Effect of ultrasound on bond strength and penetration of resin and ionomeric cements used for fiberglass post cementation
The objective of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of fiberglass posts (Reforpost ®) cemented with RelyX U200 and RelyX Luting 2, with (A) and without (WA) ultrasonic activation in the root canal of bovine teeth. The penetration of the cements into dentine tubules was also assessed. Methods: Forty bovine incisors were selected and endodontically treated, and then divided into 4 groups (n = 10). Fiberglass posts were cemented with RelyX U200 and RelyX Luting 2
and activated with an ITSMO ultrasound insert in 2 groups; the other two groups received no ultrasonic activation. After 24
hours of cementation, the roots were sectioned into slices of approximately 1 mm each. Confocal microscopy and push-out
test were performed, and all specimens were subjected to 200× magnification optical microscopy for mode of failure evaluation. Statistical analysis was done with three-way ANOVA, followed by the Fisher’s test (α = 0.05)
Investigation of Neuroprotective Effects of Ripasudil in Mechanic Optic Nerve Injury Model
Purpose: We aimed to create mechanic optic nerve injury model in rats and investigate the neuroprotective effects of
ripasudil on retinal ganglion cells.
Study Design: Experimental study
Methods: Mechanic optic nerve injury model was created in the right eyes of male Wistar rats (n=15). Rats were divided
into three groups: glaucoma model with sham treatment (group1) and 20 µM intravitreal ripasudil treatment (group 2)
and 50 µM intravitreal ripasudil treatment (group 3). Treatment was applied intravitreally and rats were sacrificed at the
end of 4 weeks. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), Brn-3a antibody,anti- Iba1 was examined by immunohistochemistry.
Results: The number of Brn-3a positive RGC in the mechanical optic nerve injury model was 5.33 ± 2.08 (min: 3, max: 7)
in sham group, 10.25 ± 2.63 (min: 8, max: 14) in 20 µM group and 16.75 ± 5.43 (min:9, max: 21) in 50 µM group (p <0.05).
GFAP positive RGC counts were recorded as 24.33 ± 2.08 (min: 22, max: 26) in sham group, 16.75 ± 1.70 (min: 15, max:
19) in 20 µM group and 13.00 ± 4.08 (min:10 , max: 19) in 50 µM group (p <0.05). Ripasudil treatment also decreased Iba1
expression in the retina of mechanic optic nerve injury groups. In addition, ripasudil treatment prevented apoptotic cell
death by increasing Bcl-xL protein expression and preserved Tfam protein expression in the retina.
Conclusions: Our experimental study has shown that ripasudil is neuropreotective in mechanical optic nerve injury
model.
A Case of Rheumatoid Arthritis Presenting with A Brain Mass
Among patients with tuberculosis (TB), approximately 1 to 5 percent develop central nervous system (CNS) complications. A tuberculoma is a conglomerate granulomatous focus that develops from coalescing tubercles acquired during disseminated bacillaemia. Radiographically, tuberculomas are discrete, ring- enhancing lesions of the brain surrounded by perilesional edema and may present as single or multiple lesions. The diagnosis of tuberculoma should be suspected in patients with mass lesion of the brain and relevant epidemiologic factors. A definitive diagnosis of tuberculoma is established via needle biopsy of the CNS lesion for histopathology and acid-fast bacilli (AFB) staining and culture.
In this case report, we present a 43-year-old woman with a past medical history of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) managed with steroids and hydroxychloroquine, who attended to us with a two- month history of numbness and paresthesia of her left extremities and recurrent episodic jerks involving the same side. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a large hemorrhagic mass (55 * 40 mm) in right temporo-parietal lobe surrounded by edema and mass effect with small nodule in left peri Rolandic cortex. Following clinical and laboratory clues, MR spectroscopy and brain biopsy, we started with corticosteroids and the following 4 anti-TB drugs: Isoniazid, Rifampin, Pyrazinamide, Ethambutol (HRZE). After 2 months, her symptoms completely resolved and a subsequent MRI scan revealed considerable shrinkage of the right-sided mass and left-sided lesion.
