Biography

Prof. Mohammad Lotfy Hassan is a distinguished Research Professor at the Cellulose and Paper Department and a member of the Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology Group, Center of Excellence for Advanced Sciences, National Research Center (NRC), Dokki, Cairo, Egypt. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry (Excellent Grade, 1987), M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (1992), and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (1998) from the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. His master's research focused on the utilization of indigenous raw materials for newsprint papermaking, while his doctoral work, conducted under joint supervision with the University of Wisconsin–Madison (USA), examined the influence of esterification of bagasse on board properties. Prof. Hassan has served the NRC since 1990, progressing through roles as Research Assistant, Assistant Researcher, Researcher, Assistant Research Professor, and ultimately Research Professor. He also held leadership as Head of the Cellulose and Paper Department (2016–2022) and contributed as a Research Professor at the Faculty of Nanotechnology, Cairo University (2017–2019). His research interests encompass cellulose chemistry, papermaking, nanomaterials, biopolymer modification, and advanced composites. With decades of academic and scientific contributions, Prof. Hassan continues to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable materials and nanotechnology research in Egypt and beyond.
