Dr.  Ronald E. P. Frenkel is a Professor of Ophthalmology on the Voluntary Faculty at the world leading Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and is their only eye doctor on the Treasure Coast. He currently serves as the Director of the East Florida Eye Institute in Stuart and has been rated a Top Doctor by U.S. News and World Report and Castle Connolly.  Dr. Frenkel is the only Treasure Coast-based ophthalmologist to ever receive the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He was honored with an ophthalmology fellowship at Harvard Medical School in 1989 and is known for his expertise in the fields of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataract surgery. His multi-expertise is evidenced by him being the only ophthalmologist in the U.S. to have his work presented this year at both the Retina Society and the American Glaucoma Society.  He has been an instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology in Cataract and Glaucoma Surgery and is certified in laser cataract surgery as well. Dr. Frenkel has spoken at over 100 medical meetings, published over 80 peers reviewed manuscripts/abstracts, and has been a Principal Investigator in numerous Clinical Trials that have brought wonderful new treatments to patients in the fields of Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and post-cataract surgery. His charity work includes giving eye exams through the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, The Eye Care America Project, and working as a member of the Florida Reserve Medical Corp Network.             He mentors and trains eye doctors who serve as fellows in subspecialty retina and glaucoma at East Florida Eye Institute.

Dr. Christophe P. Ribelayga, Ph.D., received his degree in Neuroscience from the University Louis Pasteur (France) in 2000 and followed with postdoctoral training at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA). He was a faculty member in the Department of Neuroscience at The Ohio State University in Columbus (USA) from 2005 to 2009 and moved to his current position in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at The University of Texas in Houston (USA) in 2009. He has also joined the faculty at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston in 2009. Dr. Ribelayga’s laboratory studies the function of circadian clocks in the retina, and in particular the role of circadian clocks as adaptive processes to the predictable changes in ambient light intensity. Dr. Ribelayga was an early proponent of studying circadian clocks in the retina, as retinal clocks represent an important physiological mechanism regulating day and night vision. His more recent work has focused on the circadian clock regulation of photoreceptor electrical coupling and its role in the activity of the rod and cone pathways. Dr. Ribelayga has co-authored several widely cited reviews of the biology and physiological impact of circadian clocks in the vertebrate retina.

Dr. Baha’ Noureddin graduated as a Medical Doctor from the American University of Beirut in 1984. This was followed by a 2 years Residency Training in Internal Medicine. He then went into Ophthalmology Residency for 3 years, then completed 2 years Fellowship Training in Glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology, London, England. Dr. Noureddin is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the American University of Beirut. His scholarly activity includes 50 publications in refereed international journals, and he is a Reviewer for several renowned journals. Dr. Noureddin has been and still is a frequently invited speaker to regional, and international academic meetings.     
Research: Dr. Baha’ Noureddin topics of interest are Medical Treatment in Glaucoma, Perimetry and Psychophysical Testing, New Trabeculoplasty Devices, Laser Cyclodestruction, and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer/Retinal Ganglion Cell Thickness Measurements.
