Cognitive Enhancers Derived from Edible Crops

The concept of an effective cognitive boosting nootropic supplement is gaining traction with consumers, neuroscientists and regulators alike and it is therefore unsurprising that scientifically validated Nootropics are highly prized. New research demonstrates edible crops could be useful sources to mine for new nootropics; plant extracts enriched with an array of cognitive enhancing metabolites. There is merit in investigating these plant species. Metadata has identifies consuming specific fruit and vegetables positively affects cognitive function; therefore these same edible crop plants present as opportunities for developing nootropic formulations. This hypothesis is supported by positive data obtained through clinical testing [e.g. extracts of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), herbs from the Genus Salvia, cocoa (Theobroma), tea (Camellia sinensisor) and coffee (Coffea Arabica). This review will discuss clinically tested cognitive enhancers derived from edible crop species and discuss their use alongside other classes of nootropics.

Impact of the Biofield Energy Treated Proprietary Novel Formulation on Memory and Cognition Function in Neuronal Cell

The current study was investigated for the in vitro cognitive effect of the Consciousness Energy Healing (The Trivedi Effect®) Treated novel proprietary test formulation in terms of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition, neuroprotection, and neurite outgrowth assays in two different neuronal cell-lines (SHS-Y5Y and PC-12 Cells). The test formulation divided into two parts; one part was received the Biofield Energy Treatment by Mr. Mahendra Kumar Trivedi and termed as the Biofield Energy Treated sample, while the other part was denoted as the untreated test sample.

Efficacy and Safety of Moxifloxacin-Enhanced versus Standard Sequential Eradication Therapy for Treating Helicobacter pylori Infection among Tobacco Smokers

The therapeutic failure rate of eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is increasing due to bacterial resistance; tobacco smoking can increase such a rate even more. We explored the role of adding moxifloxacin to the standard sequential eradication therapy for Hp in decreasing the therapeutic failure rate among the tobacco smokers.

Improvement of Bilateral Elevated Foveal Retinoschisis Following Sequential Vitrectomy with ILM Peel in a Patient with Enhanced S Cone Syndrome

To report outcomes after vitrectomy with ILM peel for bilateral elevated foveoschisis in a patient with Goldmann-Favre syndrome. Vitrectomy with ILM peel was done for one then the other eye of a 19 year-old patient with bilateral progressive enhanced s-cone syndrome associated elevated macular retinoschesis. Significant anatomical as well as visual improvements were noted in both eyes with regression of the macular edema, flattening of the retinoschesis, and a stable visual outcome thereafter. Despite the Inherent Risks of Surgery, Vitrectomy with ILM Peel may provide a possible surgical treatment option for patients with elevated retinal foveoschisis associated with enhanced S-cone syndrome.

Increased High Mobility Group Protein A2/SMAD3 Relates to Ovarian Cancer Progression

The high mortality associated with ovarian cancer is generally related to the development of drug-resistant disease. HMGA2 protein, a member of the high-mobility group AT-hook (HMGA) family of non-histone chromatin binding factors, is overexpressed in high-grade serous ovarian and tubal carcinomas, though little is known about its contribution to disease progression and drug resistance. We sought to assess whether compositional changes in HMGA2 production were associated with ovarian cancer progression.

Targeted Approach for Prostate Cancer Treatment: Synthesis and Characterization of Docetaxel-Loaded Perfluorocarbon Nanodroplets

The purpose of this study is to synthesize and characterize nanodroplets, loaded with docetaxel for treatment of prostate cancer under MR-guided focused ultrasound. Water insoluble docetaxel encapsulated in nanodroplets is expected to be delivered into tumors with greater efficiency while minimizing drug related systemic toxicities when used in combination with focused ultrasound. The sequence of our studies toward development and characterization of docetaxel-loaded nanodroplets is as follows. First, we developed methods for synthesis of ultrasound-responsive, docetaxel-loaded nanodroplets (Doc-nd) by a solid dispersion technique. Secondly, we characterized Doc-nd by its morphology and size distributions using a dynamic light scattering (DLS) method.

Wet Granulation to Overcome Liquisolid Technique Issues of Poor Flowability and Compactibility: A Study to Enhance Glibenclamide Dissolution

The aim of this study is to apply wet granulation on liquisolid powders to overcome issues of poor powder flowability and compressibility especially with using high viscosity liquid vehicles. Different liquisolid formulations were made using three excipients where the effect of each excipient used in the dissolution of the model hydrophobic drug (Glibenclamide) was evaluated. The Glibenclamide tablets were formulated using PEG 400, Synperonic PE/L44 and Cremophor ELP, at a 10 %w/w in liquid vehicle drug concentration. The carrier (Avicel®PH102) was used followed by colloidal silicon dioxide (coating material) that converted the wet mixture into dry powder. Potato starch, 5%w/w, as a disintegrant was mixed with the mixture manually for 10 minutes and was finalized by adding 0.75% of magnesium stearate as a lubricant.

Reduction of Bitterness and Enhancing Palatability of Cetirizine Oral Liquid Dosage Forms by Cyclodextrins

The aim of this manuscript is to study cyclodextrins (CDs) as a potential excipient to suppress bitterness and enhance palatability of pediatric liquid preparations for Cetirizine, an extremely bitter drug. Natural α, β and γ CDs; and β CD derivatives such as hydroxyl propyl (HP), randomly methylated (RM) and sulfobutyl ether (SBE) β-CDs were screened in different molar ratios of 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 for their inhibition of the extremely bitter taste of Cetirizine using the human gustatory sensation test.
