This study was conducted to investigate the immunohistochemical localization of ghrelin and IGF-I in the liver and kidney tissues in melatonin-treated rats. Rats were divided into three groups as a control, a sham and a treatment groups. While the treatment group received melatonin (10 mg/kg i.p.) for 3 weeks, only ethanol and saline solution were administered to the sham group. The control group received nothing.

Many clinical cases and literature review have revealed the implant-retained-overdentures (IROs) treatment success and predictability in elderly patients. According to the previous studies IROs treatment in maxillary arch prefer implants connected by a bar, while in mandibular arch the first option is to use un-splinted implants when 2 implants have been inserted. The aim of this clinical case report is to present prosthetic rehabilitation of both maxillary/mandibular arches with IROs. In this report four individual implants retained maxillary overdenture, and two individual implants retained mandibular overdenture were fabricated, due to the lack of sufficient vertical crown height space (CHS) and horizontal space. The patient was followed-up for more than 24 months with no complications.

A mechanism of the long-range effect in the processes of crystal growth through boundary layers based on the study of the nature of the chemical bond between the deposited and surface atoms is proposed. It is shown that the spatial distribution of the probability of finding a negative binding charge (i.e. its density) cannot be considered strictly fixed between the nearest neighboring ion cores.

Ageing is associated with increasing prevalence of chronic and degenerative disease and changes in cardiovascular structure, which may be associated with electrocardiographic abnormalities. Our aim is to assess the prevalence of electrocardiographic abnormalities in elderly primary care patients.

Gaining weight outside of the Institute of Medicine guidelines puts a woman and her foetus at an increased risk. Limited or incorrect information is being provided to women during antenatal care. Research shows that physicians do not perceive this as an important issue. We aimed to assess both physician and patient perspective to weight gain in pregnancy as well as assessing physicians current practice to weight management. 71% of women want to be given a target weight to gain during pregnancy; 87% want to be told if they are gaining an inappropriate amount of weight. 87.5% of physicians believe that weight management is important; 31.2% advise patients about weight gain.

The proposed study was undertaken among 152 male and 155 female participants belonging to one population group of North India within age range 18-60 years. They were examined for extra digital flexion creases on the volar surface of all digits. Palm prints were obtained from both the right and left hand of each individual. The result showed that out of 3070 digits of 307 participants, 46 digits from 23 (16 male and 7 female) participants show the prevalence of extra digital flexion crease either on right or left palm.

The effects of the levonorgestrel-intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) on urinary and sexual functions of women with idiopathic menorrhagia were evaluated using two internationally validated questionnaire forms. Mucormycosis is a rare but invasive and potentially lethal infection caused by ubiquitous fungi of the order Mucorales. The primary mode of infection is inhalation of fungal spores. Rhinocerebral and pulmonary infections are most common, however, other organ systems including the central nervous system can be affected, presumably by occult fungemia. We describe the prolonged treatment course (>1000 days) of a patient with cerebral mucormycosis using liposomal amphotericin B (LAMB). Two different attempts were made to replace LAMB with posaconazole, but each occasion resulted in therapeutic failure. This case represents the longest course of LAMB reported in the literature.

Foreign body ingestion and aspiration commonly affect children. The most vulnerable age is early childhood when children tend to explore new objects with their mouths or by an accident by elder siblings. A 2-year-old female child who is known to have congenital hypotonia, status post laparoscopic fundoplication and gastrostomy tube feeding (G- tube) inserted at age one year. Then she was in stable condition till when presented with acute unexplained drooling of frothy whitish secretions, mild cough and difficulty breathing with hypoxemia. X-ray chest and upper abdomen revealed normal. She underwent flexible bronchoscopy revealed normal and then direct laryngoscopy was extracted a covering plastic of the feeding tube in the upper end cervical oesophagus by Magill forceps technique. Subsequently her symptoms resolved completely. To increase the likelihood of identifying foreign body ingestion and aspiration, healthcare professionals should maintain a high index of suspicion even in children with neuromuscular disorder.

