The Impact of Seasonal Changes on Growth Performance, Rumen Fermentation, and Rumen Microbiota Structure of Yaks: An Analysis Using the Supplemented 2.5kg Concentrate Level as an Example
The study investigated the effects of supplementing the same level of concentrate in different seasons on the growth performance,
rumen fermentation, serum biochemical index, and rumen microflora changes in yaks, to provide guidance on accurate
feeding of yaks in cold and warm seasons. 12 healthy yaks weighing (124.21±15.64) kg were selected for the experiment,
with a warm season group from August to October and a Cold season supplemental feeding group from October to December.
The results showed that the mean daily gain was significantly higher in the warm season grazing group than in the cold
season grazing group (p<0.05). Rumen fermentation, serum biochemical index, and rumen microflora changes also varied
significantly between the two groups (p<0.05).
Leptin Receptor Gene Variant Rs1137101 and Ghrelin Gene Variant Rs696217 are Associated with Body Mass Index in Brazilian Population: A Case-Control Study
Introduction: Obesity is a multifactorial condition influenced by environment and genetic factors. Controlling appetite
and satiety involves complex interactions between the hypothalamus, which is responsible for homeostasis regulation
energy, and hormones that regulate appetite including leptin and ghrelin. Leptin plays an important role in the regulation
of food intake and energy expenditure, generating an increase in energy burning and decreasing food intake. And ghrelin
is directly involved in the regulation of short-term energy balance.
Objectives: To verify frequency, biochemical profile and Body Mass Index (BMI) variations according to SNPs in LEPR
and GHRL gene.
Subjects and Methods: 163 both genders subjects were classified into Study Group (SG): 103 subjects with obesity; Control Group (CG): 60 non-obese. Blood samples were collected to perform DNA extraction and biochemical profile analysis. Statistical significance was established at p < 0.05.
Results: The genotype and allele frequency were similar between groups for both polymorphisms. The _/A genotype of
the GHRL rs696217 polymorphism was associated to increased BMI in SG compared CG (p = 0.003) and increased triglycerides (TG) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDLc) values in CG (p < 0, 05). The _/A genotype was also associated
with increased fasting glucose compared to CC genotype only in CG (p = 0.031). Considering the LEPR rs1137101 polymorphism, AA genotype subjects presented higher BMI compared to _/G genotype subjects (p = 0.024). No difference
between biochemical profile variables related to LEPR rs1137101 polymorphism was found.
Conclusion: AA genotypes of the LEPR rs1137101 polymorphism and _/A of the GHRL rs696217 polymorphism suggest
being risk factors for BMI and the latter is associated with fasting glucose, VLDLc and TG variation.
Dietary Supplementation of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles on Growth, Haematological, and Biochemical Parameters of Koi Carp Cyprinus carpio var koi
The present study aimed at the dietary supplementation of zinc oxide nanoparticles on growth, haematological and biochemical parameters of Koi carp. The zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized using UV-VIS, SEM, EDAX, and FTIR. Six feeds were prepared with different quantities of synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (F1 - Control, F2 -20 mg, F3 – 40mg, F4 – 60mg, F5-80mg and F6 – 100mg) and feed ingredients are fish meal, groundnut oilcake, wheat flour, and tapioca flour.
Profile of Newborns with Bone Metabolic Disease in a Neonatal Intensive Therapy Unit
This is a retrospective and documental study with a quantitative approach, performed at the NICU of a reference hospital in Fortaleza, from November 2016 to January 2017, whose sample consisted of 30 medical records. The following variables were analyzed: weight, gestational age (GI), weight / GI adequacy, gender, Apgar score, BDM associated morbidities, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition (NTP), medicines, physiotherapeutic assistance and blood biochemical analysis. The variables were analyzed by Microsoft
Excel® 2016 to obtain absolute and percentage data.
Neurobiochemical Roles of Low Molecular Weight Antioxidants on Oxidative Stress Biomarkers and Severity of Ischemic Stroke in Wistar Rats
Purpose: To evaluate the neurobiochemical role(s) of low molecular weight (LMWA) antioxidants in the treatment of surgically- induced ischemic stroke (IS) in wistar rats.Methods: Ischemic stroke was induced in wistar rats using middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Neurological assessments were carried out using stair case, cylinder test and modified neurological severity score (mnss) methods. Low molecular weight antioxidants (vitamins C, E, α-lipoic acid, dimethyl sulfoxide and mannitol) were orally administered to the rats for two weeks in three different doses (22.5, 45 and 67.5 mg/kg).
Jugular versus Mammary Vein Acid-Base Balance, Blood Gases, Hematobiochemical Profiles and Inflammation Biomarkers in Goats with Acute Mastitis
The objectives of this study was to investigate the acid-base balance, blood gases, hematobiochemical profiles and the inflammation biomarkers fibrinogen, serum amyloid A (SAA) and haptoglobin (Hp) in the mammary and jugular veins of goats with mastitis. Blood samples were collected from the jugular and mammary veins from 26 goats with mastitis and from 10 healthy lactating goats. In diseased goats, the affected quarter had a remarkable degree of swelling, hard and sore to touch; the milk was bloody. In the jugular vein of diseased goats, the values of PCO2, PO2, base excess (BE), HCO3 and TCO2 were significantly lower than in the jugular vein of controls.
