Modeling of InGaAsBi/InGaAs/InP Multi-Quantum Wells Short-Wave Infrared Detectors

We report the theoretical investigation of type-I InGaAsBi/InGaAs superlattice short-wave infrared detector nearly lattice matched to InP substrate such as the quaternary InGaAsBi/InGaAs layer is the absorption region. The used bismuth composition is about 5.5%, the Bi incorporation induced a cut-off wavelength red-shift from 1.6 µm to 3µm at room temperature (RT), and showing a band gap reduction about 362meV.

Eco Safe Assimilation of Plastic Wastes by Microbes and Biodegradable Alternatives: A Review

Lack of degradability and the closing of landfill sites as well as growing water and land pollution problems have led to concern about plastics. In the past few decades, the use of plastics has enormously increased, mostly used for food packaging. Ironically, the most preferred property of plastics – durability – exerts also the major environmental threat. With the excessive use of plastics and increasing pressure being placed on capacities available for plastic waste disposal, the need for biodegradable plastics and biodegradation of plastic wastes has assumed increasing importance in the last few years.

Standardization of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines (IL-1 & TNF-α) and Haematological Biomarker as an Early Assessment of Health Status in Adult Healthy Pigs

The study was aimed to standardize pro-inflammatory cytokines and haematological biomarker level in visually adult healthy swine as an early health check-up scanner. In the present study, total six (6) crossbreed pigs (Yorkshire × Swedish Landrace) with similar age group (3 years) and unisex (male) with average body wt (140 kg) were selected for sampling.

Anthropometric Measures of Obesity to Predict Mortality using Edmonton’s Obesity Staging System, among Young Sudanese Females at Khartoum Locality, Sudan

Obesity is considered a serious health hazard. It predisposes the individual to many disorders, such as diabetes and heart disease, it shortens the life span, and it complicates childbirth and surgery. This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in health centers at Khartoum locality during November 2018- January 2019; aimed to predict mortality among a young female Sudanese population enrolled in health centers.

Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) in Healthy Obese Adults

It was a cross-sectional study including 434 apparently healthy subjects (194 males) divided into two groups: i) obese (BMI ≥ 30 Kg/m²) and ii) non-obese (BMI < 30 Kg/m²). Exclusion criteria were: current smokers, asthma, medicine intake interfering with FeNO levels, and abnormal lung function tests. The FeNO measurements were performed before spirometry. Student t test was performed to compare between the two groups. The Spearman correlation between BMI and FeNO levels was evaluated. The Piecewise linear regression with breakpoint was assessed to define the breakpoint of inflammation related to obesity.

Chemical Constituents of the Fruits of Crataegus dahurica and the Antihyperlipidemic Activity in HepG2 Cells

The fruit of Crataegus dahurica Koehne ex C.K. Schneid is an edible wild fruit and herb for the treatment of various diseases. However, few studies were conducted to search the chemical constituents of the edible herb. In the present study, a new glycoglycerolipid (1), together with ten known compounds, 2-oxo pomolic acid (2), cecropiacic acid (3), nikoenoside (4), garcimangosone D (5), ampelopsisionoside (6), saussureosides B (7), 6-O-[(2E, 6S)-2, 6-dimethyl-6-hydroxy-2, 7-octadienoyl]-α-D-glucopyranoside (8), 6-O-[(2E, 6S)-2, 6-dimethyl6-hydroxy-2, 7-octadienoyl]-β-D-glucopyranoside (9), betulalbuside A (10), quercetin (11), were isolated from the fruits of C. dahurica with various chromatographic techniques.

Clinical Stabilization of a Patient with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Due to Comprehensive Management

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in paralysis, inevitably, death. We herein report a case of a 67-year-old woman diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for one year presented with type II respiratory failure who has been under comprehensive management and kept using Non-Invasive Ventilator (NIV) for more than four months in a stable condition. In this report, we try to discuss the multidisciplinary approach to optimize the functioning of the patients and to care the patients with ALS in order to improve their quality of life (QOL).