Detailed analysis of dynamic fungal cell wall components is crucial to our understanding of fungal systematics and the biology and physiology of fungal growth. In fungal pathogens this is of particular importance in examining their response to stress. However, current methodologies do not permit fast and accurate or quantitative analysis of cell wall carbohydrate components. Here, we provide a novel method permitting simultaneous quantitative analysis of the major cell wall components of Candida species relying on triple-staining with fluorescent labeling of chitin, β-glucans and mannans.

Routine intraoperative cholangiogram (IOC) during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) helps to confirm biliary anatomy and reduce bile leaks. It also allows identification of common bile duct stones intraoperatively which in selected patients can be cleared transcystically in the same procedure which is much less morbid than through post-operative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Despite this, some surgeons only selectively perform IOC or forgot it all together.

implantIntroductionThe implant technology developed as the all-on-four concept is offered as an alternative to conventional implant applications. In the all-on-four technique, 4 implants are placed in the interforaminal region in the mandible and in the pre-maxillary region in total edentulism cases. This application is based on the placement of two of these implants to the anterior region so as to be perpendicular to the occlusal plane, and on the placement of two implants to the posterior region so as to be inclined 30-45o. These implants are ensured to function by making immediate fixed complete denture over them. The patient is administered with permanent fixed full arch restoration 3 months later. The reduction of surgical procedures and the functioning of immediate dentures are important by means of this system. The purpose of this study is to compile the clinical and research articles regarding the all-on-four implant concept, to determine the basic principles of this concept, and to present the advantages and disadvantages of the method. The all-on-four concept can be an alternative and potential treatment method especially in atrophic edentulous jaws, its routine clinical practices can be performed, but it is necessary to increase long-term clinical controlled studies.

The lycopene is a known bioactive constituent of Lycopersicum esculentum and its application in diabetes is an active area of research. The lycopene has disadvantages such as susceptible to light, heat, and oxidants, which limit its therapeutic applications. In the present investigation, we reported lycopene niosomes formulation which can enhance its anti-diabetic application. The niosome formulation was prepared to preserve lycopene activity.

Tertiary education has always been regarded as highly stressful environment to students. Medical and health science training further add to the already stressful environment. Awareness of the existence of stress in medical students by physicians will help in diminishing student’s experience of stress. Therefore, identifying additional stressors in the clinical context is very crucial for providing measures to minimize students’ stress to a tolerable level and helping them to cope better. And the aim of this study is to assess perceived stress and factors associated with it among Bahir Dar University medical students, North West Ethiopia, 2016.

Patients with Goldenhar syndrome present as difficult airway to the anaesthesiologist due to various craniofacial anomalies like hemifacial microsomia, retrognathia and high arched palate. Also, these patients often undergo repeated surgeries for their various deformities. A, 4 year old female with Goldenhar syndrome and diagnosed as Right microphthalmos was posted for second stage lid reconstruction surgery. Previous anaesthesia records revealed no history of difficult intubation. During second stage, difficult intubation was encountered and eventually patient’s trachea was successfully intubated with C-MAC® D-blade videolaryngoscope.

The potency test for anthrax vaccines has historically involved the challenge of actively or passively immunized laboratory animals with a fully virulent strain of Bacillus anthracis. Lethal challenge studies with the archetypal virulent strains such as B. anthracis Ames strain present considerable difficulties in laboratory management and handling and are too inefficient for the early evaluation of alternative preventative and therapeutic interventions. An ELISA for the evaluation of antibody response to protective antigen (PA) in horses immunized with the Sterne 34F2 strain spore vaccine was developed. The objective of this work was to study the performance of this assay in terms of the guidelines set forth by the International Conference on Harmonics (ICH) and the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) for analytical procedures. We have demonstrated a working range for this assay (73-1581 EU/ml) on the bases of the following parameters: linearity (25 and 1,662 EU/ml, r2 = 0.9988, p < 0.001), accuracy (94.8 - 105.4 %, recovery within the range of 25 and 1,662 EU/ml), precision (≤ 17.6 % CV, repeatability; ≤ 15.7 and ≤ 13.1 % CV, intermediate precision per day and per analyst, respectively), limit of detection (2.25 EU/ml) and limit of quantitation (25 EU/ml). The assay was also demonstrated to be specific for the evaluation of anti-PA IgG antibodies. Based on the assay performance characteristics it was determined that the assay was adequate for use in B. anthracis immunogenicity testing in horses.
