolated from Anethum graveolens as the specific inhibitor of the biosynthesis of aflatoxin G group. He is working on the chemical basis of plant–fungal interactions and determining mode of action of antifungal compounds at cellular and molecular levels.
