Onset of schizophrenia is often preceded by other symptoms and types of behaviour, usually referred to as prodromal symptoms. Identify the main prodromal symptoms and signs preceding the full blown picture of first episode schizophrenia. This is a cross-section study. 328 Iraqi first episode schizophrenic inpatients admitted to Ibn-Rushed psychiatric mental hospital were examined during the period June, 1st, 2009 to June, 1st, 2011. Diagnosis confirmed through a Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV-TR. List of sociodemographic and clinical data was used. Detailed psychiatric history taking and mental state examination were applied. Supplemental information was obtained from patients and family members.

Background: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in Brugada syndrome (BrS) has been performed both endocardially and epicardially. The substrate in BrS is thus unclear. Objectives: To investigate the functional endocardial substrate and its correlation with clinical, electrophysiological and ECG findings in order to guide an endocardial ablation. Methods: Thirteen patients (38.7±12.3 years old) with spontaneous type 1 ECG BrS pattern, inducible VF with programmed ventricular stimulation (PVS) and syncope without prodromes were enrolled. Before to endocardial mapping the patients underwent flecainide testing with the purpose of measuring the greatest ST-segment elevation for to be correlated with the size and location of substrate in the electro-anatomic map

For the investigation of micromycetes-contaminants in children foods and their toxigenic activity, 173 samples of children foods traded in local markets in al-Hasakah governorate -northeastern Syria- were collected and tested during the period (2011-2012). The tested samples were included in 4 food groups: oily seeds (35 samples), potato & maize chips (53 samples), biscuits (45 samples) and powdered milk & sugars (40 samples).The Sample investigation was undertaken in the plant diseases laboratory in Al-Qamishli Agricultural Research Center. The results of the analysis showed that most of the samples tested were contaminated with fungi in varying degrees ranged between 1× 10² and 5×10⁷ spore / gram of food substance. Only 2.3% of the samples tested exceeded 10⁴ spore / gram of food substance.

The present study evaluated the efficacy and safety of biosimilar infliximab in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis on a stable dose of methotrexate. Subjects were assigned randomly to either study infliximab or reference infliximab product in an approved dose of 3 mg/kg as an intravenous infusion at week 0, followed by similar doses at Weeks 2, 6 and 14. Primary efficacy endpoint was the proportion of subjects achieving ACR20 criteria at week 16 and secondary efficacy assessment included proportion of subjects achieving ACR20, ACR50 and ACR70 at week 16. In the open-label phase, all responders were followed till week 54. The non-responders entered a follow-up phase for immunogenicity and safety for an additional 3 months.

Osteoid osteoma (OO) is a benign bone tumour. In 1935, the jaffe reported it first. The fifty percent of OOs occur in long bones of the lower extremities but it may affect any bone. Only 1 % OOs affects the ribs and surgical excision was reported only in 14 cases in the literature. Complete surgical excision is the standard treatment method for osteoid osteoma is complete surgical excision which is reserved for the patients not responding to conservative treatment. In this report, we present a case of osteoid osteoma of the posterior part of the shaft of the sixth rib affecting a 30-year-old male, who had presented with symptoms of severe pain over the affected area and underwent surgical resection. Excised rib segment showed no osteosclerotic lesion on X-ray so immediately extended resection of the sixth rib was done. Here we have tried to evaluate the importance of the presence of the skeletal scintigraphy or C Arm image intensifier intraoperatively by comparing our experience with the available literature.

Based on theoretical considerations which hypothesize a significant influence of emotions on eating behavior a laboratory experiment was conducted. 127 subjects of both sexes were investigated after the induction of joy or sadness with subsequent presentation of chocolate. Neither gender nor the quality of the emotion had a significant effect on the consumed amount of chocolate, but habitual dietary restraint of the subjects lead to lower intake of the sweet food. The results are discussed with respect to the usefulness of a cognitive control of eating behavior in successful treatment programs for obesity

Selenium (Se) is a trace element present in many foods. Selenium-protein co-factor plays a critical anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory role in thyroid function, but quite recently its ability to prevent adipocyte hypertrophy and adipogenesis has also been evaluated. The aim of our study was to assess whether thyroid function, as well as, body mass index (BMI) and body composition might improve in Se-treated obese patients as compared to those getting placebo (P).

Thus, the government, researchers, and engineers trying to introduce the clay bricks with the value addition of natural agro waste materials. In one way, these materials improve the physical properties of the clay as well as reduce the environmental pollutions. Our aim at this research was to introduce a green environment clay bricks of value-added Groundnut Shell Ash (GSA) as a partial substitution.

Being unified with our feelings, without judging or interpreting them from the outside, enables the feelings to speak for themselves and resolve themselves without interference.

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a rare but severe entity characterized by the triad of acute kidney injury, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. This disease is frequently observed in children after a diarrhea process secondary to Escherichia coli O157: H7. However, other disturbs may generate this disease, including pneumonia secondary to S. pneumoniae, which represents around 5% of all HUS cases. This type of HUS has demonstrated an increase in incidence in the population recently.

