This study aimed to establish a correlation between the dental caries prevalence measured with the DMFT and ICDAS indexes and the rate of fluorine content in drinking water. A national dental caries prevalence data measured with ICDAS and DMFT indexes at several thresholds were correlated with the fluoride content of drinking water in several regions of Senegal. The dental caries prevalence was calculated based, distinctively, on the DMFT and ICDAS criteria. The variation of the rate of fluorine content in the drinking water of different regions was calculated according to the WHO reference rate. When the DMFT index is used, the dental caries prevalence correlates with the rate of fluor content in drinking water. But, when dental caries prevalence is measured with ICDAS, our results show that the rate of fluorine contained in drinking water does not affect the decayed teeth prevalence.

Inconsistent results of stress induced eating behavior in obesity have been reported. In order to describe the effect of stress on eating behavior in detail, we investigated microstructural aspects of food intake in a controlled laboratory experiment. Eating behavior of 43 obese women and 42 normal weight controls between 18 and 30 years was assessed twice (one time after participating in the Trier Social Stress Test and one time after a control session). A universal eating monitor was used to obtain cumulative intake curves with pudding as laboratory food. Compared to controls, obese showed inhibited eating behavior after stress. The results are interpreted and discussed with regard to restrained eating.

Synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) present a multitude of problems in terms of maintaining up-to-date methods of detection. They are novel psychoactive substances originally synthesized for medical use and research purposes. Abuse has demonstrated a variety of effects ranging from euphoria to aggressive behavior and death. The marketing, similar naming, and described pharmacological interactions create the dangerous and false perception that SCs are similar to, or the same as, tetrahydrocannabinol in cannabis products

Ischemic stroke is the most frequent cause of disability in adults in the world and its treatment remains a challenge. The care management of stroke patients in organized stroke units has improved and various revascularization approaches have emerged during the past decades. Stroke patients cared in organized stroke units are more likely to survive, to return home and to be functional independency. It is recommended that all patients with stroke, regardless of age, should be cared in a stroke unit. Intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator delivered within 4.5 hours after symptom onset is the only approved and effective medical therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Chronic pain is currently treated with several drugs and therapies that can be helpful, but usually do not cure chronic pain. In fact, many drug therapies make the pain worse or are toxic to the patient. Chronic pain treatment frequently involves oral or injected drugs because the perception is that chronic pain comes from an internal source. Chronic pain, and all other forms of pain, should be treated in the skin. Mechanisms of induction of chronic pain will be discussed and skin targets for the treatment and cure of chronic pain will be presented.

A human being is having physical and biological body structure, even though each and every individual is having his own blood group, hair color, retina color, skin complexes, height, breadth etc. that result in his own bodily structure that differentiates with the other individual. After the certain age of subject nearly about twenty years, height or length of his organs or limbs are not increases and fixed bodily structure is built up.

After capybara, paca (Cuniculus paca) is the largest rodent in the neotropical region and the body weight varies from 5 to 10 kg, and may reach up to 14 kg. They are animals that reach sexual maturity at around 10 months of age. The aim of this research is to examine, through radiography, the femur, tibia and fibula of the paca. The animals were anaesthetized for radiographic exams. At 6 months of age, the growth line of the femoral proximal epiphysis ceases to perform its functions. At 12 months of age, there is the closure of the line growth of distal femoral epiphysis. At the paca’s tibia, at 12 months old, there was the closure of the growth of the proximal epiphysis. In the distal epiphysis, the closure of the line growth also occurred at 12 months old. At the paca’s fibula, the bone activity of proximal epiphysis ceases with only 23 months old. The distal fibular epiphysis ends its development with 15 months. There are similarities and differences relative to the closure of the pacas’ epiphysis femur, tibia and fibula comparing with dogs and cats.

This study aimed to determine whether a relationship exists between gingival stimulation and the levels of leptin, ghrelin, insulin and glucose, which are important regulators of energy homeostasis. Blood samples for ghrelin, leptin, glucose and insulin were taken from 15 male volunteers (mean age 25.5±2.3 years; mean body mass index 24.4±2.79 kg/m2), who did not brush their teeth for one day, after a 12 h-long overnight fasting and before standard breakfast (0 min) and thereafter at 30, 60, 120 and 180 min after breakfast. After toothbrushing after dinner and after a 12 h-long overnight fasting, blood samples were taken again before standard breakfast (0 min) and then after at the same time points following tooth brushing.A significant reduction was found in the leptin levels measured at 0, 30, 60, 120 and 180 min after tooth brushing (p < 0.005). The ghrelin levels also declined at these time points but were significant at 0, 30 and 120 min (p < 0.05). Despite the reduced insulin levels at 120 and 180 min after tooth brushing (p < 0.05), no significant change was observed in the glucose levels.

All organisms age, in the search of the universal mechanisms of aging Barja analyzed results obtained with various species of mammals and birds and concluded that only two known factors correlate in the right sense (inversely) with animal longevity in vertebrates: the long life span is associated with (a) low rates of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production, and (b) low degree of fatty acid polyunsaturation of cellular membranes including the mitochondrial ones [Barja (2014) Prog Mol Biol Transl Sci. 127:1-27].

Sexual assault is a social problem faced by every society irrespective of caste, creed or culture. In cases of sexual assault, as soon as the victim files the First Information Report (F.I.R.) she gets the medical examination at nearby government hospital by a gynecologist. But it is seen that due to hesitation, social problems or any kind of relation between the victim and the accused matter is not reported immediately to the police. This hesitation results in the delay of the medical examination and collection of samples like vaginal swabs, breast swabs, nails swab, and other bodily swabs. In such cases, it is noted that the detection of semen and profiling of DNA fails due to daily hygienic chores. In this delayed medical examination case, semen detection and D.N.A.

During daily work practices handlers are most frequently injured by horse kicks, induced by their fear. That is why the establishment of safe working circumstances is of high importance. The main objective of the study was to examine the effect of the Tellington Ttouch® method (TT) on the horse behaviour during hoof care. The TT is a complex of circular hand movements made over various parts of horse’s body to enhance trust, and improve health and performance. Within the experiment a group trial and a case study were carried out. Six Lipizzan horses were included in the group trial, which lasted for 2 weeks. In the 1st week, customary method was used and in the 2nd week the TT was applied. Each time horse’s legs were lifted, the hooves were cleaned, and horse shoeing was simulated. During the hoof care horse’s behaviour was observed and following parameters were measured: time needed for hoof care, number of attempts to withdraw each leg, number of actual leg withdrawals, and heart rate. Horse’s cooperation was assessed by signs expressing aggressive behaviour - optical communication, on a scale of 1 – 5 points. Data were analysed using statistical programme SAS/STAT. Statistically significant differences between methods were estimated for leg withdrawal attempts and optical communication. The case study which lasted for 8 weeks included young problematic horse. The horse was kicking and showing threats toward its new owner when attempt to approach and touch its legs was made. After the first 4 week application of the TT, the horse became relaxed. In the following 4 weeks of continued application of the TT, statistically significant decrease of heart rate and an increase of optical communication assessment were observed. The two-month application of the TT resulted in an improved welfare and increased safety of work conditions.
