Linear Support Vector Machine Myoelectric Pattern Recognition Control System Architecture for Transtibial Osteomyoplastic Amputees

The use of surface electromyography (sEMG) signals for clinical diagnosis is well appreciated in the medical field. However, the use of sEMG signals for the control of powered prosthetic limbs is still regarded as a futuristic idea. Past and present studies have focused more on the upper limb (hand) as compared to the lower limb (leg). The challenges associated with the controlling leg movement include designing for both balance and locomotion. After amputation, the muscle orientation and alignments on the residual stump changes as some of the anatomical landmarks are changed during surgical procedure. To achieve locomotion, some amputees, generally from third-world nations, use passive mechanical prosthetic limbs with a fixed ankle.

Impact of the Biofield Energy Treated Proprietary Novel Formulation on Memory and Cognition Function in Neuronal Cell

The current study was investigated for the in vitro cognitive effect of the Consciousness Energy Healing (The Trivedi Effect®) Treated novel proprietary test formulation in terms of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition, neuroprotection, and neurite outgrowth assays in two different neuronal cell-lines (SHS-Y5Y and PC-12 Cells). The test formulation divided into two parts; one part was received the Biofield Energy Treatment by Mr. Mahendra Kumar Trivedi and termed as the Biofield Energy Treated sample, while the other part was denoted as the untreated test sample.

Impaired Driving Associated with the Synthetic Cannabinoid 5F-ADB

Synthetic marijuana compounds are more potent than ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆9-THC) and are known to produce a wide variety of clinical symptoms including cardiac toxicity, seizures, and death. Erratic driving by a 45 y/o male was witnessed in the fall of 2017 and roadside evaluation of the driver by the responding law enforcement officer concluded that the driver was intoxicated. Comprehensive analysis of the cigarettes by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detected the synthetic cannabinoid 5-fluoro-ADB (5F-ADB or 5F-MDMB-PINACA). Validated forensic liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods were used to detect the 5-fluoro ADB metabolite 7 (26.37 ng/mL) in the driver’s blood sample. No other drugs were detected. This case report is one of the first to conclusively show that designer synthetic cannabinoids, commonly referred to as “K2” and “Spice”, can significantly impair driving at relatively low concentrations.

Is Metal Leakage from Aluminum Foil without Adverse Effects? A Study on Ants as Models

Aluminum is a metal largely present in many products used by humans (in vaccines, cosmetics, baby milk and packages for food among others). Such a presence is nowadays debated. Using ants as models, we showed that the presence of aluminum foil in their sugar water has effectively several adverse effects. It increased the ants’ general activity, sugar water consumption, sinuosity of locomotion, and decreased their meat consumption, audacity, tactile perception, cognition, ability in escaping from an enclosure, and their ability in acquiring conditioning, affecting thus their short and middle term memory.

Although the rapid development of forensic speaker recognition technology has been conducted, there are still many problems to be solved. The biggest problem arises when the cases involving disguised voice samples come across for the purpose of examination and identification. Such type of voice samples of anonymous callers are frequently encountered in crimes involving kidnapping, blackmailing, hoax extortion and many more, where the speaker makes a deliberate effort to manipulate their natural voice in order to conceal their identity due to the fear of being caught.