This study tested for the effects of generic liposome-encapsulated doxorubicin hydrochloride (generic doxorubicin) compared to reference-pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride (reference doxorubicin) as a treatment for patients afflicted with epithelial ovarian carcinoma whose disease has progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy. Chart-reviews of actual patients enrolled in a community-based NIH trial suggest that both generic and reference liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride (HCl) are equally effective as treatment for ovarian cancer carcinoma.

Topline®, as a 1% “pour-on” solution of fipronil, is produced by MERIAL Company. Fipronil is an acaricide used to control ticks and biting flies of cattle. Dromedaries are regularly infested by ticks. The effectiveness and residual activity of fipronil as a 1% w/w pour-on formulation (Topline®) was studied in a trial on ticks of calves of dromedaries near Nouakchott, Mauritania.

College students are characteristically vulnerable to food insecurity because of the increase in the cost of higher education. Students face competing budget demands that may compromise food dollar allocation. This study explored the experiences of 17 food insecure college students using in-depth semi-structured interviews. Analysis of audiotaped interview data was performed using emergent theme analysis. The participants narrated their experiences with food insecurity, how it affects them and how they cope with food insecurity

By reporting a case series from a referral hospital we aimed to determine the treatment options and outcomes of one of the serious complications of the labour uterine atony refractory to the medical treatment. In this study, a total of 58 postpartum uterine atony cases refractory to uterotonic treatment and managed with intrauterine balloon tamponade, B-Lynch suture, internal iliac artery ligation or hysterectomy was a retrospectively analyzed. Initially, thirty two cases managed with intrauterine Bakri balloon tamponade and six B-Lynch compression sutures alone, in eight cases both procedures were done together. Eight cases managed with internal iliac artery ligation and four hysterectomies. Our success rate with intrauterine Bakri balloon tamponade, B-Lynch compression suture and internal iliac artery ligation were 84.4%, 83.3%, 75% respectively in stopping postpartum haemorrhage regarding uterine atony and the most successfull rate was obtained with the Bakri balloon tamponade in the combination with B-Lynch compression suture 87.5%. The median estimated blood loss was 2018ml, intraoperative median hemoglobin was 5.8 mg/dl and the median amount of blood transfused was five units, the median volume infused into balloon was 285ml; balloon was in place for a median duration of 36 hours. In 6 cases Bakri balloon tamponade with or without B-Lynch compression sutures failed to stop haemorrhage and hysterectomy required. In two patients Asherman’s syndrome and infertility, in two patients’ amenore were developed and uterine prolapse was observed in 2 patients, one of which was uterine necrosis. No maternal mortality was observed.

Purpose: To evaluate the neurobiochemical role(s) of low molecular weight (LMWA) antioxidants in the treatment of surgically- induced ischemic stroke (IS) in wistar rats.Methods: Ischemic stroke was induced in wistar rats using middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Neurological assessments were carried out using stair case, cylinder test and modified neurological severity score (mnss) methods. Low molecular weight antioxidants (vitamins C, E, α-lipoic acid, dimethyl sulfoxide and mannitol) were orally administered to the rats for two weeks in three different doses (22.5, 45 and 67.5 mg/kg).

Varicose veins next to the testicles and the ovaries are associated with oxidative stress, which can change the phenotype of germinating glands, provoking abnormalities in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. This creates an interference that can express itself in the form of gene mutations in patients with cancer and venous thrombosis. In this study, we made it our goal to evaluate the prevalence of ovarian varicose veins and varicocele in patients with cancer and venous thrombosis and to further investigate this association. In order to achieve this objective, 54 patients with cancer and 98 patients in the control group diagnosed with venous thrombosis were included in this study. All of these patients were examined through ultrasound with vascular Doppler as a means to investigate varicocele in men and ovarian varicose veins in women. Out of a total of 14,800 patients, 152 with cancer and venous thrombosis were selected (1.02%). The group with cancer presented a significantly (p = 0.0029) higher proportion of varicose veins (96.3%) next to the germinating glands than the group with venous thrombosis (84.7%).

It has been reported that a large percentage of men and women had experiences of sexual abuse during childhood the effects of which are determined by factors such as age, gender, characteristics of the experience, and cultural aspects, among others. In Mexico, only a limited number of sexual abuse cases are reported to the relevant authorities and even fewer receive adequate care and treatment. This article presents an evaluation of the effectiveness of an individualized cognitive-behavioral treatment involving a group psychoeducational workshop and a workshop for caregivers of two Mexican male children who had experienced sexual abuse. Clinical and cognitive evaluations, pre- and post-test treatment, and follow-up one-and-a-half years later were made. Differences between the two participants were found in all three evaluation periods. Various factors associated with these results are discussed.