Immunological Analysis of Active Tuberculosis Infection in Children and Adolescents
The latent tuberculosis infection worldwide is determined by about 1.7 billion people. Identification of latent tuberculosis infection and prevention of the development of the disease is one of the highest priority tasks in the global radical reduc- tion of the burden of tuberculosis. The research is devoted to the study of the effectiveness of cellular and humoral anti- gen-specific immunological methods for determining the initial signs of tuberculosis infection activity when examining children and adolescents with a latent form of this infection. Cellular immunological reactions in contrast to the determi- nation of specific antibodies of blood serum using the recombinant specific protein ESAT-6-CFP-10, were not sufficiently effective in differentiating active and latent infections.
Determination of antibodies to the ESAT-6-CFP-10 protein with analysis of the specific activity criterion and determina- tion of an increased concentration of neopterin up to 9 nM/L in blood plasma samples made it possible to reveal signs of tuberculosis infection activity. These results have been confirmed by the results of chest computed tomography of children and adolescents with the determination tuberculosis of intrathoracic lymph nodes or small intrapulmonary (2-5 mm) intrapulmonary foci, including those with signs of calcification.
Solitary Adrenal Metastasis: A Case Report of Aberrant Behavior of Prostate Cancer
A Caucasian male with prostate cancer under androgen deprivation therapy after radiotherapy for
a locally advanced lesion. Positron emission tomography/Computed Tomography revealed an adrenal lesion. The mass
was removed, and histopathological examination showed adenocarcinoma of prostatic origin. Prostate-specific antigen
decreased dramatically after adrenalectomy
Disseminated Blastomycosis: A Case Report
Blastomycosis is known for its propensity to mimic other illnesses, which often leads to incorrect or delayed treatment. Here we present a case report of a patient working in Wisconsin who was misdiagnosed as Tuberculosis since he was an Indian. The patient was not evaluated on endemic grounds for Blastomyces where he was working for couple of years. After he developed skin lesions along with increased shortness of breath, lesions were evaluated which showed large yeast cells resembling Blastomyces. The treating pulmonologist evaluated his occupational history and was revealed with endemicity for Blastomyces.
The Clinical, Bacteriological and Therapeutic Characteristics of Tuberculosis in Patients Infected with HIV (about 42 Cases)
Tuberculosis still remains a public health priority, especially with the emergence of HIV. It is more and more revealing of the HIV infection. The objective of this study is to analyze the clinical, epidemiological, and therapeutic aspect of tuberculosis in patients infected with HIV.

Evaluation of Paraspinal Muscle Properties in Adolescents with Mild Idiopatic Scoliosis Using Surface EMG Power Spectral Analysis
Previous studies reported that the paraspinal muscles of adolescents with severe idiopathic scoliosis scheduled for surgery
contain higher proportion of type Ⅰ fibers on the convex side. However, the muscle properties are unknown in mild adolescent idiopathic
scoliosis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the differences among the convex, concave and control sides of the paraspinal muscles
in patients with mild AIS and healthy individuals and to help in the treatment of mild AIS patients.
Comparison of Balance Coefficient Methods in Efficient Fractional Factorial Design Using Generalized Minimum Aberration (GMA) and Minimum Moment Aberration (MMA)
Efficient orthogonal arrays with three factors having two, three and four levels were constructed with balance and orthogonal property
for lowest common multiples of runs. The two forms of balance coefficient were used for classifying the designs into two; and minimum
aberration criteria were used to determine designs with less aberration. The designs constructed using the maximum form of balance
coefficient has the less aberration in both the Generalized Minimum Aberration and Minimum Moment Aberration criteria.
Characteristic Human Scent Compounds Trapped on Natural and Synthetic Fabrics as analyzed by SPME-GC/MS
The collection of human odor volatiles is of interest to forensic applications as a path to investigate canine scent discriminations in
legal investigations. A study using a selected array of previously identified human odor compounds has been conducted to determine
the retention and release capabilities of five (5) natural and synthetic fabric types, cotton (mercerized fabric and gauze matrix),
polyester, rayon and wool.
