The purpose of this study is to look at the capacity of psychopaths to act in a rational manner within the meaning of section 16 of the
Canadian Criminal Code. We therefore focus on certain neuroscientific studies in order to see whether they can inform us about the
disorders that psychopaths suffer from, and whether those disorders could have an impact on their ability to act rationally. If they do, then
psychopathy could be an ailment that triggers the section 16 defence of not criminally responsible owing to a mental disorder and also the
implications of the Supreme Court of Canada decision in Bouchard-Lebrun.

Wilkie’s Syndrome (WS) was described in 1927 and its physiopathology is related to the formation of an abnormal acute aortomesenteric angle measuring between 7o and 22o. It leads to digestive symptoms due to external compression of mesentery artery against the third portion of duodenum. This is a case of WS in a young, tall and slim male patient. Three months before, he began postprandial vomiting, abdominal pain, hyporexia and weight loss. The diagnostis was made by an upper gastrointestinal series with barium contrast and confirmed by Laparotomy. Duodenojejunostomy is a well-known technique and it was successfully performed in this case.

Investigate the use of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in cancer patients with heart failure (HF); assess factors associated with ischemic and non-ischemic HF.
Many newer cancer therapies are cardiotoxic; thus, the incidence of HF has been increasing in this high-risk patient population. CRT has beneficial effects on morbidity, mortality, and left ventricular function in patients with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, yet cancer patients and survivors who develop severe HF and are eligible for CRT often does not receive it.

The aim of this study was to analyze the delayed diagnosis and evolution of HIV infection in predominantly sub-Saharan immigrants compared to other patients in a hospital in Madrid between 2004 and 2013. We retrospectively analyzed new HIV diagnoses. Late presentation or advanced disease were considered the presence of CD4 lymphocyte counts less than 350 or 200 cells/µl at diagnosis, respectively, or an AIDS-defining disease regardless of the CD4 count. Patients were compared according to their origin and sex.

Sarcomas of a breast are rare tumors. Primary mammary liposarcomas are rarer still. The peak incidence of breast liposarcomas in adults occur between 4th and 6th decades. We report a case of primary breast pleomorphic liposarcoma in a 70 years old female patient. FNAC of the tumor was non-specific. However, histopathological along with immunohistochemical studies clinched the diagnosis.

Self-immolation is most commonly observed in the Middle East and Western Asia. It is far less common in the Western world. Documented
cases in the West indicate that victims are more likely to be immigrants, indicating that there may be cultural influences that motivate this
behavior. We have performed a literature review on self-immolation in order to better understand the cultural differences behind selfimmolation
and the psychopathology related to this specific behaviour.

Stature of an individual has an important role in identification, which is often required in medico-legal practice. The estimation of stature
is an important step in the identification of dismembered remains or when only a part of a skeleton is only available as in major disasters
or with mutilation. There is no published data on anthropological data among Jordanian population. The present study was designed in
order to find out relationship of stature to some anthropometric measures among a sample of Jordanian population and to determine the
most accurate and reliable one in predicting the stature of an individual.

Aesthetic restorative efforts in the formation of beautiful smiles are defined and guided by certain universal principles. An understanding
of the science of color and color perception is crucial to success in the ever expanding field of aesthetic restorative dentistry. Just as
the disharmony is created by a discordant note in a symphony, the wrong shades can destroy the result and thus, this necessitates the
thorough knowledge and understanding of the concept of shade selection.

In developed countries, around 3-5% of the people could be identified as chronic complex patients, and they are
increasingly at risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) and cognitive impairment. The main objective of this study was to present the current
findings on the association between AF and cognitive impairment and mortality risk among chronic complex outpatients (CCP).
A multicenter and prospective cohort study of mortality incidence was carried out from 1 January 2013 to 30 September
2016 in a sample of 932 adult patients registered as CCP. To predict hazard ratios, mean survival time, and survival probabilities, a
multivariate Cox regression was used.

The quadrivalent virus-like particle vaccine against human papillomavirus (QHPV) is a population vaccine targeting peri-pubertal girls and boys. Focus on evaluation of adolescent ovarian safety arises from cases in primary care and published case series describing the development of menstrual dysfunction and idiopathic premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) following QHPV vaccination. A structured review of QHPV vaccine safety studies was performed to answer the question ‘has the ongoing ovarian safety of this vaccine in adolescents been assessed?’ The design, size, and process of pre-licensing safety trials in relation to their capacity to assess ovarian function were reviewed.