Development of novel cryopreservation protocols is required to test novel chemical and non-chemical supplements in freezing extender for bee semen. Antioxidants demonstrate critical effects on post-thawed sperm quality, fertility, and subsequent embryo development. The purpose of the study was to determine of the effects of different concentrations of proline, cysteine and glutamine on some sperm quality and fertility of cryopreserved bee spermatozoa.

Effect of the Seasons on the Change of Morphological, Histo-Cytological and Hormonal Parameters of the Thyroid Gland in Cattle in Algeria

This study was carried out to study the peculiarities of the topography, the macrostructure and the analysis of the structural and functional organization patterns of the parenchyma of the thyroid gland of dairy cows (local breed from the Souk Ahras region, Algeria). A complex of macroscopic and histological techniques was used, as well as immunohistochemical staining of thyroid gland sections to identify localization characteristics of thyrocyte populations in the parenchyma.

Anodizing for Design and Function

Two basic reactions occur during the anodizing of aluminum: 1) the aluminum is consumed and 2) an oxide grows. By accepting this statement as true, the anodizing process can be viewed as a corrosion process, and anodizing can be modeled using the Tafel Equation. Anodizing process parameters of electrolyte chemistry and concentration, temperature, aluminum substrate resistance and current density are presented as they relate to the Tafel Equation and how they impact the anodic aluminum oxide structure and properties. Understanding this relationship is consequent in making anodizing an engineering process, one that enables tuning the structure such that it yields distinct characteristics to fulfill design and application requirements.

Electronic-nose Applications in Forensic Science and for Analysis of Volatile Biomarkers in the Human Breath

The application of electronic-nose (E-nose) technologies in forensic science is a recent new development following a long history of progress in the development of diverse applications in the related biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. Data from forensic analyses must satisfy the needs and requirements of both the scientific and legal communities. The type of data collected from electronic-nose devices provides a means of identifying specific types of information about the chemical nature of evidentiary objects and samples under investigation using aroma signature profiles of complex gaseous mixtures containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from manufactured products and parts of the human body. E-nose analyses also provide useful qualitative information about the physicochemical characteristics and metabolic conditions of human subjects without the need for time-consuming analyses to identify all chemical components in human-derived volatile mixtures.

The collection of human odor volatiles is of interest to forensic applications as a path to investigate canine scent discriminations in legal investigations. The Effects of the Film Thickness and Roughness in the Anodization Process of Very Thin Aluminum Films

The anodization of aluminum foils having micrometer thickness is a common process and results in hexagonally self-ordered alumina membranes. However, anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes fabricated from nanometer-thin films present new challenges to the anodization process, since aluminum films adheres poorly on supporting substrates and the smoothness of the film is highly related to the kind of substrate.

Anodic Oxidation of Titanium in Sulphuric Acid and Phosphoric Acid Electrolytes

Anodisation of pure titanium has been carried out in sulphuric and in phosphoric acid solutions at potentials ranging from 50 to 150V. The SEM and AFM morphological analysis indicates that, within this potential range, oxidation in sulphuric acid solution produces better developed mesoporous oxide layers.

Synthesis of BaTiO3 Nanowires via Anodic Aluminum Oxide Template Method Assisted by Vacuum-and-Drop Loading

In this paper, we report on the synthesis of BaTiO3 nanowires via the anodic aluminum oxide template method. To fill in the precursors of BaTiO3 into anodic aluminum oxide templates, the vacuum and drop loading method developed in our previous study was used. Ba(CH3COO)2 (barium acetate) and C12H28O4Ti (tetraisopropyl orthotitanate) were used as Ba and Ti sources, respectively. Anodic aluminum oxide membranes with the through-hole diameter of ~200 nm were used as the template for BaTiO3 nanowires.
