The Efficiency and Safety of a Resveratrol and Alpha Lipoic Acid Combination in the Prevention of Gestational Diabetes Related Complications: A Retrospective Clinical Trial

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with an increased maternal and fetal risk of complications. Other than lifestyle modifications and diet, little prevention can be done towards this maternal complication. Through a preclinical approach and a retrospective clinical trial, we investigated the effects of maternal supplementation with a nutraceutical composition based on resveratrol (RSV) and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on insulin resistance and GDM status

CCR5 Promoter SNP Genotype in HIV Seropositive Infants on Combination Antiretroviral Therapy in Uganda: Association with Virological Failure

According to the UNAIDS 2022 report, 52% of the HIV positive children between 0-14 years were able to access treatment and of these 68% attain viral suppression. CCR5 promoter genotype specifically single nucleotide polymorphisms have been linked to modulate patient virological status. However, the few studies that have studied the association in infants have utilized allele-specific PCR a genotypic method limited to detecting already known SNPs. By using Sanger sequencing, we explored the association taking into account novel mutations.

The Combination of Shear Wave Elastography and ELF Test in a Single Score Improves the Diagnostic Specificity for Liver Fibrosis Prediction

Forty patients with CHDs who received liver biopsy to stage fibrosis and 12 normal subjects performed also shear wave elastography (SWE) and ELF-test. We chose two different outcomes for histological fibrosis (F0-F1 vs F2-F4) and (F0-F2 vs F3-F4). ELF-test and SWE were independent predictors, categorized using ROC analysis. Two scores called SCORE1 and SCORE2 were devised.

A Novel Neuroprotective and Antioxidative Efficacy of a Unique Combination of Standardized Huperzia serrata, Convolvulus pluricaulis and Celastrus paniculatus Extracts

Physical and environmental stress in conjunction with hectic lifestyle and unhealthy food habits are the major cause of diverse neurodegenerative disorders. Oxidative neuronal injury and acetylcholine deficiency have a major impact on learning and memory retention. Most of the treatment strategies are based on the improvement of cholinergic function in the brain and one of the emerging therapeutic targets is to enhance the acetylcholine level in the brain. Standardized botanical extracts including Huperzia serrata (1% Huperzine A, CogniUp), Convolvulus pluricaulis (SP) and Celastrus paniculatus (JY) have been demonstrated to attenuate brain function by serving as a natural acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor.

Metabolic Effects of an Inositol-Resveratrol Nutraceutical Combination in Non-Diabetic Overweight/Obese Subjects with Altered Glucose Tolerance

Insulin resistance (IR) is almost constistently associated with overweight or obesity in both diabetic and non-diabetic subjects. Nutraceutical compounds improving insulin resistance (IR) may be useful in prevention and treatment of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in metabolic diseases.

Monotherapy versus Combination Therapy for the Treatment of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in Cystic Fibrosis Patients

Infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients is a strong contributor to respiratory failure and associated mortality. Bacteria colonizing a cystic fibrosis lung commonly form biofilms that greatly contribute to increased antibiotic resistance and hypermutability. Antimicrobial treatment in these cases can be either through the use of a single agent (monotherapy) or through a combination of agents (combination therapy).

Predicting Multi-Drug Inhibition Interactions based on Signaling Networks and Single Drug Dose-Response Information

Inhibiting multiple pathways/targets with combination drug therapies is widely used to maximize therapeutic benefit in many diseases. Therapeutic success can often be improved by concurrently and/or sequentially inhibiting multiple pathways/targets by combining drugs with different mechanisms of action.