Chronic pain is a pandemic that has spawned the disproportionate opioid epidemic of overuse and overprescription in the United States. This challenge warrants review of physician education and curriculum to become more effective in pain management. Our current system for educating present and future physicians, as well as pain specialists, is flawed in a number of ways. The vast majority of physicians will encounter and manage chronic pain patients during their careers, but reviews have demonstrated dissatisfaction among medical students and practitioners with pain education and curriculum.

Ample research has examind the impact of autism for children and families, but less has addressed the effects of this condition for
adults. The literature indicates that adults on the autism spectrum suffer from depression and have a heightened risk of suicidal
ideation because of their social skills deficits [1]. Research also shows that individuals with high-functioning autism (HFA) can benefit
from participating in support groups. In addition, research indicates that use of the term “neurodiversity” rather than other diagnostic
labels encourages increased self-esteem to persons on the autism spectrum. This grounded theory study sought to understand the
belief of clinicians with regard to the incorporation of the concept of neurodiversity in support groups for adults with HFA [2].

It is still contentious whether amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)-Alzheimer’s disease (AD) cases comprise a combined disease or
represent a coincidental association. We describe the case of a 78-year-old white male with a 12-month history of bulbar muscle
weakness and mild cognitive impairment. Hallmarks of AD pathology were present and associated with diffuse congophilic
angiopathy. The motor cortex did not show a loss of motoneurons. The anterior horns of the medulla oblongata and hypoglossal nuclei
showed skein-like cytoplasmic inclusions and ubiquitin and TDP43 phosphate positive staining. No signs of FTLD were detected. The
pathological results suggest that, in this case, ALS and AD pathology appeared to be independent.

Bovine respiratory disease complex remains one of the most economically important diseases of stocker cattle. Reports of myocardial
injury associated with BRDC have been limited to necropsy findings. An animal-side diagnostic test for cardiac troponin I (cTnI)
has been validated for use in cattle. The objective of this study was to determine the association of blood concentration of cTnI and
pneumonia in stocker cattle. A proof-of-concept study was conducted using 16 calves (7 healthy; 9 BRDC).

A 55 year-old man with signs and symptoms of severe sepsis was admitted to the emergency department. He is severely obese with a BMI of 80 Kg/ m2 and a medical history of hypertension and arrhythmia. The abdominal pain was non-specific and the physical examination was impaired by obesity. Ultrasonography (US) was ineffective and no computed tomography (CT) scan was available for a patient of his weight. The acute abdomen presented an inflammatory etiology. The patient underwent laparoscopy and severe cholecystitis was diagnosed and treated. The patient recovered well, and remained for 36h in the intensive care unit and 5 days in the surgical ward.

The ‘holy grail’ of being able to assess reliability and truthfulness is investigated one step further via this case study utilising a credibility checklist with a road traffic accident claimant. The possibility of operationalising unreliability in a numerical, or at least, an informed narrative way is explored in this innovative study.

Causes of vitamin B12 deficiency in children include decreased intake, abnormal absorption, and inborn errors of B12 transport and metabolism. Rare causes of abnormal cobalamin absorption include Imerslund-Grasbeck syndrome (IGS) and intrinsic factor deficiency (IFD). IGS and IFD are caused by defects in the genes CUBN, AMN, and GIF. We describe a 2 year old male who presented with severe megaloblastic anemia and methylmalonic acidemia. He was found to have a GIF heterozygous mutation c.79+1G>A associated with congenital gastric intrinsic factor deficiency and a novel variant c.960C>A in trans position.

The objectives of this study was to investigate the acid-base balance, blood gases, hematobiochemical profiles and the inflammation biomarkers fibrinogen, serum amyloid A (SAA) and haptoglobin (Hp) in the mammary and jugular veins of goats with mastitis. Blood samples were collected from the jugular and mammary veins from 26 goats with mastitis and from 10 healthy lactating goats. In diseased goats, the affected quarter had a remarkable degree of swelling, hard and sore to touch; the milk was bloody. In the jugular vein of diseased goats, the values of PCO2, PO2, base excess (BE), HCO3 and TCO2 were significantly lower than in the jugular vein of controls.
