Dr Jimmy So is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Senior Consultant Surgeon and Director, Upper GI Surgery Service & Center for Obesity Management and Surgery, University Surgical Cluster, National University Hospital (NUH) and Head, Upper GI Tumour Group, National University Cancer Institute of Singapore (NCIS). Dr. So received his surgical training in National University Hospital, Singapore, and underwent a fellowship training in surgical endoscopy at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Dr Jimmy So’s special interests are in gastroesophageal cancer, minimally invasive surgery, GI endoscopy, surgery for obesity and diabetes mellitus. He has published over 85 peer reviewed scientific papers and received many research grants for his research work on these topics. His research work received a Gold award at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Healthcare Group of Singapore in 2008, and Poster of Distinction at Digestive Disease Week, Chicago, 2010. He was invited to give lectures at scientific meetings of International Gastric Cancer Association (IGCA), Japanese Gastric Cancer Association (JGCA), Korean Gastric Cancer Association, and, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgery. He served as editor for Journal of Gastric Cancer, and peer reviewer for many journals including British Journal of Surgery and Surgical Endoscopy. He was the founding chairman of the 1st Asia Pacific Gastroesophageal Cancer Congress in 2006.
