Spine Osteonecrosis Related to Sickle Cell Disease

Analyze the clinical profile of the spine with osteonecrosis in sickle cell disease. 610 patients were followed-up in this study between 2000 and 2017. 98 osteonecrosis were identified, 48 in the lumbar spine, 40 in the thoracic spine and 10 in both spine segments. We analyzed sex, age, genotype, and pain. Magnetic resonances and radiographs of the spine were performed.

Suicidal Trends in Different Indian States: A Retrospective Study

Suicide is an act to intentionally end one’s life. District level suicide data were obtained from respective police stations for the year 2019-2020. Hanging is reported to be the most common strategy primarily on the grounds that materials for the hanging are easily available, followed by consumption of poison (primarily pesticide), drowning, burning, cut injury to wrist, drug overdose, alcohol overdose and fall from building. Present research showed that as indicated by sex, males are at high risk of committing suicide than that of females. The greatest number of suicide cases are reported for the age group of 31-40 years and the least can be seen in the age group below 10 years.

Unexpected Opioid Responses in Infants: A Retrospective Case Series

Opioids are commonly prescribed for acute pain management. Complications such as nausea, vomiting, itch and constipation are not uncommon. Two unusual and unexpected complications that can arise in the acute setting are opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH) and acute opioid tolerance (AOT). The diagnostic challenges of these two entities are mainly attributed to their unpredictable onset and lack of strict diagnostic criteria. In the pediatric setting, additional confounding factors such as separation anxiety, hunger, thirst and poor verbal communication further complicate discerning between the two phenomena.

Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis in a Middle-Aged Woman: a Case Report

Idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) extremely rarely occurrs in adults according to current literature.We report one case of IPH in a middle-aged woman presenting with extensive central-predominant ground glass opacities and consolidation in the lungs. Since these imaging findings are not specific and can be similar to other diffuse pulmonary diseases, it is essential to have an deep understanding of this disorder. Imaging findings must be combined with clinical laboratory examination to make a diagnosis of IPH. Transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) is the gold standard for evaluation of suspected patients. We review the current literature and provide a recommendation based on discussion.

The Combination of Shear Wave Elastography and ELF Test in a Single Score Improves the Diagnostic Specificity for Liver Fibrosis Prediction

Forty patients with CHDs who received liver biopsy to stage fibrosis and 12 normal subjects performed also shear wave elastography (SWE) and ELF-test. We chose two different outcomes for histological fibrosis (F0-F1 vs F2-F4) and (F0-F2 vs F3-F4). ELF-test and SWE were independent predictors, categorized using ROC analysis. Two scores called SCORE1 and SCORE2 were devised.

Case Reports: Hepatic Sclerosing Hemangioma: A Diagnostic Dilemma!

Haemangiomas are the most common benign incidentally detected hepatic lesions with a prevalence of ~20%. Most of them have typical imaging features and are easily diagnosed on triple phase studies. These are capillary, flash and giant hemangioma. Another subset of haemangiomas are Sclerosing hemangiomas or atypical haemangioma; these are sclerosed, thrombosed and/or hyalinised due to which these are heterogenous and show varied appearance making them difficult to diagnose.

A Case of Frosted-Branch Angiitis Associated with Poststreptococcal Uveitis Syndrome

The case was a 7-year-old girl who had complained of bilateral blurry vision for 1 week. Five weeks earlier, she suffered from a flu-like episode with fever, sore throat, and skin rash, and received an irregular dose of oral amoxicillin for 4 days after a diagnosis of scarlet fever. Our clinical examination revealed bilateral panuveitis with frosted-branch angiitis.

Homology Modelled Structure of Glutaredoxin 2 from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

Different types of Glutaredoxins (GRXs) that play a major role in cellular anti-oxidative reactions have been studied for their structure and function from various organisms. Glutathione (GSH), an anti-oxidant with several medical benefits, binds to GRXs. This work has structurally characterized GRX2 from C. reinhardtii (CrGRX2) using biophysical, molecular modelling, and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) techniques. CrGRX2 adopts the classical GRX-Trx fold consisting of five β-strands surrounded by four α-helices that bind to GSH with moderate strength through a cysteine residue. The residues involved in the interaction closely match with those observed for E. coli and human counterparts, indicating that the cellular GSH-GRXs antioxidant system is highly conserved.

Anodic Porous Alumina Array for Cyanine Fluorophore Cy3 Confinement

Self-organized anodic porous alumina films with hexagonal pore lattice have attracted a considerable attention for biological arrays and confinement of various organic probes dyes in solutions. Anodizing for Design and Function

Two basic reactions occur during the anodizing of aluminum: 1) the aluminum is consumed and 2) an oxide grows. By accepting this statement as true, the anodizing process can be viewed as a corrosion process, and anodizing can be modeled using the Tafel Equation. Anodizing process parameters of electrolyte chemistry and concentration, temperature, aluminum substrate resistance and current density are presented as they relate to the Tafel Equation and how they impact the anodic aluminum oxide structure and properties. Understanding this relationship is consequent in making anodizing an engineering process, one that enables tuning the structure such that it yields distinct characteristics to fulfill design and application requirements.

Characteristic Human Scent Compounds Trapped on Natural and Synthetic Fabrics as analyzed by SPME-GC/MS

Anodic Oxidation of Titanium in Sulphuric Acid and Phosphoric Acid Electrolytes

Anodisation of pure titanium has been carried out in sulphuric and in phosphoric acid solutions at potentials ranging from 50 to 150V. The SEM and AFM morphological analysis indicates that, within this potential range, oxidation in sulphuric acid solution produces better developed mesoporous oxide layers.

Fabrication of Vertical Cu2ZnSnS4 Nanowire Arrays by Two-Step Electroplating Method into Anodic Aluminum Oxide Template

Vertical Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanowire arrays have been synthesized via two-step electroplating method into anodized aluminum oxide template. For deposition of CZTS nanowires, anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) was used as the growth mask for the growth of the nanowires. AAO templates with hole sizes of 70 nm in diameter were used in the experiments.

Synthesis of BaTiO3 Nanowires via Anodic Aluminum Oxide Template Method Assisted by Vacuum-and-Drop Loading

In this paper, we report on the synthesis of BaTiO3 nanowires via the anodic aluminum oxide template method. To fill in the precursors of BaTiO3 into anodic aluminum oxide templates, the vacuum and drop loading method developed in our previous study was used. Ba(CH3COO)2 (barium acetate) and C12H28O4Ti (tetraisopropyl orthotitanate) were used as Ba and Ti sources, respectively. Anodic aluminum oxide membranes with the through-hole diameter of ~200 nm were used as the template for BaTiO3 nanowires.
