Intra-oral radiography is ubiquitous in dentistry and practitioners are increasingly using extra-oral radiography in everyday practice. Practitioners may encounter findings on radiographs that they are unfamiliar with and are unsure of the clinical significance. This retrospective study aimed to ascertain the radiographic presentations which were more likely to prompt these clinicians to seek an opinion from a Dento-maxillofacial radiologist (DMFR) and the most common pathologies referred.

This article describes the procedure we followed in a small rural medical capacity in Greece, to improve a crucial aspect of the everyday clinical practice and adopt a culture of auto-regulation through the procedure of Audit. As Doctors of the Amfiklia Health Center we are often called to leave the office and deal with emergency cases out of the Health Center. It was common ground that the maintenance of the Emergency Bag we use in these cases is neglected. We audited our practice using certain standards, analyzed the findings, recommended regulations, implemented the changes and re-audited our practice. At the end of this project we managed to ensure that the Emergency Bag has almost all of the necessary drugs and consumables which will be in-date. We also managed to improve our practice with regards to the appropriate recording of the Controlled Drugs used during such cases.

Congenital anorchia is an uncommon clinical condition. Etiology and pathogenetic mechanisms are often unknown. Although some patients with anorchia present with ambiguous external genitalia or micropenis, most have a normal phenotype. XY Disorders of Sex Development classifications are numerous and success rate in establishing a precise diagnosis is far lower than in XX karyotype.

The increasing demand for skin care products formulated with metal oxide nanoparticles such as Zinc oxide, Titanium oxide and Copper oxide nanoparticles calls for toxicological safety concerns. Phytochemical assisted synthesis of Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) has been achieved by a simple, one-pot chemical procedure using polyphenol-rich aqueous extract of Solanum torvum L. as a reducing and capping agent.

Chest x-rays (CXR) are frequently used in the diagnosis of pneumonia in pediatrics patient. The lateral projection produces more than double the effective patient dose than the frontal (anterior-posterior (AP)/ posterior-anterior (PA)) projection in CXR series, with potentially little assistance in diagnosing disease.

Over the past twenty-five years, a rupture has emerged between what I will term ‘gynecological purists’ and ‘gynecological futurists’. Members of the orthodox camp (the ‘purists’) maintain the existence of the uterus, the reality of oophorectomy, and, ultimately, the hope that we shall all one day die and be admitted to the RCOG. The futurists reject each of these three claims, offering instead the vision of a bleak universe in which there is no uterus, no possibility of oophorectomy, and nothing on the other side of death. In this paper, I will argue that the purists and the futurists represent two sides of the same coin, though they fail to recognise the fact. While gynecologists have spent the past two-and-a-half decades debating the eternal, I have been constructing a new branch of gynecology which returns to more central questions: how are we to live? Is there such a thing as truth? And, if so, can we know it?

Chlorpyrifos is a hazardous organophosphate pesticide used worldwide thus its biodegradation is need of the time. In the present study 13 bacterial strains were isolated from collected soil samples of different agro climatic regions and out of them one bacterial strain was screened out as potent degrader of Chlorpyrifos on the basis of percentage degradation using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Canavan disease, a genetic and metabolic neurodegenerative disorder, occurs at early ages, causing visual, neurological alterations, and fatal consequences. There is no curative treatment, although lithium citrate is being investigated. This is the first case reported in the Basque region of Spain and it introduces a novel mutation to Europe.

Bruises are due to the blood leaking from vessels into the dermis. They usually occur at sites exposed to trauma, mainly the lower limbs, outer hips and arms. Spontaneous bruising (purpura and ecchymoses) restricted to the face, neck and chest are an exception to the rule.

Inflammatory pseudotumors are lesions characterized by inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrosis. Central nervous system (CNS) inflammatory pseudotumors are much rarer, and generally manifest in the sellar and parasellar regions. We report a patient with an inflammatory pseudotumor in the temporal and occipital lobes treated in our department in 2017, and present a literature review. We discuss the etiology, imaging, pathology, and treatment of intracranial inflammatory pseudotumors.

Diencephalic-mesencephalic junction dysplasia is a rare malformation characterized by a poorly defined junction between the diencephalon and the mesencephalon, associated with a characteristic butterfly-like contour of the midbrain on axial Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sections (butterfly sign). This condition may be variably associated with other brain malformations, including callosal abnormalities and supratentorial developmental hydrocephalus. We report one newborn with third-trimester fetal ultrasound (US) showing ventriculomegaly. After full-term delivery, the baby had microcephaly and generalized hypotonia, and MRI undertaken at age of 5 days, showed features of diencephalic-mesencephalic junction dysplasia (DMJD). The hypothalamic-midbrain fusion and midbrain butterfly sign could have been seen on fetal MRI, thus allowing for the prenatal diagnosis of DMJD, with implications for the surgical management of hydrocephalus and parental counseling.

A kind of alcohol-soluble phosphate adhesive was prepared by using phosphate solution as raw material. A hybrid high temperature and high strength adhesive was prepared by adding phenolic resin. The wetting condition of water-soluble and alcohol-soluble phosphate adhesive on the surface of hydrophobic material, the composition and mechanical properties of the adhesive were analyzed by means of liquid drop shape analyzer (DSA), X-ray diffraction instrument and universal tensile force machine. The results show that the
alcohol-soluble phosphate adhesive has good wetting effect on hydrophobic materials and has excellent high temperature resistance and mechanical properties.
