An ectopic tooth in a nasal cavity is a rare phenomenon. In most cases, no etiological explanation of teeth in that location has been suggested or found. We report the case of a 26-year-old man, who discovered, 5 years ago, an induration inside his right nasal pit, which caused an unilateral nasal obstruction, without rhinorrhea, with epistaxis, revealing an ectopic in intra-nasal tooth.

Iatrogenic splenic injury is a known but rare complication of colonoscopic procedures. Our department describes a very interesting case of the same complication that occurred twice on the same patient. The patient had an elective colonoscopy for microcytic anemia and shortly after the endoscopic procedure she developed excessive abdominal pain and had a syncope episode. She gradually became hemodynamically unstable and needed proper resuscitation. An abdominal tomography scan performed which surprisingly demonstrated active intra-abdominal bleeding pointing a ruptured spleen as the source of the hemorrhage. This finding surprised us given the fact that her past surgical history included a previous splenectomy for the same complication 14 years ago.

Male Wistar rats were treated daily and intraperitoneally with CdS-Dextrin nanoparticles (100 μg/kg) during 30, 60, and 90 days. The effect of subacute and chronic administration of CdS-Dextrin nanoparticles on CD4/CD8 subpopulations of thymocytes, spleen-derived T cells, and peripheral blood CD4/CD8/CD3 T cells were analyzed by flow cytometer using a Rat T Lymphocyte Cocktail. An indirect ELISA kit analyzed cytokine Th1/Th2 levels. A DNA content and cell cycle analysis was carried out in bone marrow cells by flow cytometry. We also analyzed the presence of CdS-Dextrin nanoparticles in the thymus and spleen.

The articular cartilage overlying the bone consists of a network of collagen fibres. This network is essential to cartilage integrity, usually suffering damage in degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis. We have been applying a number of techniques to study the bone-cartilage interface and of changes occurring in this with disease. The bone-cartilage samples with disease were investigated for their structural, elemental and molecular properties. The bone-cartilage samples with disease were characterized by scanning electron microscopy- energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Fourier transform (FT) Raman spectroscopy.

Objective: To evaluate the functional mobility of chronic hemiparesis sufferers who undergo 12 weeks of GPCT. IntroductionMethod: We selected 10 chronic hemiparetic patients, aged 21 or over with a medical referral and one-sided hemiparesis with an injury time of ≥12months, capable of walking with or without help and having the ability to perform walking tests. Interviews to collect personal data were conducted, which were then evaluated by Time up & go (TUG) which recorded the time taken for the patient to stand up from a chair, walk 3 meters, return and sit constituting the initial assessment (AV1) and after 12 weeks of intervention with GPCT the final evaluations were taken (AV2).

Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease characterized by motor plaque dysfunction due to antibodies against post-synaptic membrane proteins. Myasthenic symptoms classically wax and wane and are more intense at the end of the day, although they may be constant in severe pictures. Almost every patient have eyelid ptosis and double vision, and the majority of them also have proximal muscle weakness. Reversible cholinesterase inhibitors are the first-line treatment, but patients who do not achieve symptom control should receive immunosuppressive therapy, whose options include azathioprine, cyclosporine, mycophenolate, intravenous immunoglobulin and thymectomy, with different profiles of efficacy, safety and tolerability.

To report outcomes after vitrectomy with ILM peel for bilateral elevated foveoschisis in a patient with Goldmann-Favre syndrome. Vitrectomy with ILM peel was done for one then the other eye of a 19 year-old patient with bilateral progressive enhanced s-cone syndrome associated elevated macular retinoschesis. Significant anatomical as well as visual improvements were noted in both eyes with regression of the macular edema, flattening of the retinoschesis, and a stable visual outcome thereafter. Despite the Inherent Risks of Surgery, Vitrectomy with ILM Peel may provide a possible surgical treatment option for patients with elevated retinal foveoschisis associated with enhanced S-cone syndrome.

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a serious infectious disease that carries a high mortality rate. We report the case of 74-year-old female who is a chronic hemodialysis patient, and was presented with tricuspid valve endocarditis (TVIE) with central venous catheter, due to an Enterobacter Cloacae, which is a non-HACEK Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) and has been reported to be an extremely rare pathogen of IE. The patient was treated with imipenem and teicoplanin for a four-week period, with negative Blood culture and normal C reactive protein (CRP) levels at the end. The aim of our study is to understand the pathophysiology of the IE in chronic renal failure (CRF) especially at the tricuspid valve (TV), and to determine the clinical, biological characteristics and therapeutic modalities.

We investigated the histopathological changes observed in the brains, organs, and apoptotic changes in the brain of young rats born from rats with torsio uteri that survive. We divided 10 Sprague-Dawley rats with a gestational age of 18-19 days into two groups. The rats in group 1 (i.e., the control group; n=5) were given anesthesia only; the rats in group 2 (study group; n=5) underwent a 360-degree clockwise torsion in their uterus, and the torsion was corrected after 6 hours. The births of the offspring were followed, and 7 female and male offspring 1 month of age were selected in each group. The vaginal openings of the young female offspring were checked to determine the time to reach puberty. The 1-month-old male offspring and the mature young female rats were then decapitated. Tissue samples, including visceral organs, genital organs, and brains, were evaluated by histapathologically; we also investigated apoptosis via the TUNEL method. Although no abortion was observed in any of the pregnant rats in the control group, two abortions were observed in the study group after torsion/detorsion.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of levamisole on the immune enhancement of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) against potential bacterial pathogens, Fish with weight of 98±5 g were randomly distributed into seven groups each at a rate of 20 fish per 300-L aquarium and fed on a diet containing 0.0, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1250 or 1500 mg levamisole/kg diet for eight weeks.

In animal production, antibiotics are used at sub-therapeutic and therapeutic levels for growth promotion and disease prevention. Using antibiotics can result in selecting for drug resistant microorganisms that may spread to humans through consumption of contaminated food. Lately, an increased interest in organic farming, where animals are grown without antibiotics, has been popular amongst the consumers. It is believed that organic farming will reduce antimicrobial resistance in microorganisms. However, the animals grown organically may be prone to diseases, and other microorganisms may thrive in the gut, that may be potentially harmful to humans. We analyzed the DNA of fecal samples of pigs grown under conventional and organic dietary regimens and detected the presence of genes that causes antibiotic resistance.

Streptococcus mutans is a leading cariogenic pathogen of dental caries worldwide. Clinically, eliminating S. mutans from dental biofilms using antibiotics is not practical, because these agents indiscriminately kill other members of the resident flora, leading to ecological disruption and other negative clinical consequences. To develop target-specific antimicrobials, we evaluated several fusion peptides and identified a new peptide HP30 that showed a high selectivity for targeted killing of S. mutans.
