The objective of this research was to determine the effect of the administration of meloxicam to newborn dairy calves on physiological and behavioral measures of calf vigor, as well as future health, milk intake and growth. A total of 284 Holstein heifer and bull calves were enrolled at birth from two dairy farms to participate in this randomized double-blind clinical field trial.

Obesity is well associated in various chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hyperinsulinemia, dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis. Thus, for persons with obesity and diabetes, food with low GI are recommended in order to lower the glycemic response.

Mycobacterium chelonae is a fast growing mycobacteria that mainly causes localized cutaneous infections. Disseminated cutaneous infections are quite exclusively seen in immunosuppressed individuals. We present a case of disseminated cutaneous infection in a young diabetic patient.

The use of bio-perfusion as active method of energo-modulation and suspension of PICS expansion, which depends on the elimination of hypo(an)ergic mitochondria performed through a lysosomal clearance (mitophagy) so as to maintain the eu-ergic mitochondria which are able to contribute to the formation of cell energy, and ultimately, to the whole body as macroergic system.

The successful use of zirconia ceramics for the fabrication of tooth-supported restorations has encouraged clinicians to extend its application for implant-supported restorations. CAD/CAM technology in combination with zirconia ceramic has increasingly gained popularity in implant dentistry. Zirconia implants were introduced into dental implantology as an alternative to titanium implants. Zirconia seems to be a suitable implant material because of its opacity, mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and low plaque affinity.

Somatic, inactivating PIGA mutations in haematopoietic stem cells, followed by an unknown autoimmune selection process in favor of the mutated clone, are thought to be important events in the pathogenesis of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). Recently, a second clonal event involving the HMGA2 gene was reported in some PNH cases, and over expression of this gene was postulated to promote proliferation of the mutated clone.

Skin fold thickness prediction equations are widely used for estimating body fat percentage and thereby obesity. Equations to estimate body fat percentage for the Asian Indian population do not yet exist. The main purpose of this study was to develop and validate a new prediction equation for the estimation of body fat percentage in Asian Indian adults using anthropometric measurements (skin folds, circumference, bone breadth) and DEXA.

The water layer adjacent to the hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties of self-assembled monolayer surface plays an important role on formation of densely packed self-assembled monolayers. Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy based study shows that the quality of self-assembled monolayer of thiols is dependent on re-structuring of surrounded water molecules.

Dialysis patients are known to tolerate high potassium due to the chronic hyperkalemia that is inherent in their disease. Despite this, most reports of extremely high potassium (>9 mmol/L) are in the setting of cardiac arrest. We describe the case of a 57-year-old Caucasian male with past medical history significant for end stage renal disease known to be non-adherent to a low potassium diet as well as missed dialysis appointments.

In relation to assisted mammalian reproduction, the goal of cryopreservation is to preserve without significant loss of viability a stock of gametes and/or embryos with a view to thawing those cells for use in in vitro reproduction treatments. There are numerous cryopreservation protocols, which vary in terms of cryoprotectant used, storage temperature, freezing and thawing rates, and the particular cells that they are suitable for preserving.
