Anaplastic large cell lymphoma with a small cell pattern is a rare T-cell lymphoma. This condition is frequently seen in young patients and should be considered in patients presenting with leucocytosis and constitutional symptoms. We report a case of small cell variant (SCV) of ALCL in a 68 year old man diagnosed by ALK immunohistochemistry (IHC) and cytogenetic analysis. The limitations of using only morphology in diagnosing this rare variant, has also been emphasised.

Anaemia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. While adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART) reduces the incidence of anaemia, non-adherence (defaulting) to ART is associated with a number of haematologic derangements including anaemia. However, the mechanisms and predictors of anaemia have not been examined among ART defaulters in western Kenya. This study, therefore, aimed at evaluating the anaemia prevalence and classification of the anaemia based on haemoglobin (Hb) concentrations and erythrocyte morphology as well as suppression of erythropoiesis in ART-defaulting adults at a comprehensive care clinic in western Kenya.

It was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted in the nine (09) pavilions of Aplahoue District Hospital (Benin). The choice was exhaustive because of the small number of employees. The techniques used for data collection consisted of a survey questionnaire and direct observation when providing health care or services. Comparisons of proportions were made using the chi-square test. To search for associated factors, a univariate analysis of the data by simple linear regression was performed using Fisher’s statistical test with a p value considered significant at a 5% threshold.

Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor, comprising 1% of all tumors and cysts of the jaws. A lot of the patients are asymptomatic and most cases are diagnosed when the swelling is already evident. It is a locally aggressive tumor with a high recurrence rate when conservative surgical treatment is applied (up to 80%). That is why current treatment consists of wide resection of the lesion with safety margins of healthy bone beyond radiographic limits.

In this study the influence of meteorology on indoor and outdoor radon concentrations in four different locations in a Mediterranean country have been studied. Indoor, daily radon concentrations were generally higher (0.2 – 85.0 Bq m-3) than outdoor daily concentrations (0.8 – 3.6 Bq m-3) in all locations studied with the exception of one that was built on pylons, thus reducing infiltration of radon from the ground. Indoor and outdoor meteorological parameters influence both the indoor and outdoor radon concentrations. In particular, outdoor wind speed and relative humidity show a negative correlation with both outdoor and indoor concentrations at all locations. Radon concentrations were also measured at two different levels of a terraced house (a common household type in Malta), in the basement and on ground floor.

Multiple primary parotid gland tumors are rare, accounting for 1.7-5% of all parotid neoplasms, and the occurrence of bilateral parotid gland tumors is even lower (1.3-3.5%). These tumors can be synchronous or metachronous and the most common histologic type of bilateral parotid gland tumors is Warthin tumor (79.2-90%). Combined benign and malignant lesions and bilateral neoplasms of different histologic types are even less frequently found.
